Thursday, November 18, 2010

A lot has been going on lately. My sister-in-law has found out she has cancer, my grandma has been in the hospital, i'm wanting to leave my church because of the drama that the preachers family is starting...I know life could be worse but sometimes you just get tired of all the crap...

My grandma wanted to go into the hospital so she can get attention. She was anemic, the doctors gave her some meds to take to help her but she refused to take them. So they put her in the hospital to get some blood. She even told me that she wanted to stay another day just to make sure but they sent her home..

As for the church drama, 3 months ago I posted something on my facebook about that i hate being lied on. Our preachers family told our preacher that I was referring to them..So he is now going after everyone that commented on my status..No names were never mentioned, the church was never mentioned. It was general statements but he thinks its about him. So now he is going to all the other members labling me and the people that replied as trouble makers...I love helping with the youth and my mom works for their school..So if she left, they would fire her..We need the money so I have to hold my tounge but the more they talk about me and the others the anger I have for them grows...I just dont know..

I've gained a little weight but im getting back to eating right and working out...So I will see the pounds start coming off again....

I'll be praying for you!

Blow the cobwebs and get on out on your bike...let the pedals go and fly!

Keep working with the youth and doing the things you feel led to do. Don't let others steal your joy. They will only hang themselves in the end. Keep your head up cause everything will be all right. emoticon emoticon

I came in last place in a 5k

Monday, September 27, 2010

Ok. i've been avoiding this blog post but its time to write it. Yesterday was my brithday (turned 30 years old). Anyway, I wanted to do a 5k to celebrate it. There was a festival in the city next to us and they held a 5k for runners and walkers. So me and some church friends decided to do it together. To make a long story short..I came in last place..I was embarrassed for a number of reasons. First off a cop car followed the racers which ended up just being me toward to end..I heard the cop revving his engine a few times which i took as he wanted me to hurry up and when i finished the race, the officals told me that they didnt think i was going to finish..So I took that as they kept in radio contact about me during the race...When I knew I was going to come in last, I felt horriable..Unmotivated..unhealthy...I kept thinking that im never going to do another 5k again..I wont lie..I wanted to cry..I really did...I wanted to give up and be done with it...There was some positives to the race..my finishing time for this race was 1 hr 2 mins and 54 seconds...The last 5k I was in my finishing time was over 1hr and 15 mins...So I took off a little more then 10 mins off my finishing time..Also since I was the only male walker, I got the fastest male trophy....All the other men were running...The trophy made me laugh..I even think my name is going to be in the paper..lol..So the race wasnt all bad...I dont wanna be last again though..I'm going to work hard to make sure that never happens again...

Way to go for sticking it out and finishing. You should be proud of yourself. And I'm never sure why finishing last is so terrible unless you're running a race. People finish where they finish and as there is always a winner there is also someone that brings up the rear. I'm impressed that you improved your time and finished while being surrounded by such negative attitudes. emoticon

WHAT-EVER!!!! you should be VERY proud of yourself for a number of reasons!!!! I'm proud of you for even having the guts to do a race at all, I am still too nervous to do one myself! It takes a lot of courage. Those people that didn't think you were going to finish had to eat their words and I'm sure you surprised them. You proved that they couldn't count you out! I'm sure you earned their respect!!

The emotions will always be in it, always... but you stuck it through and finished! A big CONGRATULATIONS to you. Never let any naysayers (or engine-revving cops) take that away from you...(lol)

Plus Eleanor Roosevelt said, "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." Next time, keep your head up and know that you are no less any other racer, first, middle or last. Bless.

Never discount your abilities or growth as a person. Do not measure yourself amongst others. Find peace in the fact that you have two legs and two feet (four things that some people wish they had but don't) and you got off the couch (something many people don't do) and moved your body. As my page title says...'It's Not About the Fast, It's About the Finish'. Congrats on starting AND finishing!

James - there is a quote by John Bingham - 'the miracle is not that I finished - the miracle is I had the courage to start'. Be proud of the fact you did it. I always look back at my runs when I run events (I don't call it race) to see how I can improve my next run. Dude, give your self the credit you deserve - you walked it, you shaved off time, and you got a price.... three rewards - well deserved.

You've lost a butt-load of weight, set and achieved multiple goals for yourself, and you maintained a 3 mile per hour walking pace for an hour during your 5k.     Congratulations. I came in last in a cross country ski race last year and had a man on a snowmobile offering to take me back to the finish line. At one point I had to take off the skis and walk. I did not really know how to ski and it was the 4th part of a 4 event race that goes on over a year. I signed up for it again this year and each event, the swim, bike and run were all faster then last year. I hope to not be last this year but I am going to do my best. It is fantastic how much weight you have lost and I bet at your heaviest you would not even imagine doing a 5K, keep up the good work. Suzy

You COULD be the guy who sits on his couch and never tries. You're trying, you're improving and if you stick with it, you'll continue to improve. Use this as motivation, but be proud that you are trying and finishing. Next 5K you'll be under an hour for sure!

PS - I think that cop needed to be told off for revving his engine. I'm glad you didn't quit, don't let others bring you down, don't let anything stop you. Your future is what you make of it, not what others say it should be.

3 years without soda!

Thursday, September 16, 2010

Sept. 11th marked 3 years of me deciding to change my life from living very unhealthy to healthy but my biggest accomplishment is going without soda for 3 years! I know some people may say thats no big deal but it is for me. Dr. Pepper was my drug of choice. I drunk that stuff ALL THE TIME!!!!!! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack...I just drunk the stuff but I gave it up! 3 years without it and hopefully I will go with out it for the rest of my life!

This year I have given up cookies, cakes, pies...anything thats considered a snack..and I have done pretty good! I've switched to eating fruit and veggies instead of snacking on all the other bag stuff! My birthday is coming up and every year I get a cake..This year i'm hoping for Ruby tuesdays salad bar..lol...Thats the best salad bar any where around me. Anyway, I have to have a cake..just something that a birthday cant be without..So i've decided that i'm going to get some cup cakes and bring them to the youth at my church to enjoy! I will get enjoyment from the kids eating them! And no, I will not be eating one of them..lol..

What do you mean it's no big deal to go three years w/o soda? Let me tell you, that's a BIG deal! Congrats! That is so very awesome. DrPepper was my poison too! I have only made it one month and counting. And like you, I drank it all the time!

But seriously, good job! Keep it up. Also, as a side note, if you are making the cupcakes yourself, you can substatute the oil called for in the recipe for unsweetened applesauce. No one will ever know the difference and it makes them super moist!

As for your new goal, a little bit of the sweet stuff will not hinder your weight lose goals...but it's your choice mister!

Felt great outside

Monday, September 13, 2010

and tomorrow is going to feel greater! I think the news said the low's will be in the 60's. I hope to hit the track early and get my laps in. If you have read my earlier blogs, you would know that ive been having achilles heel issues. It's getting better but still have a little pain here and there. Lately, its been hard getting in my 6 laps in but i've been forcing myself to do it. Since today felt so great I ended up doing 8 laps which equals 4 miles. My achilles heel didnt bother me much at all and I even ran some!! I've decided to be in another 5k at the end of the month. It's a run/walk 5k..I'm always scared of being last but it should be fun! I'm just going to have to push myself to get back to my pre-achilles heel issue but I also wanna make sure not to make my injury worse! So I wont over do it!!!!! Anyway, I hope you all are doing well!!
