It's a new year!

Wednesday, January 02, 2013

My first day in the new year was really quiet. No more guests, or friends visiting, the kids were all zoned out playing on the computers- Me Too getting the challenge started. I also took down the tree, though I still have out door lights to put away today.
Today at the last minute I got a subbing job, I was really surprised because school had already started by the time I got the call.
On the remodel- Essentially the office and the living rooms are done. Next on my hit list is the Kitchen. I just need to finish painting in there, and put up the blinds. The built in is gonna have to wait for a while. As are the shelves. I'll probably move on to the bath room before I finish the kitchen. Though I have to admit the kitchen looks pretty good with the changes I've already gotten done.
I'm ready to get my food tracked and work outs in. A new year means good things!

Ending the Year Stronger

Friday, December 21, 2012

I have to say that I've been worried a little about the start of next year. Usually I am super excited for the fresh start that a New Year brings. I have gotten that back but let me tell you why I was a little worried.

Back in October 2012, I took on the commitment to help run the Quarterly Challenge. Before that Angie was the only active leader on the team. So I volunteered to help. I took on the Quarterly Challenge. I knew it was going to be a lot of work but I didn't anticipate how much time it would really consume. In December I realized that I was struggling, and while looking forward to the next challenge wasn't sure I'd be able to do it.

In my personal life, my grandfather passed away last month and daugther started dating and I've been working, and I'm still working on my house and teaching a Sunday School Class. So I've been busy.

Angie and I knew it was time to recruit more help. I am so pleased to have the addition of four more leaders. That means (hopefully) that they will never feel as Angie and I did -OVERWHELMED! I was on a crash course landing for the end of the year. But these new leaders have given me some lift and maybe I won't be neglecting my Spark Friends as much because of these wonderful ladies!

I am ending the year stronger. I have met a commitment. I have asked for help, and now I know that next year is going to be a BLAST! Watch out 2013 -I'm coming in HOT!

Personally, I know I'm thrilled to be able to help. The team has been wonderful for me, and being able to contribute more is great.

I'm glad you're able to end the year on a good note! If there is every any need for me to help you pick up some more slack, by all means, let me know! :)

Surprise!

Saturday, October 27, 2012

I had a pleasant surprise today. I had three of the men from my church over to help me with some of my kitchen remodel projects. But wait I'm getting ahead of myself here. They originally just came over to help get some pipes insulated, but they said while they were here they would help me get my dishwasher hooked up fix my counter so that it was flush to the wall and attach all of it, fix the faucet so that the hot and cold are on the correct sides, and hang a cabinet and recess some drawers and fix a door jam. I'm probably forgetting stuff but I couldn't have gotten all of that work done so quickly and quite frankly I was intimidated by some of it. They did a wonderful thing for me I am truly grateful!

House is Lookin' Good

Thursday, October 18, 2012

On the inside my house is starting to look good. Today I'm putting up yet another shelving unit. and cleaning my room. Maybe hanging some curtains.

Yesterday I got my heating system installed. SO excited about it. The heaters are working very well and I am sure it will result in a happier family this winter. I have installed a total of 3 book cases in the office and it wasn't enough, so up goes #4 today. So excited to see the office and the living room almost done. In the living room I'm removing the recliner to my room once I make a new home for it. In the end the spaces should have a great feeling.

I can't tell you what a relief it is to just get those spaces done. I feel like I wouldn't be completely embarrassed anymore if someone came over.

This has gotten me thinking about myself, because I like to use my house as a metaphor for me (which is so appropriate). When I first got here to KY. I had people making suggestions about how to move forward on the house still do. My plans went out the window. I had lost my center, I was frantic and frankly a mess. Now I am finding some of that peace again.

I've realized that while my house was in chaos so was I. As I start to re-establish some order in my home, I can do that in my life too. I'm gonna make a new monthly budget, I'm gonna get back to my goals of learning more about my not so new, "new" area. Doing family activities on the weekend. Where I am today is where I wanted to be last year. It just took me longer to get here. It will be that way with my weight loss too. I know I'll get there. it just may take me longer to get there.

emoticon I feel the same way......since having my life turned upside down and trying to get re-established back in Canada, I noticed that when my house was not organized, my life way as mess. Last fall I started organizing, cleaning every nook and cranny, and once I started to get things how I wanted in the house I started to feel happier and more at home in my house which lead to things in life settling down some. I am still working on things too, just like you, but we can do it!!!!!!

More house work

Tuesday, October 09, 2012

I have been doing more bits and pieces on my house. I've got a 3rd bookcase up and I'm really glad too. I expect I'll get it all filled up pretty quick. I'm also adding propane to the house for the winter. I've gotta get the place spruced up for the installation. Right now we've got blankets piled high, and are ready for the new heating system. It's harder to get work done while I'm working. I can only get so much done after school. Well that's the update.

    Kelly,

Sounds like you are going to have a really nice house. It might take you a little while, but just like weight loss...it is a journey. Have a nice Thursday!
