How to Stay Young #7

Sunday, October 09, 2011

A friend recently sent me one of those internet things and I thought there were some fun things that more people might enjoy. Here's the first of 10 or so recommendations:

1. Try everything twice. On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph: "Tried everything twice. Loved it both times!"

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)

3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever!!! Never let the brain get idle--an idle mind is the devil's workshop and the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Laugh often, long and loud!!! Laugh until you gasp for breath! And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with him or her!!!

5. Enjoy the simple things.

6. Surround yourself with what you love: whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever...your home is your refuge.

7. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, learn to cope, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life is ourselves. Accept the tears for what they are--our body's way of cleansing our spirits. Truly LIVE while you are alive!!

tears, sadness, grieving...ye, all part of life. I rather like to focus on the last of the statement..."Truly Live while you are alive!" Have a great day, Karen

Knowing it is a part of God's plan it is out of our control so the best thing to do is remember that person fondly and never forget but keep moving ahead. . .as they would want you to grieve a little but not for too long. You have to enjoy and Celebrate Life!! Thank you Jeannie.

Hugs,

Jill

Jeannie, I guess I'm not getting any younger as early this morning I re-read your #5 and though I guess she didn't do one today. . .all I had to do was read #6 which this one you posted today. It's really true that as I've gotten older I cherish more things than I did when I was much younger. I even save the beautiful cards that my GS has scribbled on and I do love the simple but beautiful things such as fresh flowers and books as they make a house a home. All these are really great and I don't want them to end. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Hugs & Love,

Jill

Some really good advice in that list. I like using things I have purchased when traveling. I don't buy things like dust collectors and souvenirs, I buy stuff I really use. Last time in Ottawa I bought a fancy veggie peeler. It was really inexpensive, but every time I use it, I remember that vacation.
Good advice, Jeannie!

I do enjoy the simple things in Life and appreciate them even more as I grow older. I'm not the party type gal so get alot of pleasure watching a bird move and sing, reading a good book, having a good visit with a friend. . .etc. These are wonderful ways to keep yourself young and it's great you post a new one every day for us to look forward to reading. Great Idea Jeannie!

Love & Hugs,

Jill

I have to be honest, I'm not the greatest at trying new things--but maybe being a Co-Leader of our Team qualifies for that? I do love reading and always have--it's a great way to expand your mind and thinking. Thank you for sharing these as I look forward to reading whats next.

Love it! True thoughts to live by! I am all about the keep learning! I am constantly trying to learn something new....But I must admit, keeping myself out of my comfort zone by trying new things, is sometimes uncomfortable...but in the end...I am always glad I did it! emoticon

I really like these! It's really good advice! When I think of making a decision on anything, I think of three things. I ask myself if it is illegal, immoral or unethical and if it doesn't fit into one of those three categories, I figure I'll give it a shot. Doesn't always workout, but you can even learn from a spectacular failure.
Have a nice day, Jeannie
