Crabby kids, husband lost his key, I'm tired...It's going to be a wonderful day!

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I had the idea to get up early today and try to get a bunch of stuff done early. Dishes, the bracelet we are making for my son's teacher, laundry and exercise. I did a load of dishes. I had to spend 20 minutes helping my husband find his keys to his work truck, because instead of clipping them to his pants like he usually does he left them lying around somewhere. Turns out he left them on the rocking chair where I had set my notebook and they had slid underneath. (I have a "fitness notebook", exercises I have seen in fitness magazines that looked like they would be effective or fun and I go through every so often and pick out new exercises to try (mostly strength training). My son has been on an hour long whine fest because he refused to go to sleep last night. For three hours we kept telling him to get back in bed, quit talking to us, quit playing with toys, that he would be very tired for school today. He didn't comply until sometime between 9:30 and 10:00 and was up and dressed by 5:45 this morning. Now he is a major grumpy pants. The little one spilled her cereal after whining for 10 min. that she needed a chair to sit on-she has a chair!! What she was going on about who knows! The middle one had us digging through the trash to find the beads for the teachers bracelet. I couldn't find them last night and knew she was the culprit. So she tells us this morning they are in the trash! WHAT!! The beads are on a thread and she was swinging them on her arm and they flew into the trash can!! So, we dug them out and washed them off. I'm starting to feel the grumps coming on myself. Still so much to do today and not a very good start. Wish me luck....I'm going to need it today! OOps gotta go WWIII just broke out between Son and older daughter-sounds like biting was involved!!!???? Great haven't had that problem for about 2 years!

I guess it won't help if I say, "It could be worse"? I feel your frustrations and am glad you have a place to vent here with the rest of us. I think I might just be frustrated enough right now that I would laugh uncontrollably--like a maniac.

Good luck!

Days like this are day where you have to make a choice as to whether you should laugh or cry. I recommend laughing. It makes you feel a whole lot better.

Good luck today! As others have said, exercise is the key, but of course that's always hard when you have so much to do! If I start to feel like "the mood" is coming on because of events I will try and stop and spend 5 mins doing something fun. For example the kids and I will try and sing a song together, like the 12 days of Christmas (we mostly remember it) or play a quick game. The kids always find a way to make me laugh and it renews me! Hope you have a wonderfully productive day and you'll be laughing about your morning by the end.

I so feel you!!! We all have days like that sometimes but just remember there's nothing better to chase away the grumps like a super-intense cardio workout. I think Tae-Bo just might be the answer!!! Kick and punch out some of that frustration!

Days like those are the ones where you just want everyone to get where they are going so you can put the stress into your exercises. Aren't you glad you have that option now?

Take a deep breath and let out all that crabbiness. Maybe you can have some crabby salad for lunch???

Hugs and laughter ar coming from me to you in hopes that your day is on the improve by the time you see this.

Tired today, but inspired too!

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

I need more sleep or something. I drank too, too, much water yesterday in the evening-oooops. It didn't help either that the 2.5 year old climbed into my bed last night and kept kicking me. Yesterday I discovered I had forced 4 inches of my waist and 6 inches off my hips. Inspired by this discovery I decided to try on a pair of swim shorts my sister gave me last year. They are boy style, but still super cute (they are brown (flatering) with a cute hawaiian pattern with mickey mouse in it on the sides). Last year when I tried to put them on I couldn't get them past my super sized hips. This year, about 10 pounds, or so, ago, I tried them on again. They went past the hips, but not around them-I couldn't get them closed!! So, today I dig up the shorts. Lo and behold-THEY FIT!! They closed, they stayed closed, they were a tiny bit tight, but not unreasonably so-in 5 pounds it won't be a problem at all!! So, Friday I am going out and finding a cute swim top to go with my new swim shorts!! Can't wait!! So, so excited that they fit!! Okay, so now I have got to get to work-I still have tons of exercise to do today to make those shorts look even cuter!!

    Congratulations!

I have board shorts and love them. I also have a swimming top that is short sleeved. I like to be covered because I burn so easy and this is what I'm comfortable in. I do wear a regular suit underneath though.

Sunday Slump/Manic Monday!!

Monday, June 08, 2009

Sunday is my worst day! It is my day off and I always take that too far. I eat too much and move too little. Yesterday I got busy sewing and didn't even take that walk I was planning. I had fun sewing though. My daughter is having a Tinkerbell birthday party this weekend and I finished making Pixie skirts (out of tulle) for all the girls and Peter Pan hats out of felt for the boys and I worked on the quilt top for my husband's quilt. Lots of sewing!!Now it is Monday and I am fighting the urge to run around my house like a chicken without her head and try to get everything done-including my workouts!! Gonna hafta work harder on that organization thing and getting things done on a schedule. To mess everything up even more-this week is the last week of school and my son's school has decided that all the kindergarten classes will meet together this week! 6 kindergarten classes all between 18 and 30 students meeting at the same time!! So, my son has to go to early k-garten this week instead of the later session I am used to!! EEeeek!! Now I am half way through my day and have only washed one load of laundry! And that breakfast thing I was working on, you know~actually eating breakfast, out the window today! I ate a can of peaches on the way out the door to take my nephew to school, before picking up my son from school! Hmph, not a good way to start the day. Oh well, hey, the good news is when I measured this morning I found out that 4 inches are missing from my waist and 6 inches from my hips since I started back at Sparkpeople! Not too shabby!

Not too shabby indeed! Congratulations!!! I can't wait for the party this weekend - it is going to be so much fun! I just wish I was thin enough to rock a tinkerbell outfit! :-) Next year...LOL

Hang in there...you'll get it all done just keep on swimmin', keep on swimmin'!

