June is Bustin' Out All Over

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

I don't want you to think I like Carousel. I don't. We sang June is Bustin' Out on Sunday and it's been in my head since. However, I did hit a nice high G# at the end of it at 10am. That was fun!

My weight is up to 172.0, but I'm pretty sure I know why. Two things 1) I ended up having a crazy high-salt meal for dinner, which is really rare. It was Cajun spiced ham and beans, and the seasoning had a lot of salt and so did the ham and I added some bacon and cheese. The beans were from dried, so they were about the only safe item! Anyway, I always react to salt because I don't use much. 2) TOM is just about to hit. In like, hours. Therefore, I'm okay for now.

My Tuesday Tip, however, is to watch your salt intake because it can make the scale jump! You should limit your salt anyway, but at least be aware of it so you know.

I did my strength yesterday: push-ups, triceps, chest flies, sit-ups, and bicycle crunches.

I'll be running this evening, but I'm not sure if I should do something right now. Maybe I'll just see if there's anything interesting On Demand.

I've recently been sucked into the world of Scrabble-style word games on my phone with friends. I'm playing 3 games and I think I'm losing all of them! Yikes. I need to get better at words. I'm great with numbers and logic, but definitely not as great with vocabulary. That's okay, playing with my mother and husband should improve that in short order!

Oh, I found a ripe avocado at the grocery store this week (I live in Mass. so this almost never happens) so I made guacamole to dip veggies in as a snack. I added lemon juice, crushed garlic, cilantro, and sea salt to the avocado and it is fabulous! Can't wait for my snack later.

Plan for today: be awesome. Get stuff done. Run.
I can do it!

Onward and upward!

Pride and Joy

Monday, June 06, 2011

Title song lyric is from Stevie Ray Vaughn and I'm planning to play it at jazz tonight.

Happy Monday Morning! I could definitely use some motivation this morning. Let's see what I can find.

“The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.”
Oliver Wendell Holmes

I like that. So, weigh-in was 171.4, I can handle that. For now.

Yesterday was good. I ate appropriately. Dinner was grain-free, and I avoided all my husband's junky snacks. I even dipped veggies in his chili-cheese dip.

We ran 4.5 miles and planned out 5 and 6 miles loops for this month. I also did legs and shoulders strength training. This morning, I did yoga.

It is my last week of work at my research job, yay! Got to really wrap things up now, but I'm almost there.

Okay, so I'm planning on a great day! Hopefully, you all are too!

Roots Hold Me Close

Sunday, June 05, 2011

Song lyric this morning from the Unitarian Universalist hymn Spirit of Life. Maybe we'll sing it this morning.

So, my weight is down to 170.4, at least the crap is coming off quickly. Today will include a 4+ mile run, and then tomorrow will be a fast, so then I should easily be back when I started last Saturday.

I'm mostly sticking to no grains, no sugar except last night I ended up having a drink with grenadine and pineapple and about 4 corn chips. This morning I decided to have oatmeal for breakfast since I will be running a distance later. However, it was Bob's Red Mill multigrain breakfast mix and the only things I added to it were an egg, unsweetened/unsalted natural peanut butter, raspberries, strawberries, and less than a tablespoon of light cream. I will also put myself together a pre-running snack of raw milk local cheddar, veggie chips, and dried fruit. I like whole food running. The husband likes Clif bars. At least his choice is better than most.

We did run yesterday after seeing X-Men: First Class. Both things were excellent. I should jump back into strength training tonight, and then I will be back on track. So, new thing on my accountability list: I need to strength train every day. I have a 7.5 minute routine that switches up muscle groups on a three-day rotation. There is no reason I can't get 7.5 minutes in every day, so if you don't hear about strength training, ask me about it!

Last night, my chicken chili was yummy. It had diced chicken, onion, 4 minced jalapenos, a tin of green chilis, white beans, corn, one diced tomato, cumin and cilantro and I topped it with cheddar jack and ate it with sour cream.

Time for church, snack, running, dungeons and dragons, laundry, dinner, strength training ... dude, I have a lot to do!

I Want to Come Over

Saturday, June 04, 2011

Title from Melissa Etheridge song I sang at karaoke on Wed.

I was reminded yesterday to weigh-in, yikes! 172.4 wow. Well, considering how far off the rails I got, I guess that could be worse. Time for some serious buckling down. I think I'm going to have a grain-free week, or at least grain minimal. That tends to help me out. Also, sugar free.

In that vein, I should do some meal planning since I need to go shopping about an hour.

Sat: Chicken chili
Sun: Roast beef quiche with salad
Mon: Cajun meat/bean dish with salad
Tues: spicy Teriyaki stir fry
Wed: Alfredo primavera with salad
Thurs: Steak, feta sauteed spinach and diced tomatoes, broccoli and cauliflower
Fri: "Hamburger Helper" with salad

Okay. Yesterday worked out far better than any previous days, even though I still didn't exercise. Today I will run, though probably in the afternoon because we're going to see X-Men: First Class at 11:30am.

I also need to clean a lot, our apartment is a huge mess, and I need to write articles for my blog to get myself ahead a bit.

Also: I told the one realtor that we would rent her house next year, so we have a place to live, woohoo! Now I just need to book movers and I can relax until we need to pack. Not moving until August, but I'm glad to have it all squared away.

Not much else to say, lots to do!

Stress does funky things to the body and weight! Glad you've got a place to move and a moving time. That helps . . . a little.

Good luck!

It's Friday, I'm in Love

Friday, June 03, 2011

I have no idea why that song is stuck in my head, but it is.

So, my travels were, umm, well, mostly pretty terrible. My husband got a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt by a cop trolling a toll booth. He got into a huge blowout with his father which ended up in us not having dinner with the family on Sunday. Our apartment-hunting expedition had a variety of issues including people who wouldn't get in touch and creepy landlords, and stress was generally off the charts.

So, all my plans to be good, yeah, out the window. I ate like crap, barely exercised, and am still kind of getting it all back together.

There were some good things. We had a good time with our friends and played some awesome Rock Band. I had some good BBQ out with my sister. We probably found a place to live in August, but we still need to confirm it.

Anyway, I need to pretty much not screw up and back way off carbs for the whole next week to make up for this. Also, I need to run. Fortunately, the weather appears to finally be cooperating.

Anyway, I'm back. I'm blogging. I know what I'm meant to do. I think I can do it! The rest of the summer has to get better, right?

A tip for apartment searching - call the city inspector's office and ask them for a recommendation. After I ended up in a bad apartment then a horrific apartment, I talked to the inspector's office and they were able to tell me what apartment communities didn't receive a lot of complaints and took care of the few they did get very quickly. It was a huge help and I found a cheap but decent apartment to spend my last 6 months in before I bought my house.
