When Life Gives You Cookies ...

Don't eat them! You will be one step ahead of me today. You might know that I'm gluten-intolerant, which has a few times been a blessing in disguise because I'm able to avoid high-calorie baked goods. Well, my loving lab manager was nice to me for one of our going-away parties today and bought me gluten-free cookies. Well, I had a couple ... dozen. I have issues with portion control, still, after two years.

So, being insulin resistant and on metformin, that much sugar will send me into a hyperglycemic state closely followed by a hypoglycemic state, all told, not fun. So, I noticed the sugar high, realized what I had done, and proceeded to be a good sparker and space monkey and spend the next 20 minutes running up and down stairs and hills and speed walking and ended with a couple of sets of push-ups. It worked, no sugar crashes! And I felt better about doing something good for myself after doing bad things. Woohoo!

Dovetail!! It's WOOHOO WEDNESDAY! I'm super excited for my cookie/cardio victory and also for going running with my hubby yesterday morning and hopefully tomorrow morning! What can you celebrate? Think of something, even tiny things count!

Anyway, as for my to do list, my work plans again got completely messed up, but I did some important things including the talk to my boss one about a conference at the end of the month that I'm going to. Everything else was accomplished effectively!

My to do list for tomorrow:

- morning run, weather depending
- prep dinner in crockpot
- Thankful Thursday
- do all the lab stuff I didn't do yesterday
- call Firestone
- midday walk
- quick workout before D&D
- no snacking after dinner
- 10 min singing
- yoga twists before bed

Okay. Gotta run, it's my friend's birthday and that means KARAOKE! Yes, I LOVE Karaoke.

You are not alone with portion control... some bags lie when the say they have 9 servings ... they really only have one or two in there.

    Thats an excellent way to recover. I'm also gluten intolerant, insulin resistant, and fight sugar cravings, sometimes I win and sometimes I lose. Have you ever tried IOWL (podcast called Inside Out Weight loss) it has helped me slow down the severity of a face down in the cookies, cake or french fries. It might help you too.

    I so understand! I a chocolate bar and then had pizza for supper! I am type 2 so both on the same day is not good! I had to get up and do a lot of walking and my st! NOW I really want to go to bed! I am so glad I don't eat like that everyday any more!

White Chocolate Tea

I found a white chocolate flavored tea on clearance after V-Day. I'm not overly fond of "white" chocolate, but I love chocolate and tea, so I went for it. It seriously smells awesome. It tastes like tea with the slight aftertaste of cocoa, slightly bitter. I loved it tonight when I really wanted to eat Hershey's kisses. My husband had some yesterday with sweet-n-low and it was almost like hot chocolate. I prefer to avoid artificial sweeteners, but if I was really in need I bet stevia would give it a nice kick as well. Tonight, the scent and bit of flavor was enough.

Today went awfully well for food and exercise, did everything I was meant to and ate what I planned to. I didn't quite accomplish all my work goals, but I decided I had to focus on something in particular which I did. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

From now on, Tuesday is tip day! I will spread my best healthy lifestyle tips. Tuesday's tip for today is: If you feel unmotivated, go motivate someone else! It's amazing how great it feels to help others and can give you a boost!

I totally popped on the Introduce Yourself boards and made a new sparkfriend who likes my favorite Winchester brothers, woohoo!

To Do list for Wednesday:

- Morning Yoga!
- Make hummus, add feta and boiled egg
- WOOHOO Wednesday posts
- Midday walk (if weather cooperates, stairs if not)
- new cultures
- collect all cells
- start iron/acetate pulse
- talk to my boss
- 10 min singing
- write cat!fic for 30 min
- evening workout
- yoga twists

Okay. Plan is set. I am ready. I am so excited for yoga tomorrow morning, I haven't been doing enough yoga lately.

Maybe I'll also go to bed early tonight, hmmm ...

My Go-To Meal

So, today I had a lab meeting. It was 5-6:30pm and I totally forgot about it. I was originally planning to have a crockpot stew ready for when I got home, yeah, that didn't happen, because I remembered after getting to work. Fortunately, I have a go-to dinner: taco salad. I can make it quite fast because it's essentially ground meat, canned diced tomatoes, beans (pre-cooked and frozen), and jalapenos (pickled jarred). Tonight I also added chopped red onion and red pepper. Serve it over lettuce topped with crumbled taco shells and cheese and a dollop or sour cream. I got home at about 6:40 and we ate just after 7pm.

I accomplished my to do list! Including all three workouts, my labwork, my practices, it was awesome.

I am a little extra hungry tonight, but I think TOM plus an off weekend is to blame for that. I had a few more nuts and dried fruit, and then I made myself apple-cinnamon tea. No sugar! Woohoo!

Okay, plan for tomorrow: repeat today! Okay, not exactly, but same ideas.

To Do:

- morning run (indoors if needed)
- no sugar
- start new cultures
- mid-work stair climbing
- complete a clone library
- welcome some new spark members
- spend 1 hour on the microscope
- 10 min singing practice
- finish cat!fic chapter
- evening workout

Okay, I can do it! So can you!

Day 28: Hamantaschen and Happy Purim!

My gluten-free, sugar-free hamantaschen were a huge hit! People who knew could barely believe there was no sugar in the dough. I posted the recipe: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai

Okay. Well. Yesterday's party was awesome and I ate a ton. I got right back on track today. I'll see the true extent of the damage tomorrow, but I suspect it wasn't that bad. I met my 2lb goal for Feb, and now I'm setting my next 2lb goal for March. March might be tough since I will be out of town for a week between March 25-31. I think I want to see 151lbs on April 3rd. I can do that.

Well, time to get back to the system of posting my to do's! For tomorrow:

- morning workout
- post Motivational Monday posts!
- no sugar
- mid-work walking (gotta pay the rent anyway)
- call best buy about points
- complete a clone library
- spend at least 2 hours on the microscope
- spend at least 30min writing
- evening workout
- 10-15 min of singing practice

The last one is new because I agreed to sing a song in church in about a month that goes up to high Fs and Gs, and I am out of practice for those, so my vocal muscles need workouts too!

Whew, I am going to be busy, woohoo!

It's going to be a great week everyone, at least if you make it one.

Day 27: Pictures!

So, it's that time again for me to stay accountable to you all and myself and post some monthly pictures. Here's me at the beginning on the year and now!

So my current yearly weight change: 163.4 - 153.0 (-10.4lbs)
Not half bad! I reached my weight goal for February, which was 153. For March my goal will be another 2 lbs for 151. I figure I can easily lose two pounds a month all year, because that's not so much.

Okay. Well, yesterday was boring foodwise, just classics. Tonight is party and I'm fasting all day until dinner!

My to do list today involves party prep: cleaning up, making hamantaschen, buying party stuff, etc. I'm making a tri-tip steak for dinner with a red wine demi glaze of some kind. Should be exciting.

Okay, I'm out all.
