I've been seriously in no-spark land for a few days now, sorry all! Life kind of picked me up and kicked me in the butt, and it's not quite over yet, though much closer. Today was Choir Sunday at my church, and I learned a lot of music to sing this week and one piece to play on the piano, whew! It all went really well though!
Also, work is a bit insane and I have some serious updates due by the end of the day tomorrow that I've barely started. Me and hubby also needed to super clean the kitchen this weekend because we have been infested with fruit flies with no apparent source. Yuck.
Anyway, as per the blog title, I played with quinoa this weekend, actually, I ground it into flour and made muffins recipes.sparkpeople.com/recip
e-detail.asp?recipe=1078557 . They were yummy. Now that I can make cheaper quinoa flour, I think I'll use it more often!
So, this weekend wasn't great. There was a lot of food Friday night at a friend's BBQ, too many of the above muffins today, and more than I should have doritos yesterday evening. On the plus side, I did not stuff myself on any of these occasions, which is all too common for me at parties. I don't have a "satiated" switch yet, or even really a good "full" one, just "munch" and "ouch, too much". Therefore, finding stopping points inbetween is still a challenge, and I feel I accomplished it.
Tonight begins a fast, and Tuesday morning I can more thoroughly assess the damage. I'm hoping for minimal. Workouts are still good. I ran on Saturday, a full 5k, hubby timed it with his Nike Plus. I had a great high the last mile too, while he was just barely chugging along. I just did my workout tonight.
I'm hoping to be around more this week then the end of last, but tomorrow is eh. We'll see.

Bueno y Sano actually, means Good and Healthy, and it's where my dinner came from. It came from there because I totally forgot I was going to have a long day and didn't make anything in advance, oops! However, what I had from there was a salad with veggies, a cup of rice and beans, and a bit of balsamic dressing. It was yummy and easily in my calorie range, woohoo!
Of course, failure to prepare dinner also means no lunch for tomorrow, so I had to make something up tonight. I made egg salad out of two hard boiled eggs mixed with mustard and Greek yogurt, and I made a mix of chickpeas, corn, zucchini, tomatoes, and feta with olive oil and balsamic dressing. Now, I am set for tomorrow!
Today went well. I ate well, even with dinner off menu. I exercised three times, even though I got home late. One of those was a mile walk to pick up dinner and a mile back. I ran inside this morning since it was 35 degrees, in May, so too frosty to get hubby outside.
On that note, Tuesday's Tip is to always have an exercise back-up plan! Have a few short but intense or equipment-free exercises for times when life or the weather don't cooperate.
Okay, tomorrow should go well too, lots to do, as usual.

Lord of the Rings Risk actually. Yeah, we're geeks, but it was fun. The powers of good would have won, if we had barreled through the game, but at 10:30pm, we just assumed the end. We've seen the movies, right!
Okay. Diet: fasted until 6pm. Ate dinner, and probably more snacking stuff than I would have, but all of it whole foods, fruits, nuts, etc. I drank a ton of tea today because it was freakin' freezing! It is May, but you wouldn't know it because it only got up to about 50 degrees!
This morning I did 12 minutes of tabatas and then midday I did some walking and stairs around campus. I also agreed to play a piano piece on Sunday at church, so I went to practice it for a bit, with the stairs on either side.
Motivational Monday! My motivation for the day was Walking On Sunshine, because the sun was shining all day! Still freezing, but pretty.
Okay, anyway. I had an awful headache today, but not dead yet, so the sleeping thing hasn't completely backfired on me yet.
Anyway. Long day, but got a lot done. Now, finishing How I Met Your Mother and getting some sleep.

