The blouses my husband bought for me.

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

When I weighed 265 lbs. not that long ago, I carried most of my weight on my stomach and abdomen, I still do.

KMart was having a sale and I was sick. I asked my husband to go to the store and buy a couple of blouses for me. He came back from the store and said, "I hope you like these," and handed me the bag.

I pulled out two blouses. They were the right size and the style I wanted, but he chose hot pink and lime green. I put one on and was determined since he bought them that I would not complain.

Do you remember the phone commercial, "Can you hear me now?" Well, the way I made those blouses look, I felt like, "Can you see me now?" I felt like an Easter egg with arms and legs and a head. They were so bright that they reminded me of neon colors. I felt like I was auditioning as an M&M.

Now that 25 lbs. are gone, those two blouses don't make me feel like an egg any more. I have told my husband that if I cut holes in a burlap bag and wore it, he would say that I looked good in it. Men know never to answer the question, "Do I look fat in this?"

LOL, that's great! Your hubby picked out something that he thought represented you, bright and cheery! I also love that you wore it without complaining. I'm working very hard on accepting hubby's help, even if he doesn't do it "right" and just be grateful.

I went shopping last week and had a revelation that I wanted clothes to be seen in, not to hide behind any more. It was an awesome feeling, I told the ladies in line with me! emoticon

I went for a walk tonight.

Friday, June 04, 2010

I counted 15 minutes of heavy cleaning today and did my mile and a tenth walk this evening in 30 minutes. I had to take my shoes and socks off and put on flip flops when I was done. The top of the sock made a ring around my leg as if I had taken a rubberband off of my leg where the top of the sock was.

It was 86 degrees here today, but by the time I went on my walk, there was a warm breeze blowing. I have just one day to try to cram in all the exercise if I am going to get it done this week. I have tried to shave some calories off knowing I wasn't going to push myself with the swollen leg. Sunday is weigh-in day so I will see what happens.

My leg has been acting up. The history of my foot/leg injuries.

Thursday, June 03, 2010

When my children were little, I was loading them into our car into their car seats. A Roadway tractor trailer was double parked in the street to the rear of my car. I put my daughter in on the back passenger side and was putting my son in on the back driver's side when I heard the truck's engine start. I couldn't get into the car because of the car seat and leaned as far in over my son as possible. The truck cab caught the back door of the car and the car's rear end was moved sideways into the street. The truck driver never saw me or heard anything (he said later). I screamed, "Jesus!" I thought I was going to be crushed between the truck and our car. The back door bent forward and the truck rolled by, then the door sprang shut on my legs. God heard me because there was no amputation of my legs and only a small abrasion of skin (no cut) on the left leg where it was against the door frame.

I hobbled across the street as the driver turned the rig around and came back up the street. I flagged him down and told him he had hit my car. We exchanged names and information for insurance and he phoned the trucking company. I think we settled for $200 for me and they paid for repairs to get our car fixed.

Years later I had surgery on my left foot because a bone spur grew through my Achilles tendon. While I was wearing a cast, I fell twice while on crutches. They were supposed to be adjusted for my height before the surgery, but that was overlooked and I was sent home after the surgery. I was sick to my stomach post-op and was the last surgical patient to leave.

The foot healed but there is a very deep dent in the back of the heel. The foot swells easily and I now have to buy a shoe that is too big for the right foot and use insoles in it to get a shoe that fits the left foot. I can no longer wear dress shoes with any sort of a back in them and generally wear oxfords or tennis shoes.

In 2008 we bought a new house. I staged all of the boxes in the attic. I was pushing a large tote up the attic steps, when it came down the steps and hit my left leg. If hurt. I asked my brother-in-law who has EMT training if he thought I had broken the leg. He said he didn't think so because I was able to walk on it. I eventually had it x-rayed and also have had the whole leg checked two different times for blood clots using ultrasound. All the tests were negative.

So my left leg and foot have been through a lot. When it acts up, the leg turns red under my sock to the color of raw hamburger. It also swells where the sock is and it looks like I have had a rubberband around the leg where the top of the sock is.

