Dry

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

It has been very dry this summer. I know others of you are experiencing similar things. Kentucky usually has enough rain though that we typically don't need to water the gardens, and this summer people will have to. I think it's been about a month since our last rain.

I'm on target today, I've been drinking my water and I expect I'll be using the johnette all day. I need to finish some trim work today and putting together some bookcases (including painting the back panel). I might even be able to UN-PACK my office! (I still have a lot of things in boxes).

I know someone asked if I was still remodeling, so I'll put up my to done, and to do lists. I think you guys are lucky to have missed out on some of my big remodeling projects. What I've accomplished with lots of help so far:
A new front porch
new flooring on the downstairs
A lot of drywalling, taping, mudding and painting in various rooms
New plumbing downstairs
Installed the kitchen sink
Install a new counter top
Add subfloor and flooring to the downstairs bathroom
Installing a shower in the downstairs bathroom
Installing a toilet in the downstairs bathoom
Insulating the bathroom
Build a completely new set of stairs
Divide a bedroom into two with a new wall
Add a new door way to the new bedroom
Divide or Re route wiring so that each room has it's own light fixture
Add new doors to all bedrooms
Add a new roof

Still to do:
Add a wood burning stove
Upstairs Bathroom
Carpeting upstairs
A lot more painting (and a little mudding, and taping)
A little more insulating and drywall
Some closets, and/ or cubbies for under the eves in certain rooms
Shelving
Kitchen Cabinets (Installing, Painting)
Kitchen Built-in
Some Patch work
installing the microwave (Possibly a new outlet)
Installing the dishwasher (new plumbing) may do a disposal at the same time.
Lots of Trim work, around every door and window
Baseboards in every room
Adding porch rails
Possibly enclosing the back porch (This would be something to consider if I got the house resided- Down the road)

This doesn't even touch the barn and landscaping that I need to do too but as I tell people I can only do a little at a time, which is also how I look at the weight loss. I can only do a little at a time.

Seems everywhere is either too dry or too wet right now. Why can't we all share?!?

I bought a house in 2008 and worked on it nearly every day (or at least every weekend) for close to two years. It was hard work, but it was fun too. It is really satisfying to see the fruits of your labor. I still have a lot to do, but I ran out of money so the rest of the projects are in the planning stage indefinitely lol UNLIKE my weight loss. That is one project I'm able to work on that doesn't cost as much as remodeling!

great perspective!!! I love remodeling projects but I HATE how the little stuff gets put off and pretty much never gets done. 1 son's room is only 1/2 painted (waiting 8 years), baseboards & window frames in 1 daughter's room (waiting 4 yrs), trims & touches in 2nd son's room (only since last summer), finishing trim in upstairs bathroom (waiting 9 years & now really just needs a re-do) & we won't talk about the semi-finished attic/master suite!!!!

Great way to connect that with the healthy lifestyle frame of mind!!!!

Procrastination

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

I didn't do so hot this last weekend, I didn't get my exercise in that I should have, and yesterday I was pushing the top of my calories, but low on carbs and protein that means high on fat. So I kinda feel like I was stalling. I'm not sure why I allowed that to happen. I think it's because I'm afraid of the other things going on in my life. I'm on a REALLY tight budget and afraid to even pay my bills and haven't yet. Maybe if I just get all of the stuff I've been procrastinating done it will help me with facing my health.

I've been painting today, and I need to call the roofer and tell him to go ahead with putting on the new roof. So in addition to my food and exercise I will finish the things I've been putting off.

Everything will work out. I'm a bad procrastinator and when I just sit down and do them it works out fine but getting started is the hard part. This is a lesson I am finally figuring out myself. It helps to destress if you declutter.

Good for you to sit down and just do them, even if you were a little fearful. I've been there and it's better in the end to face the music. I am queen of burying my head in the sand, but that's one of the biggest things I am working on this year. You will get there with the exercise. Just reflect on the last few days, feel what you need to feel, and then onward and upward! :) You are doing great!!

Well I sat down and paid the bills today and I feel a little better. I think I might need to make a list of all of the little things I'm avoiding and just get them all done. I know I can't do everything in one day but if I'm making progress at least I can be happy about that. 1 more month till school starts again. Hoping I'm working the first week of school!

