Virtual Challenge At Work -- Day 1

Monday, February 11, 2013

Today is the first day of our Virtual Workout A Day Challenge at work. It is being run on our company's social media site and I am excited to participate. If you would like to join from a far, the Challenge lasts for six weeks starting February 11, 2013.

Before you begin take time to measure yourself so you can see what improves in six weeks. The Challenge suggests measuring your Abdomen, Waist, Hips, Thigh, Calf and Arm. You also take your initial weight and then you will weigh in once more when the Challenge concludes. You also need to see how many push-ups you can do without stopping and then how many sit-ups you can do without pausing. Write all of these down so you can see your improvement in six weeks.

So the concept is each day you are given four different exercises that make up one round. You try to do "the round" as many times as you can possibly do in 30 minutes. Every exercise is either with your own body weight or weights of 3-10 lbs.

Today's "round" consists of:

10 Squats
10 Push - Ups
10 Shoulder Press
10 Burpees

See how many rounds you can do in 30 minutes and let me know! I would love to see how many people can do so I know if I need to push myself more or more. I'll do my best to post each day's workout here if anyone would like to join :) It is always nice to have a workout buddy! Happy working out!

It's Not The Size Of The Dog In The Fight; It's The Size Of The Fight In The Dog

Sunday, January 06, 2013

This entry is just for me. The quote triggers a moment in my life that pushes me to meet my goals. And I will --- just had my "ah-ha moment" at 2:55 AM. Time to get to bed so I can get to the gym bright and early. 2013 is the year I beat this weight beast.

I need to make a poster or sign with this image so I can always look at it and have strength during the day.

What motivates you? Blog about it, so you can see your motivation and goals spelled out...hopefully it will help you achieve what seems impossible right now. Go for gold! Prove your doubters wrong!

Even My Dreams Are Telling Me To Get Back To The Gym!

Thursday, January 03, 2013

Yesterday was my first day back in the gym since, well since the new year started (let's just go with that). It felt so great to be running and walking on the treadmill! I got a new bright green workout top on sale at Old Navy, which was fun to coordinate and was excited to get to my 2013 Revolution plan.

So we all have reason's for going to the gym...hopefully down the line I will be able to simply say, for my health, but right now I'm still bringing in outside events. On the event board this year is my co-workers wedding in early June. I was lucky enough that she asked me to be a bridesmaid and silly me last year thought ooooh I have soooo much time, I'll get to that working out thing next month. Well next month turned into next year and here we are. It's either no excuses or look like a fool in purple come June!

Last night I had a dream where we were at the salon trying on gowns and I had a pretty long purple dress. Certainly not the short lavender dress I will have in June, but still pretty. At the salon my dress was too big and I couldn't get anyone to assist in the fit.

Needless to say panic set in and it is time to go back to the gym! Get your workout on today :)

Committing To A Revolution In 2013, And Not Just Breaking Resolutions

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

With New Year's one day in, I saw my friend's status on Facebook that said she was ready to start her 2013 Revolution. I paused on her posting for the genius idea and for a break of making resolutions -- only to break them a week later.
What if we created a 2013 Revolution where we focus on our overall health, not just pounds getting lower on a scale?

For the mind -- I will focus on reading more. My first goal is to read at least one book per month (hopefully more!). My second goal will be completing Rory Gilmore's reading list from Gilmore Girls.

For the pocket book -- I will follow the $5 Savings Plan. You only pay in cash the entire year, and when you get a $5 bill you save it. You never spend your $5's. Secondly, I will add $1 for every workout I complete in 2013. The money I save will be put into a jar and then will be spent on a dress for Courtney's wedding, or a plane ticket to Boston to visit my friend or for a fun New Year's Eve dress for 2014.

For the body -- I will begin eating clean and working out at least 5x a week. I will incorporate strength and cardio into my routines. I will eliminate everything white from my diet and try to exclude diet soda, a majority of processed foods and sugar especially. My focus will be on healthy vegetables and lean proteins, and "eating like a rabbit" -- but more on that later along. I will finally use my Power 90X DVD's as well as my Jillian Michaels workouts. Once the Biggest Loser begins on January 7, 2013, I will begin a workout challenge with my mom to help her along her journey as well.

For the soul: This past birthday, I completed 26 Acts of Kindness in honor of the Sandy Hook victims. It is my goal to try and complete one act of kindness each week of this year and try to make my #27Acts even bigger this coming December.

There will be 6 major goals or milestones that I will try to accomplish in 2013 -- and if it takes until 2014 that is ok as well, because I am focusing on losing the weight, never finding it again.

Goal 1: April 20, 2013; down 30 pounds for a Chi Omega reunion.

Goal 2) June 8, 2013; down 50 pounds for my friend's wedding and my first time as a bridesmaid.

Goal 3) July 4, 2013; down 60 pounds for the 4th of July and a cute new outfit.

Goal 4) October 31, 2013; down 70 pounds and at my goal weight of 127.

Goal 5) August 2013; down 70 pounds and at my goal weight of 127. Able to go out and buy a beautiful dress for Courtney's wedding. Hopefully this will be my first shopping trip where I do not end in tears when I try on dresses. I will also then go home and see if I can fit into my high school prom dress. Hopefully a good before and after shot will ensue :)

Goal 6) December 29, 2013; down to my goal weight of 127. Fitting into my gold dress for New Years and celebrating my birthday, finally not worried about my weight.

Well here goes nothing...hopefully tomorrow will be my last, first day of changing my life for the better.

For anyone who would like to join in my Revolution please post and tell me how you are changing your life in 2013. I would love us to challenge and encourage each other during the new year!
