Thunder

Sunday, July 01, 2012

This morning when I woke up there were clouds but they cleared away and it got really hot again. Until about 10pm Lots of electrical activity and thunder. My dog is off hiding. I noticed that the temps are going to be going down this week but there is supposed to be electrical storms all this next week. So I'll be looking at video's instead of my usual walks I think.

I had to put my dog down in March, but as he got older I noticed he got more and more afraid of storms and fireworks. I guess their hearing changes as they get older? This will be my first 4th of July without having to worry about my dog freaking out and even though I miss him I don't miss that! They're just inconsolable and I always felt so bad for him!

Those lightning storms are scary, esp when the fire danger is so high in so much of the country :( Stay safe! The temps aren't going to be much cooler here this week, I'm thinking it is a good time to do a yoga video that I hadn't gotten the chance to do yet. Have fun with your videos!

The weather has been crazy this week. Good job not letting it get you down! I love indoor cardio, there are so many posibilities! Really, you don't even need any equipment. I hope you have a great week. We have a burn ban here, and fireworks are even restricted due to the drought conditions, so it looks like we will be grilling and being thankful for our country without them this year. Have a great one!

Menu Planning

Saturday, June 30, 2012

I have decided that when menu planning it is easier to come up with a general plan than it is to come up with a more specific plan. I've been using Allrecipes.com for menu planning because 1) I already had a "subscription" to use their menu planner. 2) they list the nutrition for most recipes. 3) allows me to change the servings. 4) creates a shopping list. Plus they have been including recipes from the kitchens of name brands like Campbells. So After laboring I don't know how long in finding similar recipes to the ones I already make that are relatively low cal I've come up with a week of main dishes. Now I'm taking a break. I'll add sides and the other meals to it eventually but not tonight.

I know what you mean about it being easier to work on a "general" plan than being super specific. I find that if I go to the store with several meal ideas, then the night before I can pick and choose the specifics for what I want the next day.

I LOVE allrecipes :) Any time I need something like what can I substitute for X or when I want to make a specific dish, I can go look and find like 10 different versions and see what works best. Many times I will read through a bunch of different variations and then make up my own.

Sorry I missed this blog yesterday. sounds like a lot of work is going into this, but its really a great thing to do. Once you have the initial planning done you can use what you have to mix and match for later weeks. Then you just add on here and there if you want. Hope its all working out for you.

Cranky

Saturday, June 30, 2012

I have decided that it is true, when I don't get enough food or water or when the temperature is too hot that I get CRANKY! and yell when I shouldn't so it's an incentive to do better- because who wants to yell at their family. I better apologize.

I get cranky when I'm too tired. And really become an irrational person. I usually apologize in advance once I realize what state I am in to people. CHUG CHUG CHUG some H2o my friend!

The Plan

Friday, June 29, 2012

Well Last night the kiddos and I sat down and came up with a basic dinner plan for the next month (I shop just once a month 'cause the nearest grocery store is at least 35 mins away)(Saves on Gas). I've been watching the Food Nanny on BYU TV.com and so borrowed the idea of theme nights. So we've got Monday- Mexican, Tuesday- Italian, Wednesday, Veggie/Seafood, Thursday- Chinese, Friday -Comfort Foods, Saturday- American / Grill, Sunday- Crock pot Dishes.
Anyway now I just need to figure out how to do those dishes low cal, and which sides to put with them. Also I still need to plan out lunches, breakfasts and snacks. But its a start and I've got a good week before I go to the store so I can look at some recipes on the site. So today's goal is to find low cal versions of some of our favorite recipes.

Hope you can figure it out! Revamping your favorite things is a great idea. There is no way I could be doing what I'm doing if i had to give up my favorite things. I'm a picky eater in some ways.

That's awesome! I keep thinking of doing a monthly menu but never seem to do it. Good job!

Have you looked at skinnytaste.com? She has some really good recipes there, I'd check it out. Also if you look at SP recipes, you can sort by cuisine.

LAZY DAY

Thursday, June 28, 2012

I'm having a lazy day, well at least till the temperature drops (hopefully by 8pm) Then I will work out and do my strength exercises and cardio. I've been bad about food today, nothing sound appetizing so I haven't eaten hardly anything and it's almost dinner time so much for having an even day. I need to plan better which is what I've been telling everyone so tonight I'm gonna sit down with the kiddos and make a plan. I'll let you know what we come up with tomorrow.

Planning ahead definitely makes the difference. Relying on whims is a huge mistake. I hope you can get it figured out. Cant wait to see your successes.
