The Blog About Fasting

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

Good morning!

Okay, so I finally got back on the Wii Fit this morning, and it told me that I weighed 170lbs. Yikes! I think it's about time to get back on the controlling my sugar habit bandwagon ASAP. For the next two days I can only have 2 sugar items per day, that includes alcohol. On Thursday I'll fast again, and then we're going to NYC this weekend.

So, I know I've talked about the fasting before but I can't remember where or when so I'll do it again. I fast according to the principles of the e-book Eat Stop Eat by Brad Pilon. www.eatstopeat.com Twice a week I try to fast for 18-24 hours, meaning for me, not eating after dinner one night and then not eating until dinner the next night. This is a calorie reductions strategy with the added bonus of helping to improve insulin sensitivity. Brad Pilon bradpilon.com/brads-blog/ , who wrote the book, has a Master's degree and reads scholarly articles on the subject on a regular basis. Essentially, the research says that fasting does not affect your metabolism in the short term, and that calories in calories out is all that matters. Fasting is a good, simple way to cut calories without getting OCD about when and what you are eating. It works great for me, and nowadays I barely even notice that I'm not eating. I chat with Brad Pilon on twitter, and he's very smart. I've been fasting now for almost a year and a half. For me, it works wonders.

Okay, so, today I am running, and tonight I need to do some strength. Real strength, I've been slacking on that too.

Finally, time for Tuesday Tips! My tip today is set small, accomplishable goals. My goals today are to run, strength train for 10 minutes, and not eat more than 2 sugar items today. I can do that.

Time to get on this.

When I track I do track on food days although right now I pretty much don't track but I know pretty well where I stand with calories and what I should or shouldn't eat.

Wow! OK, I'll have to check that out. In a weird way it seems like it would be less painful to abstain altogether than to control cravings once in a while. Do you still track calories on food days?

Fasting is way beyond the reach of my discipline right now and I may never get there. Rabbit-eating is what seems to work best for me, by which I mean eating small bites often, with a high percentage of freggies and whole grains. I don't think the urge to binge will ever go away. I just need to manage it.

Happy Monday Morning!

See, I say it like that convince myself as well as all of you. I don't really want it to be Monday either. I have way too much to do that never seems to get done, ack. Okay, well, I'm doing this and I'm going to go right now and find a motivational quote for Monday so that will be done!

Here we go ...

Life takes on meaning when you become motivated, set goals and charge after them in an unstoppable manner.
Les Brown

Okay, I like that. It's like my strategy of making everything a game with interesting goals. Like laundry. I hate laundry, seriously. I have to go up and down two flights of stairs and carry the clothes and I hate it. Well, the only thing I like about it is singing in the laundry room. So, I got a recording app for my Droid, and I made the laundry room my personal recording studio. Now, the rules are that I can record when I do laundry, and no other times. Laundry was much more exciting this week. I sang I Dreamed a Dream and Mariah Carey's Hero, and Jewel's You Were Meant for Me.

So, what's today's game and goals then, right? Well, I'm fasting, so a goal is not to eat until dinner. Another goal will be to track 2 sets of 10-12 of five different strength exercises, these don't have to be done all at once. I can do that, right?

Okay. Right now, I'm off to Kinect and Hulu. I love talking in tech languages.

OOOHHHH....I don't have the steps to do when I do laundry but I still hate it, so you're not alone! When I'm folding laundry I HAVE to have my i-Pod plugged in. Drowns out the sounds of BOREDOM! LOL

Have a good Monday.

I'm trying the near-daily blogging game for accountability in life in general right now and maybe eventually in food. Anyway, what I mean by that, sparkfriends, is that if you haven't seen an entry in the morning, bug me.

Yesterday was a small party and I made pizza. My pizza is awesome. I've got the recipe adjustment from my mother's recipe down perfectly, and I don't even think she would know it's gluten-free.

So, today is super-catch-up-on-my-life day after two days of travel and party. Laundry, emails, cleaning, etc. I am planning to go do some yoga right now, and then get off to church for choir practice. I missed last week, so I have no idea what we're singing! That's okay, I'm a good sight reader.

Alright, now I'm stalling. Yoga. Now. Bye.

Coconut, mmmm

So, yesterday's interview went the way they usually go, which is good. I met up with the parents and my sister afterwards and went out to dinner for Thai. I had something called Evil Prince Squid, which was a sweet and spicy curry. I asked for spice level 4, should have asked for 5! It had a decent bite though. I also had coconut soup and coconut rice, yum!

Now time for Cracker Barrel breakfast with mom, and then driving home. I did run this morning. I'm off!

Glad to hear the interview went well. I haven't visited you in forever, so I thought to drop by - saw your blog on the celiac thread.

"Evil" Prince Squid - very creative name, lol. I've never been to a Cracker Barrel. Sounds glutenous to me, lol. What do you order?

Traveling, Again

Friday, April 08, 2011

So, I'm off in less than an hour to drive out to New York for another interview, so this will be short.

I had a terrible case of the munchies yesterday, yikes! I biked though, so that's good. I'm also fasting today which is excellent because I don't really have time for food.

Right now, I'm off to do a quick kickboxing routine on Kinect and get on the road. I have my running gear for tomorrow morning though!
