Stuck

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

My weigh scale is stuck. I am walking, more then ever now, I am staying within my calorie range diligently, and nothing budges. In fact I get a lot more vigorous exercise in than when I started to lose weight and then my weight was just melting off. I am not sure how to get the crazy spinning gadget to move.

On the plus side, I am so determined that this weigh scale has to move that I am getting a lot more toned.

If anyone reads this blog...give me your ideas, please.

NEVER THINK THE SCALE IS THE ONLY WAY TO MEASURE HOW MUCH YOUR LOSING........ WALKING MORE IS PROBABLY HELPING YOU TO LOSE INCHES....... GAINING MUSCLE AND LOSING FAT..... MUSCLE WEIGHS MORE THAN FAT.. SO YOUR TONING UP.. SOME PEOPLE AT THE BEGINNING LOSE A BUNCH OF WEIGHT THEN IT STOPS.... THAT HAPPENED TO ME... SOME TIMES WALKING ISN'T ENOUGH AFTER YOU'VE LOST SOME WEIGHT... SO YOU MIGHT NEED TO THINK ABOUT SOME WEIGHT TRAINING ALONG WITH YOUR WALKING......

A TEAM

Tuesday, November 01, 2011

BACK IN JANUARY OR SO I JOINED SPARK PEOPLE. I JOINED THE TEAM FOR DISABLED PEOPLE BECAUSE IT SEEMED TO FIT WHAT I WAS DEALING WITH AT THE MOMENT. I HAD A LOT OF PAIN PARTICULARLY IF I TRIED TO GET ACTIVE. I WAS REALLY STRUGGLING WITH MY WEIGHT AS WELL. I KNEW THAT THIS TEAM WAS ONE I REALLY WOULD ENJOY.

SURE ENOUGH I RIGHT. I HAVE GOTTEN TO REALLY KNOW THESE TEAM MEMBERS, WE HAVE BECOME CLOSE FRIENDS.

BUT NOW I FEEL GUILTY. MY PROBLEM, I CAN HARDLY CALL MYSELF DISABLED ANY MORE. I STILL OCCASIONALLY DEAL WITH PAIN, BUT A LOT LESS THAN I USED TOO. HERE I AM DISCUSSING THINGS WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO USE WHEELCHAIRS AND I DON'T NEED TO. IT ALMOST MAKES ME ASHAMED TO SAY THAT I HAVE A DISABILITY AT ALL WHEN MOST OF MY TEAM MEMBERS ARE A LOT WORSE OFF THAN ME....BUT I WANT TO KEEP UP THE RELATIONSHIPS I HAVE FORMED.

I WOULDN'T BLAME YOU ALL IF YOU FELT LIKE I SHOULD MOVE ALONG, SO NOW I AM GOING TO BEG. PLEASE DON'T DROP ME BECAUSE I WANT TO STILL BELONG TO THIS TEAM. I LOVE YOU ALL, YOU ARE GREAT FRIENDS TO ME.

OH NO COLLEEN....... PLEASE NEVER FEEL GUILTY ABOUT BEING ON OUR TEAM.... WE ALL HAVE SOME KIND OF DISABILITY... SOME WORSE THEN OTHERS... BUT NOT EVERYONE IS IN A WHEELCHAIR.. OR HAS DAILY PROBLEMS.... WE HAVE MANY WITH HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE... EYE PROBLEMS... DIABETES.. YOU NAME IT.. WE HAVE IT...SO NEVER FEEL THAT YOU HAVE TO LEAVE.. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE FEELING BETTER OR NOT IN SO MUCH PAIN... WE ALL LOVE YOU ON THE CHAT THREAD..... SO BE SURE AND NEVER LEAVE US.... emoticon emoticon

SCENIC FALL DRIVE

Monday, September 26, 2011

IT WAS GRAY AND CLOUDY YESTERDAY MORNING AND WE NEARLY CANCELLED OUR DRIVE. AFTER ALL WE HAVE DONE THIS DRIVE IN ALL SORTS OF BAD WEATHER AND TWO HUNDRED KILOMETERS OF GRAVEL ROAD IS NO FUN WHEN IT IS RAINING. BUT EVERYONE WAS SO DISAPPOINTED THAT TIM AND I RECONSIDERED.

BY 11:30 I HAD A PICNIC LUNCH PACKED AND OFF WE WENT. WE MET UP WITH MY MOM AND DAD, LOANED THEM ONE OF THE BOYS TO GIVE US MORE ROOM, AND HEADED OFF DOWN THE HIGHWAY.

OUR FIRST LEG OF THE JOURNEY IS A GRAVEL ROAD, BUILT FOR THE LOGGING AND OIL INDUSTRY. IT WINDS AND TWISTS, UP HILL AND DOWN INTO DEEP VALLEYS. THERE ARE NO TOWNS ON THIS STRETCH, NO VILLAGES, ONLY RIGS AND A BIT OF FRESHLY LOGGED LAND. THERE ARE A FEW AREAS WHERE THE OIL INDUSTRY HAS BUILT STUFF THAT THEY NEED (COMPRESSOR STATIONS, ETC.) THESE ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT SPOIL AN OTHERWISE UNTOUCHED WILDERNESS.