I had two small sores open on the swollen area this week, one the size of a straight pin head and the other the diameter of a pencil eraser on the top of a pencil. I haven't done any exercise this week and have been applying Neosporin to the wounds and they are healing over. When there is no longer a scab, I will get back to exercise. The doctors can't figure out what is going on and want me to wear support stockings. I have a problem with the left hip and cannot raise my leg up to be able to get them on by myself. I sit on the bed and draw my legs up to the side bent at the knee to get my socks and shoes on. I cannot raise my left foot as high as I can the right foot to wash my feet because of the left hip.
I am asking for prayer for this because I was told that weight loss will help the swelling and most of you know that exercise is what helps us achieve the weight loss. I could do the exercise anyway, but the sores scare me. The leg had been swelling about the size of an egg above the outside left ankle and then thumps or feels like it is burning. The swelling goes down when I lie down and sleep.

Oh wow this is quite serious for you to be going through. I will add you on my prayer list asap. More importantly for the Doctors to be able to diagnose this and treat you immediately. Have you considered going for a second opinion or even the Mayo clinic. God bless you & do take it easy. emoticon

Good morning. Wow, that's quite a story. First of all, the truck driver should be smacked (Idon't normally feel physical) but what's $200 for a lifetime of pain and misery. He was careless and stupid and it sounds like he didn't really care. You are definitely going to be in my prayers. I'm so sorry you have to deal with so many difficulties. I wish you the very best on your journey to good health and for all your pain to be gone!

The chair.

Tuesday, June 01, 2010

We went over to our son's last evening at 6 P. M. for a cookout. It started to rain after we got there and our son stood out in the rain bare-chested and grilled on a gas grill. His girlfriend has two boys and the youngest one was dropped off after being at a campground over the weekend with his grandparents.
He came in and was upset that he didn't have his chair. His Mom called her Mom and asked about the chair. They were bringing it over. Our son went out and met them since there was no place to park. He lives in a 3-story apartment and came up the stairs to the living room carrying a purple chair that looked like a hand with the palm being the seat and the fingers and thumb being the back.
Matthew said he and Mamaw had gone to a flea market and he wanted the chair and she bought it for him for $20. I think Matthew is 8 years old but he chose a purple hand/chair as what he wanted from the flea market.
Of course he had to sit in it at the table while we ate. Then he dragged it into the living room to watch TV. I got a big kick out of it, it is gaudy as all get out, but Hey, you're only a kid once! We all had a turn of sitting in it and trying it out. It is sturdy and very comfortable. There is a flat place on the thumb that will hold a soda can or a glass. Something about a purple hand and his choice in wanting "that chair", just makes me smile.

Sounds like you had a great time. So glad that she brought his "new" purple chair over for him. Sounds like a great chair to me and comfortable and sturdy to boot. Your blog brought a big smile to my face too!!!

Cute, sounds like a chair I might like especially since purple is my favorite color and I do like unusual things. And you're right -- you're only a kid once! emoticon

Goofing off has a payoff.

Sunday, May 30, 2010

I am addicted to being online and looking at the wealth of information about things. I was on Thursday night and decided to do a search for 2X dresses for under $15. I thought second-hand clothing would come up on e-bay or other similar sites, but was surprised that there are some nice looking dresses that are being offered and they are brand new.
We go to a Bible conference over Labor Day weekend and I haven't bought any new clothes in a couple of years, except for shoes. I have almost three months to make a selection to fit my new weight. I would have never thought I could find something for that price.
The next time I have an idea, I will use a search engine and see what I come up with.

I also buy clothes from charity shops, I find clothes, some with labels still attached, that are never worn and ones in such good condition that they have obviously hardly been worn.
I don't buy from E-bay very often because I don't have a standard womens shape, but my sister-in-law has had some amazing bargains.
I know from experience how wearing well fitting nice clothes makes you feel good and more likely to stick to your diet.... emoticon