I understand hectic and busy! I have a really hard time balancing everything sometimes. Usually because I take on too much. Not having enough time has always been my excuse for not being in shape. Just curious, have you heard of the FlyLady system of cleaning/organization? I found out about her from SP and have been very slowly incorporating her ideas, but I think they're very useful. There's also a SP team for her too! Well good luck with everything.

Try and fit in 5 mins of exercise somewhere! emoticon

Busy, Busy, Busy, so much too do. Hopefully you will find some time for yourself after everyone else is taking care of. I hope the paty goes well, sounds interesting. You should be able to get on track soon, at least you are aware of what you need to do, keep thinking about it, you'll get it done! Enjoy the party, try not to work to hard!

So tired today.

Saturday, June 06, 2009

Today I seem to have hit a wall! I am soooo tired! I got to bed a little late and I guess it made a bigger difference than I thought it would! I am going to bed early tonight. No cardio today, I feel a little guilty about that, but I will do yoga and strength. I feel like those take a little less energy to complete than a full cardio workout. Usually Sunday is my day off, but I will make up for no cardio today by taking Baxter the Beagle and a kid, or two or three for a walk tomorrow. "See you later". emoticon

Listen to your body and rest! If you planned for Sundays to be a day off from exercise and you're this tired, you need to stick to the plan! Not to say a short fun walk with the dog and kids would be a bad thing!

Some times we need to take a day off and rest. I know that when my body tells me to take off and rest and I don't do it I pay for it for a few days. So now I listen especially if I have been work out for a while for every day.

Why I keep exercising!!

Friday, June 05, 2009

Last night, after all the kiddies were put to bed, and my husband had left for a church meeting, I started my yoga routine (15 minutes of Sun Salutations, a few minutes of tree pose and an couple attempts at standing bow pose). I had not even completed one round of sun salutation, when, here comes the six year old..."Whatcha doing mommy? Oh! Yoga!" He comes and stands right next to me, and starts copying my poses! Well, what am I supposed to do? Stop exercising and put him back in bed? I decide it is okay with me if he stays up for awhile. He keeps doing sun salutation with me and I start telling him the names of the poses and showing him how to improve his poses a little (he is six-it not about perfection, but about safety). He tells me he likes downward facing dog and cobra, but doesn't like forward bend that much. He finally gets bored and starts watching t.v. but comes back whenever something looks promising. He decides that tree pose is easier with his hands out to his side (uhh-yeah!) and that standing bow pose is easy because he is young and "you are more flexible when you are young" (direct quote!). He spaces out for most of the strength training, but jumps back in when I start my abs work. At one point he tells me "Mommy, I think you are looking not as fat"-six year olds have no tact, but it made my day anyway!! Another time he tells me "Eww, mommy you are all wet!" I did work up a good sweat!! So, this is why I keep exercising. I want my kids to know that exercise is good. It feels good, it is good for you and it can be fun! Anytime my kids want to stay and help me exercise it is fine with me. I want my kids to always be comfortable with who they are. I want them to know that you can be fit, no matter what your body type. Matthew is a big kid-tallest in his class and built like a tank! He is not fat, just really big. He gets that stocky build from me-I am NEVER going to look like a super model, I am short and stocky. I once had an old German lady tell me I was "powerfully built"-to her it was a complement. She meant that I had a body type that would let me work the farm and not keel over. She was right, I was skinnier then, but muscular and stocky. My ancestors were pioneers. Some of them crossed oceans, they crossed the plains, they built new cities in the western desert. My genes are STRONG!! I am definately built along the lines of my pioneer ancestors. I will teach my kids that no matter what your body type is, your body can be healthy and strong! I will teach them that food is fuel and too much fuel makes you fat. I will teach them that cardio makes their heart strong and healthy and it burns fuel. I will teach them that Yoga makes your muscles strong and flexible at the same time. I will teach them that strength training makes your muscles work more efficiently, gives them definition and makes them look sexy! Okay, I will save the sexy part for much further down the road. In eigth grade I learned about strength training and loved it. It was strength training that made my calves the sexiest part of my body! I even knew it in eigth grade. I knew that skirts and high heels showed them off to their best advantage. I have not worn high heels for a very long time, but someday that will change! I am saving my best reward for when I reach my final goal-when I get there I am spending a disgusting amount of money on a new pair of shoes! I am paying myself 1 dollar for each pound I lose and even with that money saved up I am going to take a chunk of my husband's check for my new shoes!!
Today I was thinking about taking a day off, I won't, my kids are watching!

That is just soooo cool!! I forget our history sometimes and the fact that our Grandpa was a strong healthy man working at a factory and that our Mom could get out and bust it in the garden...I think back to our hike and the fact that our 65 year old Mom kept right up with us young 'uns! Amazing!!! I kept thinking that there is NO WAY that OUR Grandma would complete a 6.5 mile hike!

Great blog! And look at you - rocking a close to 25 pound lost! Woohoo!! And you're right - that was absolutely a compliment from Matthew!

Way to GO!!! I love your blog Heather, it's amazing! Allowing your son to join in is a fantastic idea and it helps to keep you motivated. I especially like the background history you gave on your ancestors. It's always a good idea to remember where you came from and where you're going. You have a powerful family history! I have a little German myself in my history and it's motivating to know that somewhere inside the two of us there is a powerful, fighting, and passionate force that drives us to our goals. I'm very proud of you!

Keep up the good work! You're doing wonderfully well and congratulations!