Or lack thereof. Me and Spark are going to need to have a serious talk about this missing Email glitch. I'm still getting nothing associated with message boards. However, all your blog comments are getting to me just fine and so are sparkmails!
Okay, my weekend update. Saturday was my "day off" and it was. I had a number of locally made chocolates and a pack of dark chocolate Reese's. I have to admit though, chocolate that is not dark enough doesn't taste as good any more! Then I ate too many tostitos and fritos. However, I dipped them in homemade guacamole and salsa over lowfat cream cheese, so no dips with strange thickeners or added sugars. I made sugar-free shortbread and sugar-free strawberry-rhubarb jam and ate that too. Not carb-free, but sugar free!
Long story, short: ate too much food, but choices are improving. Also, went out for Chinese for lunch and left food on my plate, yay!
We didn't run on Sat. because of rain, but I did do a 30min bike workout. Today, I did detox yoga (meaning lots of twists!) to keep the junk in my digestive system moving. Tonight I did my hardcore workout. I think I ate well enough today. I had a few more pieces of shortbread, but also lots of veggies at church, then stayed on track.
I'm switching my fasting day to Monday, so no snack tonight and fasting tomorrow. I'm hoping that will make my Tuesday weight not totally suck. I was right about TOM, so between that and the come down from my off day, this should be an excellent week for weight loss.
Last week was serious PMS cravings, but I only gave in on Sat when I was planning to. That means this week should be a breeze, right!
Quick notes on the shortbread and jam. The shortbread was a flour blend, 1/2 cup each of coconut, tapioca, and brown rice and 1 cup each of millet and sorghum, 1 cup of butter, 1 tbsp xantham gum, 1 bit more than 1/2 cup pear puree, kneaded well and pressed thinly into a pan, baked at 350F for a while.
The jam was pureed strawberries, rhubarb, and soaked prunes which I then dehydrated for a while to thicken. It is awesome. And sugar free.
Now time to sleep. On that subject. I take a tricyclic antidepressant to improve my sleep, and after taking it for months, the levels build up in my system and it stops working. So then I detox for a bit to get the levels down to restart. I've done this at least twice a year for the last 3-4 years, so I know the deal. However, it can drain me for the week I do it. Therefore, time to try and sleep. We'll see how it goes.

My brain is very one-track sometimes, and tonight we are going to see the Goonies on the big screen at our local movie theater for a midnight showing, yay! Because of that movie, we want to retire to Astoria, OR. Okay, on with the diet and fitness.
Today was a fast day. It technically began last night after dinner, and it was all the way through to tonight's dinner. It was probably the best fast I have had yet, I didn't feel hungry at all, and I didn't even feel overly drawn to dinner. It helped that it was a massively busy day at work, so I was in motion pretty much all day.
Dinner was spicy chili. It wasn't necessarily intended to be crazy spicy, but sometimes you throw peppers around and things get hot. I had two medium sized jalapenos, one poblano (less spicy, but bigger), and two little green chilis (also less spicy). It also had half an orange bell pepper, half a small onion, crushed tomatoes, medium salsa, black beans, corn, and pork, and was finished with onion powder, garlic salt, cumin, cilantro, a few dashes of Worcestershire and a bit of real maple syrup. We ate it with lowfat Mexican blend cheese and lowfat sour cream and a whole grain taco shell. Delicious, but totally sinus clearing.
I did my morning workout, but didn't get to a midday one, however, I was up and down and on my feet quite a bit, so I'm hoping that helped. I'm intending to do a Hardcore workout in about 30-45min.
The scale still hasn't been nice to me all week, even though it has been going in the correct direction, just in miniscule amounts. However, my packages of pills tell me that my TOM is just around the corner, so I'm betting on bloating from that. I'm not going to sugar-up this weekend at all, so I'm also hoping that helps me out.
Funny thing. Yesterday, I had a seriously insane, both good and bad, but insane kind of day. At some point, I went over to the cake that was sitting in the office, and decided to allow myself a spoonful of the icing (can't have the cake, gluten and that), so I did. Well, after a moment or two I actually went looking for something to wash my mouth out with because it was so sweet it didn't taste good. Really! You know how long it has taken me to not want frosting? Well, I tried going lower sugar last year and it didn't take, but this year I've been working at a no-sugar lifestyle since January, and just now I finally found the taste of something sweet yucky. See that! It can be done, keep at it all!
Okay. On to the goods. I missed Thankful Thursday yesterday, but I was thankful for my pretty red raincoat that kept me dry in the morning. Today is Fun Fact Friday and my fun fact is that you can save the equivalent carbon used in driving almost 2000 miles just by eating local foods all year! Now, I can't do all year because Massachusetts gets cold, but I'm so excited that it's local food time right now, and tomorrow is a Farmer's market day! Or at least my favorite farm stands.
Whew. Well, time to get moving on the rest of my evening. I'm boiling up some rhubarb and prunes which I'm going to add strawberries to to make a jam. Yay!