Being a procrastinator who is struggling with finances myself I feel like I can relate to what you're feeling. I think a lot of times we don't realize how much all the parts of our lives really affect the big picture. Not long ago I was holding off on paying one of my bills because it came at an inconvenient time (when a lot of other stuff was due) and even though I wasn't stressing about it (I figure if the money isn't there, it isn't there and stressing about it isn't going to help anything. I'd send it in when the money was there), when I sent that payment in, I felt like this huge burden had been lifted from my shoulders. I simply didn't realize how much it was weighing on me that I hadn't been able to pay it on time.

I know you didn't say you were behind in your bills, just saying that I understand how much the different parts of our life can cause us to feel "off".

OHH!!! I am a huge procrastinator...but honestly, lately I have really started to make lists, make calls, and it has helped so much for me mentally as well as physically. Don't be down on yourself for not exercising, just try doing one thing! I know you can do it!

Quiet

Monday, June 25, 2012

Today has been an interesting day for me. I told my kids that they have to clean the barn 9 to 5 today. (they can come in to get water, bathroom breaks, lunch, ect...) So it's work. They have been increasingly rude to each other (yelling, names, and even throwing things). So in the spirit of getting them to appreciate each other more they have to work together to clean out the barn. I expect this to take a whole month. I expect them to be tired at the end of the day, and I hope that they will at least get along by the end of the month.
I am probably gonna be high on carbs today, maybe I can think of something lower in carbs for dinner. I am going to try to paint some more today and I am going to be visiting a friend in the evening but hope I'll be back before it's too late for my usual walk otherwise I'll have to pull out a video!

My daughter is back from Camp!

Saturday, June 23, 2012

My daughter is back from camp. She had a great time. I was however really bad today and we got taco bell on the way home, I haven't logged it yet so I'm not sure exactly how bad I was but I feel like I caved. I got one of the meals- I couldn't eat the whole "meal" so I saved probably close to half for lunch later. And I had a Huge (they call it a large) Soda. Good thing it was mostly ice. So I guess I better face the music, and start tracking. Oh all the extra walking and stuff I'll need to do...

As long as you hit the reset button now instead of later all is well! And a worked in reward now and then is ok, but only if its accounted for and planned. Discovered the hard way over the last 2 weeks that some of my favorite out to eat meals are over 2k calories. So now I am researching each restaurant before I go there and planning ahead. Makes those bad days not so bad.

Blah

Friday, June 22, 2012

I think today is one of those days that you just want to say blah to. I need to get my calories up, I can literally feel the lack of energy because I haven't been giving myself enough energy, and I need to lower the fat and add more fruits and veggies. It's amazing how many veggies you can eat and still have to find more calories. I can't imagine trying to live on just veggies. I think about my neighbors cows and how they are grazing all day, and no wonder it's hard to get calories from veggies. Okay, so I'm guessing that might be why we struggle so much with veggies. I'm realizing how big a veggie garden I'm gonna need next year. I think I'm gonna go eat some mixed tropical fruits instead.

    Liz,
I'm totally jealous that there is a GUY at your work that COOKS HEALTHY. Oh, it's probably not as cool as I'm picturing but yeah, I'm jealous!

Veggies are where I struggle once in a while too, but at work the guy who cooks is very health conscious (thank heaven), and mixes the veggies into different dishes. I get more veggies at work than I do at home. And eating healthy there is a good example for the clients I work for.

Hey thanks for just letting me rant today, it's one of my dreams to have a veggie garden that I can actually get enough produce from to last me a whole year. This year is the remodeling, next year, if I'm still kicking and screaming (which is extremely likely) I'll start a small garden and "grow it" from there. Haha, got get those smiles in where you can! Grow it- Ha I crack myself up!

Maybe look at adding a high quality complete protein to your veggies when you can. Something like Quinoa that is yummy, easy to cook and goes great with a lot of things.

Anything that packs a vitamin and mineral punch with good carbs is your friend and will give you an energy boost.

I was struggling with feeling really tired and sluggish all the time and my doctor told me that even when someone's thyroid numbers are in the "acceptable" range, if they start getting towards the low end of the spectrum the person can start feeling symptoms just like someone else who has been diagnosed with hypothyroid. She gave me the option of going on a thyroid medication and wow, what a difference! I can totally feel when I've taken my meds and when I haven't. Just something to consider if you haven't already :)

I hate those blah days!

I am having the same problem - not enough calories. But at least I am so exhausted at the end of the day I can actually fall asleep.

A veggie garden is a must if your living on a budget - they are getting so expensive. And I prefer walking out to the garden to get food versus getting DRESSED and going to the store! Wow. I just made myself sound REALLY LAZY!
