It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.

Today was good, although I seemed hungry earlier than usual today. Fortunately, I had to buy new blueberries after work from our local farm, so I had to walk there and back and snacked on a few blueberries on the way to tide me over until dinner. Dinner was an awesome Shepherd's pie.

I have done my workout tonight and I am happy with today. I also talked myself out of chocolate in the middle of the day today. I thought about having it when I was extra hungry, but then I thought that it wouldn't really make me less hungry, I wouldn't actually feel satisfied, and it wasn't worth breaking my goal not to have chocolate before 7pm all week.

Ok, I'm off for tonight.

Talk yourself out of chocolate. Yea! I can never do that.

If you let your head get too big ...

... it’ll break your neck

I took a picture of me this morning, but had no time to upload it yet. I also took a picture of my 11-paper clip chain near my desk that I will use to count down the pounds over the next two months. I will post, no, really!

Today has so far been another good day. Stuck to my packed food. I have a pot-luck tonight where I will need to tread carefully, but I made the dessert and it is a relatively low-sugar carrot-zucchini cake made with coconut, millet, and tapioca flours. No frosting, just a lemon glaze (not too sweet a glaze either!). Anyway, there should be ~8 people and so I should be able to manage having only 1 piece, and if there is leftover, I will freeze it! I should also be able to portion well at the potluck, I'm good when I want to be.

I really enjoy getting back into it. However, I am experiencing bacterial community change digestive issues since I was off diet too long. Essentially, the bugs in my gut adjusted to consuming quick and easy to digest crap for the last few weeks, and now that I want them to digest real plant food with minimal slimy fats, they are protesting. Fortunately, it tends to be in short bursts, and should be completely gone in about 2 days when the new bacterial community that likes healthy food is in place. Then, when i try to eat junk, it will rebel (and I should listen to it!!). Ok. Enough microbiology talk, I do enough of that all day long.

My first workout in ages last night went well. I'm planning to do something tonight, though what I'm not sure yet, maybe just a walk or some bodyweight circuits.

It is 4:41 now, the potluck is meant to start about 5:30, but I suspect will start late. Do I eat my boiled egg and veggies or wait to see if I can make it? Probably should eat it. Ok, bye now.

I hate it when your stomach complains when you try to change your eating habits and finally start eating right. Those bad guys don't make it easy for the good guys to move in, do they? emoticon. Just make sure to listen to the good guys, because those other guys will just be waiting in the wings to take over again.

Isn't it great to get back to healthy eating - even when it upsets those silly communities. You rock - keep up the good work. emoticon

There are two kinds of man:

Monday, August 03, 2009

the ones who make history and the ones who endure it.

I'm back. My summer went from slightly crazy to seriously hectic to oh my gosh I have way too much to do and no internet access!

Suffice to say, it has not been the healthiest July. My Wii Fit is shouting at me, the scale has crept up, and my belly is not so flat.

However, I am ending all that now and getting back on track. Here's where I'm starting on this Day 1: 160.7 lbs (ouch!). But I am back to basics:

1. eat three healthy meals and three healthy snacks and no more than one piece of dark chocolate daily
2. exercise every morning
3. do quickfire exercises every day
4. get busy, not hungry, I have plenty to do to keep my mind off food, less procrastinating = less eating!
5. Get a workout plan that includes 2-3 strength days, 3 couch to 5K days, and 1-2 bodyweight resistance/cardio days.
6. Do some yoga EVERY DAY! I lost that this summer, and my muscles were sad.

Ok. There's the outline, the plan will come later. And these updates will continue, I promise!

Weekends Away and Getting Back on Track

Friday, June 05, 2009

I have been seriously lacking in the blogging department. I've been crazy busy (except at work, shh!), and so it has been tough to eke out time to blog.

I went to my College Choir Reunion and Reunion Weekend last weekend. Thurs we drove 7.5 hours to Erie and I brought along plenty of healthy snacks! We saw my inlaws for dinner and saw my SIL and my niece (she's sooo cute). On Friday, my DH dropped me at school to see old friends and sing a lot. Then on Sat, we sang some more and put on a concert, which was AWESOME! It is amazing what a choir can do in 2-3 days! On Sunday we went out to breakfast with family and then drove another 7.5 hours back home. The ride home was much more tiring (after three days of not much sleep) and I ended using sugar to stay awake and focused, but it hasn't hurt me much!

Then, my work week has been mostly typical, I put a lot of work into revising a manuscript that was sent in yesterday, and then we worked on planning summer field research. I also had to take the car in for a quick fix one morning and had a doctor's appointment (annual) one morning, so those things cut into my typical schedule.

My eating and workouts have been great this week though, and my weight is down, I'll do my official weigh-in tomorrow morning and then tomorrow is my cheat day. I expect good things out of my picture tomorrow as well. I've also started logging how much water I drink for a challenge, and found out that I am a maniac. I easily drink between 20-25 cups of water a day. That's about a gallon and a half a day! No wonder I dehydrate easily.

Tomorrow we are driving to Jersey to visit friends and family. Saturday is my serious cheat day, and we are going to my favorite soft-serve place: Jersey Freeze (this is its last season I think!). We'll also eat out this weekend. The family (cousins, Grandma, the works!) is going to a Chinese Buffet place on Sunday. That should be an easy place to eat healthy, because with no wheat, I can't eat half of what's there! Salads and veggies for me! Then drive home late Sunday. Whew! My life is too crazy.

Ok, gotta get back to working, although it is 4:50pm on Friday, and I pretty much just want to go home!

Chain Gang

Monday, June 01, 2009

Here is my paper clip chain for the 8-Week battle: 15 lbs to go, in theory. Hanging next to my desk at work since that is the only place lacking in visual motivation for me.
