A smile is a curve which can set a lot of things straight.

So, this weekend didn't go exactly to plan. Actually, only one thing really went wrong: chocolate, and lots of it. There is a Hershey store in NYC, yeah, we went there.

I did do a bunch of things well though! I took small bites, I ate slowly, and I never once felt stuffed or really "full". I probably still went past satisfied, but never made it to full. The old me would eat all my food plus everyone else's until I was stuffed, so, improvement!

Today is back on track, back on low carb for 2-3 days, and back to serious exercise. It felt good. I think that's the best part of getting off diet in planned ways, I feel really, really energized to get back on!

My weight is up a few pounds today, but in two days when the water weight is gone, I'll see if I did any actual damage.

Until then, I'm working, smiling, and going to have a low-carb snack of nuts and cottage cheese, although since I just did a tough workout I may add a peach and some blueberries as well!

Congrats to you for getting back on track! You should have fun and each chocolate once in a while. It's getting back on track after that counts! Sounds like you are doing the right stuff!

Bad habits are like a comfortable bed ...

Friday, August 21, 2009

... easy to get into, but hard to get out of.

My bad habit is still chocolate. I only had 3-4 pieces today. It's tough. I really love chocolate. I need to make a sugar free chocolate syrup to add to my desserts. I've tried cold turkey before, by the way, and the cravings get so bad I devour whole chocolate bars. It's not the sweetness either because I only really love dark chocolate, preferably 75-85%.

Today, however, I rocked my on-trackness other than the chocolate. I served my husband spaghetti and me zucchini. I did higher levels on my biking intervals than I ever have before and I did an extra superset of each set of exercises in my turbulence training. I also did a headstand against the wall!

This is good, because the scale has decided to creep back up in the last two days, and so reaching lots of fitness milestones reminds me that it isn't the scale I'm working for.

Ok. This weekend is going to be all eating out, lunch and dinner tomorrow and all meals on Sunday. My goal is tiny bites and smaller portions, but other wise enjoy myself. Tomorrow, I'm also going to aim for low carb, but Sunday I'm going to an Italian place in NYC with Gluten-free pasta ... and I intend to have some!

Boy, you are juggling a lot of temptations and doing pretty well. It is a lot easier when you eat at home and you are figuring out how eating out works into your lifestyle. Good for you. My nightly chocolate treat is Swiss Miss Sugar Free Hot chocolate (yes, even in the summer) since I make it really , I have to sip it slowly so the taste lasts and lasts. Seems to do the trick and is 75 cals.

Good job. I eat 1 sugar free Dark Chocolate Pudding cup, almost every day. They are really good. Sugar Free works cause I have DM type 2 and the pudding cup only has 60 calories in it! They are the best!!

I love chocolate too--but I like my frozen. It makes it easier to control portions, because I only freeze one piece at a time. That way, I can have a bit to satisfy my craving, but I don't have too much. By the time the next piece gets frozen, I've usually forgotten that I wanted more in the first place.

If I may make an amendment to your blog title: Bad habits are like a comfortable bed with a bad mattress. It's hard to get out of bed because the bad mattress doesn't make you feel healthy. Good habits, like a good mattress, make it easier to function throughout the day.

I love chocolate, too. When I want to treat myself, I try to stick to things that add some sort of fiber or protein to the chocolate. I like Luna bars a lot. Sometimes I'll make sugar free instant fudge pudding with skim milk but add 2 Tbsp of cocoa powder to up the chocolate flavor. Also try melting one serving of chocolate over 1/4 cup dry instant oatmeal. Drink a glass of water after you eat it and the fiber from the oatmeal makes you feel full. The oatmeal doesn't interfere much with the chocolate flavor and it takes longer to eat so you prolong the enjoyment.

Check the batteries on your scale. Wow you are putting in the exercise and tracking your food, and your mind set is on healthy living, it will be the new habit soon.

If you follow Jillian (trainer on the Biggest Loser) she admits to chocolate cravings also. She budgets it in each day. I like to spread nutella over bread, ricecakes ..., I have my dark chocolate, nuts, and it feels like alot.
I have also melted dark chocolate chips (they are semi-sweet ) and used that too

One way to curb my chocolate habit was to become a chocolate snob. Only the good chocolate became good enough for me. I went for quality and taste. This way I had to make a special trip to the chocolate shop and was able to bypass the candy at other retail points.

One thing I did learn from the salesperson at the shop was I used to make monthly trips. LOL

I can appreciate this. Bad habits are like a comfortable bed. Also, I LOVE chocolate too, and like you I go for the really dark chocolate. When I allow myself to have a little, I just think about all of the wonderful anti-oxidants that i am consuming! It's so awesome that a little chocolate a day is good for you now!

I love chocolate, too, but my bad habit that I'm trying to work on is ice cream. It sounds like you are making progress! One day at a time, and we will work on conquering these bad habits and replacing them with good ones.
Have a great weekend! NYC sounds like fun!

Think highly of yourself ...

Thursday, August 20, 2009

... because the world takes you at your own estimate.

Dude, that is an awesome quote for the mindset discussion we have going over at Project Mayhem. I try to think highly of myself ... but my tastebuds want to play too sometimes. My goal for this weekend is to enjoy myself with much smaller portion sizes. Make my tastebuds savor and then leave it. It's a new game, going to be tough.

Anyway, it was a good eating/exercising etc. day. I feel good. I'm ready for Friday. It's been a long week. Although, i don't have much happening tomorrow, so I hope I can find enough to do to stay busy.

Ok, enough for now. Off to snack and keep racking up sparkpoints.

The education of a man is never completed until he dies.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm more than half-way through the week ... hooray! This is one long week. However, I seem to be making it a fruitful one in terms of sticking to plan. This is good because this weekend and next week could be nuts since my sister will be in town and we will be going out ... too much I'm sure.

Anyway, my day went overall just fine. I stuck mainly to plan, although my chocolate cravings are up (TOM I'm sure). Maybe my body actually craves the iron in the chocolate ... hmmm ...

I did a Project Mayhem workout tonight, always good, followed up by 10 min of tabatas. I remembered to stretch. Now it is time for a snack.

Just two more days of work! I can make it!

Maybe you are right and there is something in the chocolate that you NEED, not crave. I am that way with beans (perhaps iron also). Go figure. Happy slip-sliding to the weekend.

Dizziness

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Today's entry is short. I have been slightly dizzy all day. Not awful, but annoying. I wondered if it was a low-carb thing, but not so much. I think it may be an anemia related to TOM thing, but I have no read meat around to supply to correct type of iron to test that. If I'm still bad tomorrow, I'll get beef for lunch.

Unfortunately, a little high on cals to test a few of my theories and yet to no avail. Not too bad on cals, should still be at or below maintenance. Also went walking anyway, woohoo!

Sorry about the dizziness, hope it subsides soon. Though definitely know what it feels like....have it every day thanks to an inner ear problem. Hopefully some red meat and some rest will help you feel better. Congrats on the weight loss this week!
