not again

Friday, February 24, 2012

our local blood bank hired a bunch of new people that don't seem to be very experienced. A couple a months ago i gave blood and i ended up with bruises on both arms from the blood pressure cuff.
This time they over shot the vein so i let them try the other arm. That was not to smart. they did not get that are right either, after filling half the bag, my blood started to clot because they did not get it right. so he started poking at my arm. I have a high enough pain tolerance so it only hurt a little, but now my arm is bruised and i can't lean on it without it starting to hurt.

I figure i'll give them 1 more chance in a couple months but they are not getting a change at both arms again.

Sorry you had a bad experience but you have a good heart for taking the time to donate blood. I work in a hospital lab and it can be scary when we have a shortage of blood and somebody is bleeding out. Bless you for giving this precious gift. I hope next time will be a more positive experience for you.

Sacred at size

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

My hubby the theologian
ok, actually he is agnostic. he dislikes people pushing their beliefs on others when they don't truly live it.

This thought started when my sister started complaining about how she was heavy and how she doesn't understand why boys hit on her. My hubby chewed her out - He said that she needs to take her beliefs more to heart. The bible talks about how we are children of God and made in his image. So when we hate ourselves and put ourselves down because of our looks or size, we are not living our faith.

There was a little bit more to his speech, but it is pretty powerful statement that i know i don't take to heart enough.

40 days of lent

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

When I was a kid, i didn't care for lent. my dad always seemed to push me to give stuff up, it became a chore.

Now that i am older i am looking at it as more of a learning experience. A time to be more mindful of what i have in my life and in my actions. This year i am going to give up some of my bad bad habits.

1)No eating in the car while running errands. For some reason when i do errands i crave sugar. I am almost never hungry, but yet i want a snack.

2) mindless eating at work. this is a tough one, but i already started to practice this one so i will be ready for it. so for 40 days no buying junk foods from the vending machines - no buying or bringing pop at work. also no getting danishes from the vender.

3) no snacking after 10pm on weeknights. my plan for succeeding at this is to pack my lunch earlier, and brush my teeth right away after showering.

These 3 items may not seem like big sacrifices, but they will take consistent vigilance and mindfullness.

Great goals to set for yourself. I commute 100 miles two days and I always found myself stopping at convenience stores and walking out with something completely devoid of nutrition. A year ago I set a new rule for myself that I had to gas up and pay at the pump and give up convenience store shopping. If I am driving and really hungry I stop at a real grocery store and buy fruit.

Awesome plan for Lent. I'm refraining from meat on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Bring on the fish!

I agree with you. These are big sacrifices. It takes will power and determination to achieve these sacrifices. In order to achieve something you constantly have to think about it and become motivated. I wish you all the luck with this, I still have not decided what my lenton sacrifice will be yet. I am thinking of setting my goals to be a better person. To be there for my family, and to keep a smile on my face, especially when dealing with difficult situations. Good Luck to You and God Bless.

Any sacrifice or any time that we change our behaviour is a big thing. I applaud you for choosing to work these three habits during lent. This will not only help you in your goals of loosing weight but it will also help center you in your spiritual life. Good luck and I hope to cheer you on these forty days of Lent or as much time as you need. emoticon

They say it takes 2 weeks (or is it 3?) to form a new habit-- but I've found that those old bad habits do indeed die real hard. It's like they're just lying there, "playing dead", ready to creep back in. Go YOU for the motivation to work on them!!