WE STOP AT A SMALL LAKE CALLED ECONOMY LAKE SO THE BOYS CAN GET OUT AND MESS AROUND, WE LADIES NEED THE OUTHOUSE, AND SET OUT OUR PICNIC LUNCH.

IT IS FUNNY, I PACK ENOUGH FOOD TO FEED A SMALL ARMY AND SO DOES MY MOM. WE END UP WITH A LOT OF LEFTOVERS!!

BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN TO ENJOY THE ENDLESSLY BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. FOR THOSE OF YOU PRIVILEGED ENOUGH TO LIVE WHERE TREES TURN COLOUR; YOU WILL KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO DRIVE OVER HILLS AND THROUGH VALLEYS THAT ARE ALL THE SHADES FROM GREEN TO GOLD. HERE THERE ARE LOTS OF SPRUCE AND PINE THROWN IN FOR CONTRAST TOO. THE SUN CAME OUT AFTER AWHILE ADDING THE GLOWY ASPECT TO EVERYTHING.

WE STOP AT A FEW FAVORITE LOOKOUT POINTS, ONE A SHORT WALK THAT OVERLOOKS A VAST VALLEY, 5-10 MILES ACROSS. THE BOYS DISLODGE STONES AND ROLL THEM DOWN A STEEP CLIFF. I FIND AND PICK SOME SMALL HANDFULS OF WILD BLUEBERRIES. MY MOM DIGS OUT MORE FOOD FOR EVERYONE AND TIM AND MY DAD REFILL THEIR TRAVEL MUGS WITH COFFEE.

BY 4:30 WE HAVE TRAVERSED THE WHOLE 200KMS AND ARE ON A HIGHWAY AGAIN. WE STOP BRIEFLY IN THE MINING TOWN GRANDE CACHE. THIS LITTLE TOWN IS NESTLED IN THE FOOTHILLS ON THE EDGE OF JASPER NATIONAL PARK AND WHERE I WOULD LIKE TO MOVE WHEN WE RETIRE. WE HEAD UP HIGHWAY 40, AND IF IT IS POSSIBLE THE SCENERY IS EVEN MORE GORGEOUS AS WE FOLLOW A RIVER VALLEY QUITE A BIT OF THE WAY.

WE HIT GRANDE PRAIRIE BY 7:00, STOP AT A&W FOR A BITE TO EAT AND THEN HEAD ON HOME.

IT IS DARK WHEN WE GET HOME, THE CHORES STILL NEED TO BE DONE AND TIM NEEDS A NAP. THE DRIVE WAS SO MUCH FUN AND SHOULD BE BECAUSE IT IS THE LAST ONE WE WILL GO ON UNTIL NEXT SPRING.

Oh, some people still take Sunday rides!!! We did that growing up so also took our kids when they were little.
So glad you enjoyed the scenery, the picnic and the drive.
Here in NC trees are still green but in a few weeks we will see some color.
Thanks so much for sharing your "Scenic Ride".

Tongue in Cheek Observations

Friday, August 05, 2011

This morning as I picked raspberries, a hot and tedious job, I came up with a few observations.

#1 I am allergic to work. It makes me feel hot, it makes me tired. Work also makes me sweat. It can change my mood, depending on what it is, picking raspberries, for instance.

#2 I am allergic to dieting. I noticed this allergy first thing this morning when I put on an old pair of jeans. I have been dieting and now the things don't fit. I had to overlap them about 3 inches and pin them with a safety pin so they wouldn't fall off. Luckily I was only going to pick raspberries. I will have to quit this nonsense of not eating too much or I will have to buy a new wardrobe.

#3 The last allergy that I thought about was a major one; exercise. It's been making me thinner! Oh, no, now I have no excuse for being unable to do something because it simply isn't true. Exercise has been forcing me to be more active because I am finding I have no reason to send the kids on errands, I can do them myself. It's been tightening up my muscles, who would want that? I also am getting more work done, pretty soon people will say I am a workaholic.

Oh well, I will just have to learn to live with these allergies!

Defrosting the Freezer

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

I am defrosting my freezer so while I wait for those large chunks of ice to come loose from the freezer walls I will blog.
I walked a mile or more this morning, using my walking sticks some of the way! YES!
I planned a little splurge this morning, two tablespoons of fresh cream in my coffee. A WONDERFUL PLAN!
I drank a couple of glasses of water
I ate a very healthy lunch, 1/2 c pasta, 1/2 c black beans, 1/4 c no fat sour cream and a huge dollop of salsa. A big handful of strawberries and a little no fat cream cheese with some stewed rhubarb. MMMmmm
I had a nap although I am not sure if I actually slept. FELT GOOD THOUGH!
I even resisted a treat because I knew I was not hungry.
MY DAY IS GOING GREAT
