Week of Dec. 10-16

Food: 10707/7=1529
Exercise: 1090/7=155

Based on a daily calorie need of 1750, my calorie deficit this week was 2632 (0.75 pounds). Right on track since I'm aiming for 0.5 - 1.0 pound a week. I weighed in every day and the scale showed a high of 121.4 and a low of 120.4.

This is a strange place to carry on a conversation. I just looked and you don't have a journal. Of coarse Spark wanted to do away with them. I use to run two miles in under fourteen minutes until I was about 40, then I hurt my knee and haven't ran since. So, be sure to do your exercises and keep your knees strong. What is your new running goal? I asked my doctor about running, he said he couldn't keep up with the knee replacements. I told him I thought I was going to have knees like the six million dollar man. He said it doesn't work that way.

Hi Ken! I'm such a number junkie I love 'em both. No seriously, I find it much easier to run than to watch what I eat. I had no idea I'd enjoy it so much. If running alone worked, I'd definitely forget about all the food tracking, but unfortunately I've gotta do both if I want my jeans to fit.

I was going to post on your running entry, but I thought you might not find it. So which do you think is easiest: seconds or ounces? I was reading through the comments on my page and ran across yours. I decided to see how you were doing. It looks like you are renewing. It is good that you cought it early.

I'm getting faster! I ran 3.5 miles today on the track in 33:49. 9:40/mile pace. I don't think I've ever run that far without stopping in my life. My 5K split was 29:57. Last week it was 31:05. Two weeks before that it was 32:07. My goal was to get it under 30 minutes. I did it!!! I can't believe I improved my time so much in just 3 weeks. I love running!
Today's run finished off Week 2 of the 10K training. I got all my workouts in this week except for the cross training on Wednesday.

About that 5 pound weight gain, I've been keeping an eye on the scale since Saturday and it looks like it was just 3 pounds, not 5. Whew! I don't know where that high number came from, but I never saw it again. It did motivate me to start tracking again, so at least something good came out of it. And even better, it looks like the 3 pounds is mostly muscle because today my BF% was down from 22% (where it's been since May) to 21%.

I finally started some strength and cross training on Friday. I was supposed to start Monday. Better late than never. The 10K training is:

Mon. Stretch & strength
Tues. Run
Wed. 30-40 min. cross
Thurs. Run & strength
Fri. Rest
Sat. 40-60 min. cross
Sun. Run

I got my 3 runs in this week, 2.5, 2, and 3.1 miles. They were all at about a 10:00/mile pace. Yesterday I did a little body weight strength training, 30 minutes of yoga, and 30 minutes of cardio with DDR. My chest is sore today from pushups. It feels good to be sore again. It's been way too long.

I weighed myself today and I've gained 5 pounds in the 2 months I've been running. I haven't been weighing myself regularly or counting calories so I'm not terribly surprised, but of course I'm not happy about it either. Fortunately I've been keeping track of my BF% and it's still what it was 2 months ago. So I must have put on both muscle and fat. When I was at this weight last March, my BF was 2% higher. I have to keep telling myself that I'm not back where I was last March. I'm doing fine and at least maintaining my BF%. Anyway, I think I'm going to be more mindful of what I'm eating and start counting calories again.

I ran 2.5m in 24:35 today. That's a 9:50/mile pace! I was on the high school track without the baby jogger. I tried out my new Nike+ipod during the run but it wasn't accurate. It said I ran about 2.75m at around an 8:55/mile. That was right out of the box. I probably just need to calibrate it.
