Finally...How to Stay Young #10

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

A friend recently sent me one of those internet things and I thought there were some fun things that more people might enjoy. Here's the first of 10 or so recommendations:

1. Try everything twice. On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph: "Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!"

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever!!! Never let the brain get idle--an idle mind is the devil's workshop and the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Laugh often, long and loud!!! Laugh until you gasp for breath! And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with him or her!!!

5. Enjoy the simple things.

6. Surround yourself with what you love: whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever...your home is your refuge.

7. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, learn to cope, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life is ourselves. Accept the tears for what they are--our body's way of cleansing our spirits. Truly LIVE while you are alive!!

8. Cherish your health:
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips...take a trip to the mall, even to the next county or a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is!!

10. Forgive now those who made you cry. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity!! Do not put these two things off, for there are no guarantees of another day for either ourselves or others.

I love all of you, my special Spark Friends and Sisters!! Hugs, always...Jeannie

DEAR JEANNIE, YOU WILL NEED TO FIND ANOTHER LIST OR WE WILL BE LOST...LOL

THIS ONE IS SO TRUE...MY BEST FRIEND EVER, WENT TROUGH CANCER AND DIED WITHOUT ME KNOWING...SHE MOVED AWAY AND IN MY CRAZINESS, I WAS WAITING TO BE MY OLD SELF AGAIN SO WE CAN CONTINUE OUR ROAD TOGETHER..WELL SHE DECIDED THAT SHE HAD ENOUGH WAITING FOR MY CALLS OR VISITING MY FAMILY AND NOT GO VISIT HER AND SHE CUT ME OFF HER FACE BOOK...I WAS ALMOST READY, NOT QUITE, WHEN HER DAUGHTER REACHED ME TO ANNOUNCE HER PASSING...I WENT TO SEE HER ASHES...TALK ABOUT GUILT, I DID NOT DESERVE HER...I AM WORKING AT LETTING IT GO...I TALK TO HER OFTEN, HER PICTURE IS IN THE BOOK OF THE MOMENT BUT GEE, I WISH I HAD BEEN THERE FOR HER IN HER SICKNESS...
SO IF YOU PICK ONE OF THOSE 10, THIS ONE WOULD BE THE PICK, I WOULD CHOSE...

LOVE
LISE

You covered all that I am doing.
I feel younger than I did 20 years ago. Must be doing something right.
Right now off to the gym to work on keeping this body feeling young. Tonight will resume my Aqua Zumba. In a few weeks the doctors says i can do regular floor Zumba. Woo Hoo. Love to dance and it's almost all dance moves.
Have a great day,

ANOTHER HARSH ONE, FOR ME...SOME PEOPLE DO ALL THERE IS TO DO AND, STILL, HEALTH IS NOT AU RENDEZ-VOUS...
THIS IS WHY, I GUESS, WE HAVE TO CHERISH, PRESERVE AND IMPROVE IT WHILE WE CAN...

SERIOUS STUFF JEANNIE, GOOD FOR THE THINKING...THANKS
LOVE YOU

Jeannie, this is so true. Thanks for the good advise. We all really should cherish our health. No one can make the changes for us. We all have to be willing to adjust our lifestyle if we truly want to get healthy and stay that way. Thanks again---Sharon

Knowing it is a part of God's plan it is out of our control so the best thing to do is remember that person fondly and never forget but keep moving ahead. . .as they would want you to grieve a little but not for too long. You have to enjoy and Celebrate Life!! Thank you Jeannie.

Jeannie, I guess I'm not getting any younger as early this morning I re-read your #5 and though I guess she didn't do one today. . .all I had to do was read #6 which this one you posted today. It's really true that as I've gotten older I cherish more things than I did when I was much younger. I even save the beautiful cards that my GS has scribbled on and I do love the simple but beautiful things such as fresh flowers and books as they make a house a home. All these are really great and I don't want them to end. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Hugs & Love,

Jill

Some really good advice in that list. I like using things I have purchased when traveling. I don't buy things like dust collectors and souvenirs, I buy stuff I really use. Last time in Ottawa I bought a fancy veggie peeler. It was really inexpensive, but every time I use it, I remember that vacation.
Good advice, Jeannie!
