Calorie Tracking

Week of Dec. 24-30

Food: 13155/7=1879
Exercise: 959//7=137
Deficit: 54
Lowest WI: 120.4

At least there was a deficit, which is not easy during Christmas week. I took a 3-day break from tracking this week and estimated those days at 2500 each. My weight was up just 0.2 pounds this week. Since I gained over Halloween and Thanksgiving, I have to be happy with maintaining over Christmas, and I am. It'll be much easier to get back to my goal weight in Jan/Feb.

Good job over the holidays Ivette! I also maintained without many formal workouts and no tracking the weekend of Christmas. It's so hard during that time, especially with lots of family around! I'm just glad the Christmas season is over and I can get hard core before March (my best friend's wedding!).

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 01, 2007

This year is off to a great start! I ran my 2nd 5K today. It was a small race and I was able to place 5th out of 16 in my age group with a time of 29:19, a new personal best! I shaved 2:48 off my 1st 5K time 6 weeks ago. I passed a lot of people on the 2nd mile and then at the start of the 3rd mile I came up behind a guy wearing a marathon shirt and I just kept running behind him. I was thinking I'd do well running behind him since he's run a marathon and he should pace himself well. But in hindsight I probably should have just passed him because I was pretty comfortable keeping up with him and he didn't really pick up his pace much. So my 3rd mile was the same pace as my 2nd. It should've been faster. I expected my average pace today to be a little faster than usual since it was a race, but besides staying behind that guy, I think mentally I was afraid that if I sped up, I might push too hard and end up one those people bent over on the side of the road. It's strange how much of running is in your head. It's much easier for me to push myself when I'm alone on the track. Anyway, it was a beautiful, sunny day and the race was on a nice, scenic dirt trail, and I was smiling almost the entire time. Now that I've officially run a sub 30 5K I can move on to a 10K.

I am still proud of you. But next time pass him. He is use to running 27 miles (I think). I use to follow someone that I knew would finish the two mile in under 14 minutes, but that was my goal. Next time you can ask around and see if you can find someone that expect to finish in the time you set for yourself. Don't be afraid of being one of those that are bent over. I knew a girl once that would sacrifice her transmission to not come in second. How far in front of you was the winner? If you feel comfortable running by yourself, ignore the other runners. Once you are the leader you want have any choice, so you might as well prepare yourself.

Well, the tree is now gone and the workout equipment is back. I will be much better about my strength and cross training in January than I was this month. At least I got all my runs in. This week was:
3 miles
2 miles 18:24 (9:12/mile)
4 miles
The 3 and 4 mile runs were on the road and with a few hills. The 2 mile run was on the track. I pushed myself on that second mile and ran it in 8:24! It felt so good. I wish I could bottle the feeling I get from running. During my cooldown all I could think of was that I've really been missing out all these years without running. Better late than never I guess.

They have bottled it. But you don't want it that way. It is really best when you work for it. When you work for it, it improves the whole you.

Week of Dec. 17-23

Food: 10417/7=1488
Exercise: 1370/7=195
Deficit: 3203
Lowest WI: 120.2

That deficit should be about .9 lbs of fat burned. My weight only went down .2 lbs this week, but my body fat % is continuing to go down. It was 20% on Saturday. So I think I'm replacing the fat with muscle from all the running and the bit of weight training I've started. Now I'm ready to take down the Christmas tree, bring the workout equipment back in from the garage, and get back to my FIRM DVDs. It's so hard for me to strength train on my own without them.

Saturday, December 23, 2006

I finished off Week 3 of the HH10K training today. This week I only did half the cross & strength training that was scheduled, but I haven't missed a run yet. My runs were:
2.5 miles 23:46 (9:30/mile)
2 miles untimed
4 miles 38:17 (9:34/mile)

You're doing so well! I love the feelling of accomplishment I get from running...not to mention the runner's high. Have you signed up for a race yet? They really add a lot of excitement to training. I just got a new runner's log for January!
