Third time's a charm!!

Monday, March 08, 2010

OK, so my last blog entry was about how proud I was of sticking with the Couch to 5K plan... I was in the 5th week. I really did a good job back then and I really enjoyed my time running and making what I felt was a great accomplishment... but after being just 3 weeks from finishing the programI fell off the wagon anyway...

So here I go again. I'm only in the second week so I have a long way to go and it really feels like I'm starting all over again, which makes sense because there were 6 very fattening months between... but I'm motivated again. I'm not going to let anything get in my way this time - I'm so slow running and the program is designed for 10 minute miles, but once I get the 3 miles in I'll work on the speed part of it...

I'm really going to do it this time!!!

Emotional roller coaster...

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

I am so proud of myself for sticking with the couch to 5k plan this time. This is my second attempt and I'm almost done with the 5th week, so I really have done much better at staying motivated. And I love it... those were the beginning of my thoughts during tonight's workout...

Then it switched to the timeclock (which I have to carry because it's a big part of the plan) and the fact that it takes me 13 - 14 minutes to run a mile. It's supposed to take around 10. I know that I'm new to this and I know that I'm working on it, but knowing that the end of week 9 assumes that you will be running 3 miles in 30 minutes is starting to be discouraging... it seems like a very small thing now that I'm typing it... which is part of the reason I wanted to post this blog in the first place. My second theory is that I might surprise myself and actually accomplish 3 miles in around 30 minutes in the upcoming weeks.

I guess another thing that has be discouraged is that I really haven't lost any weight. Since I really started working on my weight in April, I have only lost 17 lbs. Only 7 of it has been from my workouts - the first 10 was from switching to diet drinks and slacking on the social drinking. I just thought that I would see better results. I think I look much better until I see a picture of myself, but my clothes have started to wear better.

Regardless of the negative aspects, I really enjoy my time at the track and I love accomplishing something, so I will continue with the plan no matter what. Maybe I will start to notice some change in the upcoming weeks. emoticon

Hey, don't worry too much about your running speed. I've been doing this for a while and I still run at about a 13 min/mile pace. I'm not fast, but I get where I'm going.

Keep going it sounds like you are doing better then you think. I know when I lost some weight I didn't notice it but the people around me did so don't let it get you down just keep on going

So Discouraged

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I am so discouraged today. I thought that I would lose a few pounds quickly when I first started and then plateau, but that hasn't been what has happened at all.

I've gone from drinking a 2-liter of Mtn. Dew a day to drinking 64+oz of water.
I've cut out my morning drive to McDonald's for a sausage biscuit.
I've limited the nights that I'm allowed to have alcohol.
I've started excersizing for 1/2 an hour every day.

What do I have to show for it? I've gained .2 lbs. That would be ok if it was one of those "muscle weighs more than fat" things... but my clothes aren't fitting any better so that can't be it... I feel much better and I know that I'm developing good habits, so I'm not ready to give up yet, but if I'm destined to be this size, I'm gonna drink Mtn. Dew!!!

Suggestion: Instead of getting on the scale try keeping a weekly log of your inches. Measure your waist, hip and thigh. Make sure to do this weekly and keep a record. You'll see the inches come off and it'll boost your mood. Consider weighing yourself once a month. Once you start to see inches coming off you'll want to see your weight.
Stick with it ;)
Mtn. Dew has like a zillion empty calories, right? How about drinking Crystal Light Lemon-Lime instead?
Don't give up, we all fall short of our goals sometimes. The trick is to get back on track and don't beat yourself up over it.
Peace

I am sure it is water weight you gained. It takes 2 weeks before you can get discouraged. Don't go back to the soda. It is bad for you and a waste of calories!! Keep it up. Stay away from fast food 100% and track everything you eat. Stay within your calorie and fat intake and excercise 35-60 minutes every other day. You can do it. It is a lifestyle change not a diet!

How long has it been since you started to make changes? It takes a while for your body to get the clue. Are you staying in your calorie range? Is your sodium level out of line? Sometimes I get frustrated with two or three weeks of nothing, and then blammo! I've lost 5 pounds. Keep doing the right things for your body and I promise you will have something to show for it.

I was able to get up this morning and do some of my WF step aerobics before Evan woke up. I forgot to eat breakfast but I was able to finish the banana that Evan didn't want and I had a little grapefruit juice and my mandatory caffiene drink. Now I'm nursing my gallon water bottle. I'm not really hungry but I sure am tired.

I wish that Evan was able to sleep better. He's had this cold for almost a week now so I guess I'm going to have to call the dr.

My legs are SO sore!!!

First Blog Entry

Monday, July 14, 2008

Last Sat my family purchased a Wii Fit. I'm on my 10th day working on the WF and I haven't seen much progress. I had thought with all the changes that I have made that I would see a quick change and then it would plateau, but that hasn't happened at all. I lost about 4 lbs during the week, which I was very proud of, only to gain it back with one meal with company.

I have started working out 1/2 hour every day concentrating on aerobic exercise. I have given up most of my soft drinks and I now carry this HUGE water bottle with me trying to finish about 2 per day. I've limited the number of evenings that I consume alcohol.

That's a lot of changes!! I just thought that I would see more progress. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I feel so much better, but it's really not working.
