I finished off week 6 with a 25 minute run pushing the baby jogger on hills. I was pretty slow going up the hills, but I was still jogging. The next 3 runs are all supposed to be 25 minute runs. I'll do one more tomorrow and then I'm going to switch to Hal Higdon's 10K novice training program. It starts off about where I'm at with 3 runs a week, 2.5m, 2m, and 3m. I found a Sparkteam to check in with online and one of my best friends here just started C25K yesterday. Now I have more people to chat with about running which I've needed since all I've wanted to talk about lately is running.

W6D2 done! That was the last day with a walk break. Who would've thought I'd be glad to give those up, but I am!

It was DD's bday today and we got DDR SuperNOVA. Now that is some fun cardio! I just danced 2 songs on it after dinner and I think it would take a really long time to get bored of that. If only I didn't have to take turns with the kids ...

I found out the baby is leaving next Tuesday. It'll be just over 2 months that he was here. The last 2 babies that I took in left right before we went on vacations so the transitions were busy. This one will be different. I probably won't know what to do with myself for the first couple of days after he leaves.

Thanks, Janet!

I spoke too soon about my joints feeling fine. The day after the race my hip/thigh joints on both sides started to feel achy, but it only lasted about a day. I did the W6D1 walk/run today. The run segments were 5/8/5 so I picked up the pace on the 5s. I'm guessing about a 9:30/mile because I was making it about 100 yards past two laps. I'm getting the Nike+ system this week so I'll have a better idea of my pace, especially off the track. It's a reward for completing my first 5K.

I did it! I ran my first 5K. It was so much fun! I can't wait for the next one. I guess I was pretty nervous before the race because I couldn't get my oatmeal down in the morning. We got there only a half an hour before the race, but I still had time to pick up my chip, use the bathroom, and warm up. Starting off in a crowd of over 1000 runners was such an awesome feeling I almost cried. I took one short walk break for a few seconds at the 2 mile mark on a hill, but other than that I ran the whole thing! Mile 3 was tough, but I slowed down my pace, kept my breathing relaxed, and pressed on. Turning the last corner and seeing the finish line was a great feeling. I saw my husband and kids there cheering me on, and that gave me the boost I needed to sprint to the finish line. My goal was 33 minutes and my time was 32:07!! It felt great! With all the excitement I forgot to stretch afterward and my muscles are sore today, but my joints feel fine. I was concerned I might be pushing myself too hard since I still had a month left of training, but I'm so glad I went for it anyway. The 5K on New Years Day will be right after I've completed the C25K program, and for that race I hope to come in under 30 minutes.

    Ivette, I'm so proud of you!! Way to go!!! Your first 5K and in under your time, that's so impressive. You and your family must also be so proud. Good luck in your other races, I'm sure you will do great.

Thanks, Kristi! It's great to hear from you.

I picked up our race bibs yesterday. My kids will be running in the kids fun run. They got cute little t-shirts and they're excited about getting a medal and goodie bag after the race.
I'm at the end of week 5 in my training and my next run is supposed to be a 20 minute run with no walking, but it's going to be the 5K instead, which is about 50% more. My last two walk/runs were on hills pushing the baby jogger, so hopefully tomorrow won't be too hard after that. I have no idea if I'll be able to run the whole thing, but I'm going to try.
