Struggling

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Since I quit smoking on Feb 1st. I have turned my focus towards getting my diabetes under control. My doctor put me on a daily injection of Victoza almost 2 months ago. I have been trying to eat healthier, be more active, journal, log my food, etc.. Well last Friday, I went back to the doctor, my sugars were lower but still too high and out of the normal range. I was given insulin and took my first dose Friday night.

My older sister, Lou Ann, has been on insulin for over a year and has been able to control her diabetes. Now, here comes my "ah hah" moment. She was helping me be sure I was taking my injections correctly.....well I was not! For the last month and a half, I was not taking the cap off of the needle on my Victoza injection.

LOL, I had to call my doctor Monday morning and am now just on Victoza again and my blood sugars have already dropped in just 4 days from the 300s to an average of 150. I had also gained about 7 lbs and have already dropped 4 of those since last Friday. Asking our Lord to give me the strength to win this battle over the control of my diabetes.

I guess it's true, we all live and learn!

61 days cigarette free!!

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

Amazing how much more I can smell in this world. Aromas I have missed for years are coming back. LOL, of course, some I would prefer not to experience. I went back for a followup with my lung doctor and for the first time in over a year, my bloodwork came back in the normal range. Praise God!!

33 days now cigarette free!!

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

I have had a few hard days but I am pleasantly surprised with how easy it has been not to cheat. The first few weeks I know I was in withdrawal but now I am no longer feeling it. Just keeping busy has helped. I have gained 3 lbs in the past month so I know we have some work to do going forward. Thanks for all of the encouragement Spark friends! emoticon

I quit 8 years ago, hardest thing I've ever done; definately worth it. Start thinking of yourself as a non smoker; that's what you are now; a non smoker! Congrats! emoticon

Determined

Friday, February 01, 2013

I have been a member of Spark People one year and have learned so much just from reading! I love the recipes and have used many of the menu suggestions. Using a similar plan of action, I have quit smoking!! With my good Lord's help, 2013 will be my year to get back to a healthier lifestyle. I want to thank all of the members that have challenged me and are there to support me. By mid year, I hope to have lost 20 more lbs. Once that is met, losing an additional 15 more lbs by years end is my next goal!! I love the before and after pictures many members have posted and I would like to be able to do the same!

Update...day 4, still smoke free!! Yesterday was a little rough when my hubby, daughter, and son in law went out to the garage several times during the super bowl, but I made it through..thinking about starting a special jar to put $5.00 a week in it. I know I was smoking at least a pack and 1/2 a week. In a year, I would have $125...enough for a splurge like new outfit!! emoticon
