Catching Up!

Monday, February 07, 2011

Ok, so its 2011. I haven't posted in a while but I've got a lot to share.
I'll try not to make this a novel..

Update on the car accident that happened over memorial day weekend (See last blog), The husband who was critical, passed a few months ago. While this is sad, the positive thing is his family is now together in God's home. (mom, kids and dad all passed). You can't get any better care than that.

Update on my boot camp instructor who had brain surgery in May 2010. She's back to teaching classes! YIPPEEE!!!. Her follow ups have all been awesome. We are so glad to have her back and she's in great spirits! God is soo good. We continue to pray for her as she still struggles with sleep and energy.

In her honor, a few of her friends have organized a 5k Run. It's HEAD FOR THE CURE. A not for profit organization that raises awareness on brain cancer and helps raise money for brain cancer research. See their website .

The 5K run for Stevie Patrick will be on May 14th in Frisco, TX. All money goes to brain cancer research and M.D. Anderson to help those who need the best treatment and need a little extra help financially.

Sites for Stevie:

Registration is open! Hope to see you all there! :)

I'm doing ok. My eating habits have been a little sour over the last few months but I am getting bak on track slowly and you will see me at the Paddy Dash in Frisco in March, the Warrior Dash in Texas in April and the Head For the Cure run in May.. :)

Have an incredibly blessed week!

~ Carolyn (I'm on the committee for this and I've got a thumbs up to post this image)

Wow- it sounds like many things have "wrapped up" so to speak, and have allowed you to find avenues to get other people involved in good causes. That is fantastic!
Glad you are posting and sharing with us.
Take care,

Victories and Sadness

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

Fell off the wagon this weekend.
Had a drink, ate more than normal, not necessarily unhealthily..... and not that I'm against drinking but I had set a goal for myself not to drink until my 40th bday in October.
Life has dealt a bad hand these last few weeks.
Lost a co-worker to a tragic, tragic accident this memorial day weekend. Her kids were killed as well. Her husband is critical.

On a positive note! - my boot camp instructor is recovering well from brain surgery. She's been release from the surgeon and is now in the hands of the oncologist and is awaiting word on treatment plan for the remaining 1% of the tumor. She is now able to drive and work out a little bit (power walk, light weights, etc). Her surgeon says she's in the top 10% to make a full recovery on this cancer! YES!!! God is SOOOOO AWESOME! Thank you for your prayers.
Please continue to pray for her through her chemo and radiation that things will go smoothly.

Other than the above, I'm doing good, I'm back on track, and ready to start losing the few more pounds I need to hit goal.
I signed up for the June 12 Susan Komen North Texas Race for the Cure... 5K... :)

Have a great Hump Day!

What a praise report for Stevie, another prayer answered! Thank you Jesus!

The accident was tragic - were they in the SUV or Corolla? Wow what a mess. Just because a truck rearended the SUV. Just goes to show you, you have to be ready to meet your Maker at any time, any day, any hour - your ticket could be punched. Gotta live right and keep short accounts and love well.

Accidents like that are hard to get your mind around. Prayers for you and all who are relatives/friends with the family. I really like your "back on track" attitude!
That is going to make all the difference! Today is a new day, make it a good one!

It's been a rough couple of weeks..

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

First let me apologize to all of you who have been following my food logs. I haven't been keeping up with them like I have in the past.
The last couple of weeks have been challenging.

First off, I was in fear that my 11 year old Husky was going to have to be put down or given away due to a disgruntled (jealous) neighbor who informed animal control that I had a wolf hybrid. Hybrids are not allowed in the city and I was not aware of this.
Well, that situation was remedied thanks to some very knowledgable hybrid rescue organizations who informed me that I in fact DID NOT have a wolf hybrid. Thank GOD.
So I can keep my dog. That ordeal stressed me out for about a week and a half.

Then the even more blowing news ...
My Boot Camp Instructor and Mentor was diagnosed with a malignant cancerous brain tumor on Saturday. She's at MD Anderson in Houston going through many tests and will have surgery on Monday for this aggressive tumor. She has been my motivator and inspiration for all my successes in my weight loss endeavors.

She's only 29. She's a strong Christian girl and has always been a fabulous witness to those around her. Her boot campers love her dearly and we're all in agreement that she's gonna kick this tumor in the butt just like she does us at camp. :)

I always say, God never allows more than we can handle, and sometimes He gives the heavier loads to those who are stronger to handle them.... :) I just made that up.. but I think it's so true..

The tumor is larger than a golf ball. They are shooting to remove 98% and treat the remainder with chemo and radiation.

Your prayers are appreciated.

So Sad to hear. Now you just need something to focus on. I have a project that will keep you busy.... keep me in check. I have fallen off the wagon and I know now is not the time with vacation only three days away. I don't want to have the "I;ll start Monday" attitude cause that never worked in the past, why would it now.

Keep your chin up.

5'8" - what's a healthy weight, really?

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

So here I am, on my journey to my goal of 150lbs and I am currently over halfway to my goal from where I started. I am feeling good and looking much better and when I tell people that I still have 44 lbs to lose, I always hear the same thing.... "GASP"! They can't believe I still have that much to lose. They say "you'll be anorexic"!
Really now, that's what the powers that be who make the charts say I should be and that's the MIDWAY mark. I have a medium frame and I'm tall. I realize most of me at this point is probably muscle (I guess?). I'm 194 right now and I'm in a 14. at 150 I'll be in a 10?
I really want to be that weight (my high school weight) but at the same time, I don't want to look sickly and it kind of bothers me when I see the notes that are dubbed by health professionals that state if I weigh more I'm considered "overweight".. Hmmmm..

Odd it is..

I too can relate. I have lost 96lbs so far and when I tell people I still want to lose another 20ish, they cannot believe it. They tell me that I cant afford to lose anymore weight. Well, I can tell ya, I do! I am 5'7" and am at 175. I would love to be between 155 and 160. That is listed as "Normal" and I would like to be normal for once in my life.
Do what YOU want to do. Once you get to your goal, then worry if you look too thin.
You look great, Keep up the terrific work :)

    Hello there ~

I can very much relate to the reactions of others! I am 5' 9.5" and when people ask me how much I am wanting to lose...they freak out...and are like, you don't need to lose that much, blah, blah, blah!

I've come to realize...when it comes to the height/weight isn't realistic! For example, we play on the Wii with all the kids' and we did the fitness Hubby is 6' 2" and 240 pounds....and it says he is Very Obese (the man has a 34 inch waste, by no means is he obese)....LOL....then when he does the strength and fitness testing that he is an expert!

I don't know that I will EVER set an exact weight...because it isn't practical...our bodies fluctuate...regardless. So, ultimately when I am happy with where I am at...I will keep a "range" 4-6 pound differential...or something like that!

Thanks for the great blog!

Hi, looks like we have the same situation. People can't believe I weigh 190 and it's said on Sparkpeople that at 5'8 I should be weighing 150...I think that would be nice but that it would be hard to attain without losing some muscle or I would look skinny...I prefer thinking about being at 160 to see if i'm comfortable first.

Anyway, hope we chat soon, we seem on the same weight goal path.
