Day 25: Birthday!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

They say it's your birthday ...
It's my birthday too

Happy Birthday to George Harrison and myself!

So, my karaoke night was fun. I ended up singing a Dixie Chicks song and Me and Bobby McGee, which nobody knew because it was a college crowd and they are all too young and don't learn the classics anymore. I didn't have any drinks, woohoo!

Today has been pretty typical for a Thursday except I've been playing all my favorite music rather than trying to play stuff everyone likes. I did my biking this morning and ran stairs midday. I've been eating good things. I got work done at work, including both items on the to do list.

So, no great insights or excitement today, just generally happy. I did have the thought this morning when I put on my favorite shirt that I had a nice curvy figure, and if I can have a great figure by 28, then I can have abs by 30, right? So, that's my new long-term goal. Abs by 30. Wow, I'm close to 30.

Well, I'm doing this early since I have a lab meeting, followed by run to eat and play D&D and then bed. Dinner should be excellent. I made a fajita casserole thingy. It has layers of pork with cream cheese and salsa verde; pico de gallo made from tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and black beans; corn tortillas; shredded cheese. I can't wait to have some! Yesterday I made a BBQ Chicken and Rice dish that was so good I posted it: recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp?recipe=962846
. Serious comfort food.

To do for tomorrow:

- morning, midday, and evening exercise
- finish microscope counts and examine data
- meet with the person from Girl Scouts for volunteer opportunities
- complete at least half of a clone library
- no sugar
- begin next fast after dinner
- post fun fact for Fun Fact Friday
- complete a new chapter of one of my stories

Okay. That's plenty for a Friday!

Onward and Upward!

Day 24: Karaoke!

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Oh, yes tonight is the first Karaoke night of the Birthday Extravaganza! My birthday is tomorrow (25th) and my friend's is next Wed (3rd) and we are celebrating for a week by doing Karaoke on both Wed. nights and a party on Saturday! Woohoo!

Today has gone exceptionally well so far. We had enough snow to shut down UMass, but the buses still ran so I worked a normal workday except that I left about 45 min early. Since I got home early, I did a 30 min yoga workout and it felt fabulous! It was an intermediate/advanced workout and I did all the advanced moves except for two. I forget how much I love yoga, I should get back to doing yoga two mornings a week. Food has gone well. My plan for tonight is to not drink at all, but if someone insists on buying a drink for my birthday I will have just one, and it has to be simple and not full of empty liquid calories (i.e., soda or juice).

I still intend to workout tonight before karaoke as well since it doesn't start until 10pm and I typically workout between 8-9.

Nothing special is going to happen tomorrow. Actually, we have a huge lab meeting that will run late and then a night of D&D, I like D&D, hehe!!

Okay. To do list time. Yesterday's list: going to be accomplished by midnight! All except the acetate, which was not me not wanting to do it, but running out of supplies!

To do list for tomorrow:
- running/biking in the morning
- prep enchilada casserole in the crockpot
- count microscope pictures
- finish one full clone library
- do an at-work workout
- find something interesting in the lab meeting
- no extraneous snacking during D&D

I love a good plan! Any requests for karaoke? I'm definitely "I Enjoy Being a Girl" and "We Didn't Start the Fire"

Onward and upward!

Day 23: Food

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Yes, I'm making today's entry mostly about food, which is kind of hilarious because I actually fasted today from 7pm last night until 3pm this afternoon. This should take down all my remaining bloat from NYC plus some hopefully.

Before I get on food, first exercise really quick. I ran this morning with my husband! There were snow flurries falling on us, but it wasn't actually that cold. We started at the beginning of C25K because he hasn't run in over a year and I haven't since Dec. I also bought a get-arch insole for my right shoe. My hip hurt after, but only a bit. I'm hoping this will balance me out so my hip and toe will stop hurting when I run. I also just did my stair runs here at work. Woohoo!

On to food. I've posted a bunch of recipes lately, and this morning I got really creative with the concept of a stew with chicken, ham, and navy beans which ended up being flavored with paprika, chili powder, curry, and thyme and tasted great! Here are my most current links, go make my recipes then rate them please!

I really enjoy random cooking. I was working on a cookbook back when. I should get on that again.

