My Workout Today 4-19-11

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

I am doing the FatX101 12-day program to help jumpstart my re-entry in to my workout and healthy living lifestyle. I'm on day four and couldn't feel more proud of myself and more energized in such a short time. Try it for yourself.

OMG! That was tough. I substituted mountain climbers for burpees, as the burpees weren't good for my lower back. Where there's a will, there's a way. Make a way Sparkies! emoticon

Making Cardio Fun

Thursday, July 08, 2010

If you are like me, you can get pretty darn bored with cardio at times. I found the below vid (from Bodybuilder.com) that I thought was useful in making cardio less boring. I used to do this but had forgotten all about it. Enjoy

Bam! Boredom. Turn

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

Starting out my day thinking that I am going to do a great 20-minute jump rope routine. About 3 1/2 minutes into the routine it hit me . . . BAM! Boredom. What am I to do? I really want to get my cardio in but my treadmill is down and it is raining cats and dogs outside. Think, think, and think – I got it! I can do a circuit training session to help eliviate the boredom. Jump rope for 30 seconds, do 30 jump & jacks, do 12 side shuffles, 12 crunches on the ball, 30 leg-pull ups, and do 12 wood chops on each side. Whew! After three sets of that routine, I feel energized and ready for my day.

Point is - you have to be adaptable. I didn’t expect to be bored doing my jump rope routine, which I love to do, but I was. I didn’t expect it to rain so hard so early in the morning, but it did. We have to learn not to allow obstacles to get in our way of achieving our ultimate goal. When the road turns, you don’t keep straight, you turn with the road.

Make it a great day everyone and remember to turn with the road.

What about workout videos? I LOVE my workout videos. There are so many good ones out there, and it's so convenient that you can do them at home and they're cheap!

To My Natural Hair Divas: My 5.5 Natural Hair Vloggers

Tuesday, June 08, 2010

In March of last year I was so elated with the results that I was having from my workouts that I decided to blog about where I received inspiration for creating my own workout plans in, My Top 5.5 Video Training Websites ( www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

The same has come over me in my journey to grow my hair natural. It was a process that did not happen overnight but it was one that was well worth the sacrifices. I am so pleased with my natural hair results that I just had to once again share what allows me to keep a fresh perspective on a lifestyle goal of mine. Here are My Top 5.5 Natural Hair Vloggers

YouTube ( youtube.com )

Yes, I said YouTube. If you go to YouTube and type the words natural hair, a plethora of natural hair vloggers will appear. YouTube, much like SparkPeople has a great community of folks who all have the same healthy goals in mind – it’s just for their hair. For me this was greatly instrumental, as I was able to listen to other women’s stories about why they decided to go natural, what products worked best for them, how they styled their hair and pictures and tutorials on all of the above. Five of my fav vloggers are:

1. Nikkimae2003: ( www.youtube.com/user/Nikkimae2003 )
Chances are if you’ve even been on YouTube and typed “natural hair” in the search box, you’ve already seen one of Mae’s videos. In my opinion, she reigns as one of the top natural hair authorities on YouTube (that’s strictly my opinion). Watch Mae as she transitions, goes to the hairdresser to get her big chop (BC), grows her hair out, blows her hair out, makes her own natural hair care products and hair accessories, and teaches you how to protect your hair. If you don’t get it by now, Mae does it all. She’s one of my favorites and I’m sure she’ll soon be yours.

2. NappyChronicles: ( www.youtube.com/user/NappyChronicles
This girl is the bomb! Haling from New Orleans (I love her accent), she gives excellent advice on everything from product application and technique, her signature style, natural hair education, styling natural hair for children and everything in between.

3. xGOLDn: ( www.youtube.com/user/xGOLDn#p/u/6/Fb
While she started out giving make-up and beauty tips when she was going through her transition to natural hair she started making hair videos for fun. Now she’s one of the best and most creative YouTube Vlogger around giving information on edgy transitional styles, hair protection and product usage.

4. AfricanExport: ( www.youtube.com/user/AFRICANEXPORT )
This girl has got it right when it comes encouraging other naturals. She talks about natural hair regrets, winter styling and protection, wash and go hair, and defining your natural curl pattern.

5. Misskrisnew: ( www.youtube.com/misskrisnew#p/u/1/2m
Another creative chica – not only are her natural hair tips wonderful but she also has her own line of unique jewelry that is simply beautiful. You’ll love it – trust me.

5.5 Natural Hair YouTube Vlogger: ( www.youtube.com/group/naturalhairvlo
This is a group of Vloggers that could include the above mentioned ladies but also more than what I’ve listed. It was started by Mae (#1) and another Vlogger. Great stuff.

Feel free to share your healthy natural hair tips, sites and suggestions.

Hey RedHatLady9 - Good for you! I started to list Miss Jessie's website. They show some great techniques for applying product to your hair. I haven't used their projects yet but it's on my short list. Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog. Stay natural :~).

Thanks for sharing. This is my second attempt at being natural. I was natural about 3 year ago for 2 year but got bored and relaxed my hair. Then when I got pregnant my hair wouldn't take a relaxer so I opted to transition again. No I am back to the same old afro puff and it's driving me nuts. I am so hair-lazy but I hope to do better.

Sometimes You Just Have to Motivate Yourself

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Sometimes you just have to motivate yourself. While trying to get reacquainted with SP I checked to see if I had any new “go get’m girl’ messages or “you can do it posts” from my Spark Friends. To my surprise, there were none. So I flipped through my previous blogs to see if I had any new comments. Again to my surprise there were none - yes, I’ve been out of commission far too long. Next I decided to read some of my blogs and accomplishments and was pleasantly surprised at what I had written in my blogs such as Emotional Eating and 17+ Pounds Later, Exercise is Indeed the Fountain of Youth and 3 Lessons Learned This Summer. After reading I was excited by my past accomplishments and lessons learned. I was also motivated by my previous ability to do more than what I set out to do. So no, there were no new “go get’m girl’ messages or “you can do it posts” but I was motivated nonetheless by my own accomplishments. Now “go get’m and be the motivation that you want to see.
