10 years of no smoking!

Saturday, November 03, 2012

November 3, 2002 was the first day of my journey to live without smoking. It was very difficult at first, but as each day passed it became just a little easier. I had adopted the attitude of AA, but instead of alcohol, I said cigarettes. One cigarette is not an option and as each day passed, it became so ingrained into my thinking that it really is only a blip on the radar if I even think about it now.

Perhaps I need to re-think my approach to my eating. I have been having a difficult time and keep doing stuff I don't want to do. Eat out, eat unhealthy. I guess I haven't given it much thought until writing this down. So what will my mantra be now? I will sleep on it and have something my morning!

It is great that you were ever able to give up smoking--it's such a strong addiction. My sister smokes. If it were easy to quit, she would be smoke-free. If it were easy to lose weight, we'd all be svelte too. If the AA attitude works for you, you might consider a 12-step program for overeating. I read a book called Angry Fat Girls by Frances Kuffel, and she described the 12-step approach to weight management. It's pretty strict!

Bucket List

Friday, November 02, 2012

Think about 3 things that are on your bucket list. What goal would you go for if anything was possible? I would love to travel. I am so excited to go to Korea in December and get my first stamp in my passport (which I just applied for this summer). I am going for my son's wedding, but from the photos he has taken, it is beautiful. There are so many places I want to see and family I want to visit!

What can you do to feel like that in your life today? Sometimes we just have to go for it. Plan the next trip and just do it rather than spend all of our time working.

I have had the privilege and luck to have traveled a little bit in the past 15 years. I would like to travel more though, so getting to a comfortable size to sit on an airplane is on my goals list. I can do it at this size, but it would be better to be in ONE-derland! You are so lucky to be going to Korea. My husband prefers Europe, but lately he's been open to the idea of LIVING in a place like Korea or the Middle East! My bucket travel list would include traveling back to the towns where my dad was stationed in the Navy and we lived as a child: Brindisi, Italy, and Bremerhaven, Germany, and maybe even Yokohama, Japan, where I was born.

Mine would be to travel the lighthouse circuit in the US. But I know that isn't as important as visiting with my family, so all my vacations are spent visiting my grandchildren and that's the most important thing on my bucket list.

Awesome day!

Thursday, November 01, 2012

First to respond to those that posted to my last blog. I love the ideas! The ring is definitely a goal for me, being able to put mine on. Under 40" waist and towel day! Excellent!

More overtime today but off by 9 am, back to regular shift tomorrow. But I am talking about today. After work, conversed with my health coach, went into town to vote early and then picked up a couple of things for the house. I then received my utility bill and it was less than 1/2 of what I used to pay for the same house, different town! Lovin it!

My husband made me my favorite meal of stir fry for dinner. I also did 25 minutes walking around my new neighborhood.

I am grateful for what I have today and prayers to those affected by Sandy!

If weight wasn't determined by a number

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Question posed today. What would my ideal weight be if it wasn't determined by a number? For me it would be:
1. How do my clothes fit?
2. Am I reducing my medication?
3. Can I walk further and faster with each passing day?
4. Do I have more energy?

Perhaps I need to keep this in mind more often when the scale really doesn't reflect what I was hoping for.

Today was a good day. I ran some errands, worked some OT, had a nap and went grocery shopping for some healthy food. My husband made a wonderful meal tonight and it was awesome to work together to do it. I also did some more work in my book.

I am grateful for today and its many blessing. I look forward to tomorrow when I can spend more time at home.

My ideal weight would be determined by the fact that I'm wearing clothes from the regular department of a store and that they don't look tight, and aren't the largest size in the selection. I would less flab to the point that I can feel it when I sit in an airplane seat--not packed in. My wedding ring would slip easily off my finger, my shoes would not be as tight. And I'm making progress too! My ring is looser--still won't come off. My workout shoes have gotten more comfortable--is it that they are broken in or that my feet aren't as fat?

I enjoyed your comments. The scale is only part of the story. Indeed how you feel, how your clothes fit are important. For me it's more important that my waist is below 40 inches than what the scale says. That's a healthy level for a someone like me. My advice would be to never ever give up and to learn to enjoy the journey.

If I ask myself that question one of my first answers would be I want to be able to wrap a regualar size bath towel around me like you see on ads. Your' sound much better but I still want my towel day!

Glad to read of your wonderful day! You have to set your limits in life and your weight! I felt comfortable at a certain weight and this is my goal.

Wishing...

Monday, October 29, 2012

I decided to go back and read "The Spark" again and in doing so, I read how we respond to wishes. When decided to make my wish list, I wrote down things I "thought" I might be able to accomplish. In reality, why don't we wish like we are kids? What is the worst that could happen? At the very least we start laying the groundwork for what we really want and even though we may not get that, we most likely will get more than we ever thought possible. I plan to start wishing like a kid again!

On to my program. I slept in this morning, but have done 30 minutes on my treadmill in 10 minute increments during my 15 minute breaks. If I get any in after work and before my meeting tonight, awesome. If not, I did get 30 minutes in which is already fantastic!

Sounds like Cod and Couscous for supper tonight and an early bedtime. I am doing overtime on all three of my days off from 6 am to 9 am. I figure it is an excuse to get out of bed and I will accomplish more on my day off if I start off the day working! Not to mention OT pay! Oh yes! Gonna love my next check.

1st Wish: Major lottery win! I will keep you posted...
