Endocrinologist

Wednesday, January 25, 2012

Heard back from my endo. They put me back on the thyroid medicine (different dosage) and she noticed I had a vitamin D deficiency, which she said could account for a lot of my fatigue. I dont absorb Vitamin D as much as I should. Simple enough solution is to add vitamin D rich foods and take extra vitamin D. We will see how this helps! : )

I hope it works out for you. I have resulted to gummie one a day & my hair & nails are growing like mad! I don`t recommend them for everyone but ask the doctor about them. For me its the absorption issue & I wear mine on my face with acne.

God bless & enjoy everyday!

Finally!

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I'm extremely excited to finally have an appointment with an endocrinoligist. After years of telling my doctor that synthroid was not helping my symptoms, and gaining 4-5 pounds a year despite a healthy diet and exercise, I feel hopeful again that someone can help me start to feel better.
My doctor would not change my medication because my numbers looked good. She did increase it once, and while I felt slightly better, she reduced it again 6 weeks later because my numbers were off.
This year I'm taking control of my own medical care and not just doing what one doctor tells me to do. I'm looking forward to the day I go to sleep and wake up actually feeling awake and rested. Its been too long!

Tired of being tired

Friday, January 06, 2012

After a LONG break from SparkPeople, I find myself motivated again.
I went off of my thyroid medication a few days ago. People are telling me this is a bad idea, but I really don't care.
After years of being sluggish, gaining about 7 pounds a year, and feeling crappy I think I just snapped. I have asked my doctor for years if I could please try a different form of thyroid medication, to which she always says "Your numbers are OK". Im a PERSON not a NUMBER. She should listen to how I feel.
So I refused to keep going in for bloodwork and quit taking it.
Ive been reading about adding certain foods to my diet to help boost thyroid function, etc and am going to give it a shot. If I start feeling any worse, I will find a new doctor.
My asthma is finally under control and I havent used my nebulizer in about a month, so I am feeling good right now. : )

I'm hypothyroid. I started feeling tired and had to up my
Synthroid. Feeling a bit less tired now,so I know what you're saying. Maybe you need to see a diff dr. Did he/she also check your pituitary hormone levels? My daughter's dr kept telling her that her thyroid levels were "normal",but she was always exhausted. I found a new endocrinologist for her and sure enough she was found to have a benign pituitary tumor.

Stopping thyroid meds is not a good idea at all. TSH levels need to be on the lower end of the "normal" scale. My levels were still in the "normal" range, but at the higher end. My doctor listened to me and increased my meds. Have your dr try raising your meds to the next level and check you in 3 weeks to see if there is a difference in how you feel.

A different diet,no matter how healthy, isn't going to change the need for thyroid medication. The thyroid gland is a very important gland that produces hormones necessary for many body functions.

Good luck to you. Hope you will feel better.