This weekend I am making hamantashen (jelly/seed filled triangular cookies) for Purim, and I'm considering making one regular batch and one sugar-free batch! Should be pretty exciting either way.

Okay, onto the to-do list:
I didn't get on the microscope today, and I have to find a reading now, but everything else is done!

For tomorrow:
- Microscopy!!
- Acetate measurements for experiment
- no sugar
- 3 workouts
- Do something extra nice for hubby (because he's letting me go to ...
- KARAOKE!!!

Woohoo! Okay. Off to find my reading and head to small group ministry, and then go home and workout Mayhem style.

Onward and upward!

Day 22: To Do Lists

Monday, February 22, 2010

I learned something about to do lists already. Don't put something on the list that you should just get up and do. I wanted to bring walking shoes to work and totally forgot them. I put them in my bag now instead of making it a to do for later!

The rest of my list was essentially accomplished. Work went a little different than planned, but still got important stuff done. I'm about to do my evening workout. Woohoo!

I made a yummy dinner tonight using Italian sausage mixed with Mediterranean veggies such as red onion, asparagus, zucchini, kale, cherry tomatoes, and chickpeas an topped with feta. Nice combo of Italian spices and feta cheese and chickpeas.

I'm moving my fasts around this week, fasting tomorrow and then Saturday since I have a lunch meeting on Friday (my usual fast) and a party Sat night. I think it will work well.

My husband got up this morning and exercised all by himself, it was very exciting! We are meant to run tomorrow but it is meant to snow tonight. I guess we'll see who wins. I'll jog inside no matter what, but I don't know what hubby will do if it snows.

To do list for tomorrow:
- morning/midday/evening exercise
- complete one more full set on microscope
- sample for experiment
- no sugar
- fast until 3pm, then dinner 5:30pm
- find a reading on Inherent Worth and Dignity for small group ministry
- be happy and excited about everything!

(I like that last one!)

Okay, time to workout, then teach my friend piano, then 24!

Onward and upward!

I especially like that last to do also! emoticon

It is great that you have learned a lesson about your To DO list. I was talking with my son yesterday about his. He is 26 yo and can be a perfectionist and also can suffer from panic/anxiety attacks. This will cripple him when he places too many items on his to do list. So I was telling him about the SP concept of only have a few doable items everyday that are driven by your passions. He liked that idea. I can't wait to talk to him again to see if he put this idea in to play!

Good luck on your small group!

Day 21: Running!

Sunday, February 21, 2010

My husband has decided that he wants to start running again, woohoo! He is getting up earlier for his new hours at work, and has more money, and so bought himself new shoes, new pants, and the Nike things that connects with his ipod touch. Anyway, assuming that the weather cooperates (with my luck it will snow) we will be running again starting Tuesday morning. I'm going to start my husband with the C25K which should be fine since I've been on hiatus since December waiting for a thaw. Now I just need to talk him into actually signing up for a 5K, hehe.

Okay, so yesterday in NYC I did relatively well all day. Salad and fruit for lunch with a bag of Food Should Taste Good chips, dinner was gazpacho then chicken and sauteed spinach and roasted potatoes. We did have wine with dinner, and it was a really nice Sangiovese/Cabernet blend. Then we had cute little ice cream truffle desserts. The problem was that we had discovered at the Hershey store the world's largest Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and we may have eaten them after getting home from NYC. I have a weakness for Reese's. Today I was going to get right back on track, but was thwarted at church by gluten-free goodies brought by others that I had to try, and unlike mine, these has sugar in them. Yup, plenty of sugar. I'm planning to workout tonight, soon actually.

In other news. Next to Normal is an awesome musical. If you like musicals, go see it. It was incredible!

Now, spurred on by my accountability partner, even though we've both been slacking a bit lately we are both getting it back together. I am posting my to-do list for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll see how well I did.

- morning workout
- bring walking shoes to work
- motivational monday posts
- stairs or walking at work
- at work: acetate measurements and microscopy
- write my two week update
- no sugar
- evening workout
- finish next chapter of my story
- eat my 5 fruits/veggies
- blog
- accomplish at least one other item on my short term goals list

Okay, now off to workout and have a small evening snack.

Onward and upward.
