He landed on the moon today!

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Was reminded very early this morning that this was the anniversary of the day that Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. I was between 5th and 6th grade and living in Missoula, Montana. We had a color TV and watched it. When school started our social studies teacher said it would be the most 'momentous occasion' of our lives that we saw that. I can't remember his name-he was a wonderful teacher from New Zealand...but he was SO wrong. It had very little impact on my life as a whole and certainly none that summer-except we stayed in the a/c for one day instead of riding our bikes to the gully to hike.

Summer is in full bloom here. Our air quality is poor-which is very unusual-because of the smoke coming to us from the huge wildfire in the middle of the state of Washington. The wheat fields are turning that wonderful amber and the hot winds are blowing those famous "amber waves of grain". The mosquitoes are thick and as blood thirsty as always. The garden looks great and the water bill looks bad! Have the window a/c's and the fans running constantly.

The summer county fair is finishing up tonight with a demolition derby. I didn't even go up to the fairgrounds. I volunteered to cook the fry bread for Indian tacos but we did it in the little trailer outside the senior center. Much easier than hauling all that stuff up there and a much more pleasant place for the elderly to eat than in that heat and smoke and the long walk at the fairgrounds. I baked 6 banana cream pies and 6 lemon meringue and they sold out in the first two hours and 10 of them as whole pies for $24 so I was delighted with that.

The scale has been good to me. Lost another 5 pounds since I last stepped on it. It's all the sweat from working outside and in this heat. I've had a busy summer so far and almost time to start up my harvest crew cooking job so it won't get any less hectic. I still have not replaced my computer-which in many ways has been a good thing. I spend more time working than sitting on the internet...but I miss you guys! Hope you're having a wonderfully healthy summer and enjoying all the sunshine your heart can hold!

Way to go on weight loss. Thought the note about communion as first meal on the moon was very roughing.

Hope your summer is going well.

It's amazing how many things that are amazing have taken place since then, like this computer. I am trying to enjoy the summer. And I am at a point where I am so close to goal weight, that I am fighting my scale. But really it's that I am cheating ,ore. take care, and enjoy all your blessings. eva

    Linda,

Did you know the first meal on the Moon was? My friend MBPP50 wrote a blog about it. The first meal was Communion, wine and bread. Apparently, because of religious reasons, this was not shown to the audience on TV.

One great thing about living close to Moon is that we do not have that many skeeters. Because we are close to the Pittsburgh International airport, fuel and oil particles from planes slightly cover bodies of water. This slight film makes it hard for skeeters to reproduce since they reproduce on the surface.

Great job sweating off those 5 pounds! Congrats on the success of your hours of baking!

  Congratulations on losing 5 pounds!---
And you must bake really delicious pies--- I want a lemon one right now!

I worked in Switzerland when man walked on the moon for the first time. I remember that it was a big event in Europe-- My future husband was employed by NASA when this historic event happened, so space history is especially interesting to our family.

We, too, remember. Sitting at the kitchen table, watching the event unfold on a very small B&W TV. What sticks in my mind is the background sound of someone mowing a lawn and I wondered who didn't even watch.

SW MT is getting heavy smoke off and on as well. With the thunderstorms, heat, smoke and this morning, rain, we have not been able to hike on the Continental Divide Trail in over two weeks.

At least I don't have to water outside plants today and even better, it is much cooler.

Congrats on the #5, Linda. I am stuck in obese-land and have GAINED 10# since joining SP in Dec.!!!! Bummer. emoticon

The anniversary of man walking on the moon is also the anniversary of me and my two boys arriving at the Windsor airport to start our life in Ontario. My husband got out of the navy in June and drove up but the boys and I stayed with my parents in Nova Scotia until after my sister's wedding July 12. I was a bridesmaid and my older son was the ring bearer. I did not see the moon landing except for re-runs but whenever the event is discussed, it brings back my personal memories.

We are having a good summer. There are hot days but last week was cooler. In fact, we were at daughter's to dog-sit and we didn't even take the solar cover off the pool because it wasn't quite hot enough for swimming. I am enjoying my little garden too.

hugs,

Good life rules

Tuesday, July 08, 2014

My good friend STEVEN2GO2 often sends me these wonderful inspirational kind of e-mails. They usually come (or I open them) when I am really in need of what they have to say. This was in a great batch that came a few days ago and I just read tonight. Thanks Space Cadet...and thanks to the rest of you for reading it!

I think they are "talking points" for the implementation of the Golden Rule.

Pot at the End of The Rainbow

Friday, June 27, 2014

My good Spark Friend SHAKESALOT is a big fan of rainbows. She posted an incredible picture of a double rainbow once. I was driving down to the VA hospital on Wednesday afternoon/early evening and the sky had those bruised colored clouds and it looked like rain off in the distance.

I was on my way down to have a colonoscopy. I won't bore you with the gory details but since it's 210 miles from where I live I drive down and get settled into a motel before I begin to drink the "prep"-which nothing ever really prepares you for. I was worried. Something is wrong with my gut. They've ruled out several things I thought might be the culprit so because the last ultrasound and CAT scan were 'iffy' they decided to do the colonoscopy again.

Suddenly, straight ahead of me, there was a break in the clouds and there was just a portion of a rainbow showing through. It was NOT raining. It was just a beautiful section of rainbow that left me feeling at peace with whatever happens. I continued on my trip feeling much more relaxed and thinking I had to make sure and let SHAKES know that I saw a rainbow worthy of a photo but no camera with me. And I laughed thinking of where I was going to be in about 45 minutes...and it was on the pot at the end of that rainbow!

Went well as could be expected. It showed that the mesh that was used in my hernia repair has shifted a bit and is rubbing and irritating the intestine so won't be a big thing to repair. No rainbows on the way home, but sure felt much better and about 5 pounds lighter!!

I will have to admit that this blog did wonders for my adament refusal to have a colonoscopy OR surgical repair of my hernia.

I stopped breathing after a knee replacement years ago and would not be writing this had a nurse not wandered into my room!!!

The Exercise Bike Reward!!

Sunday, June 22, 2014

This was in my e-mail today from my great Spark Friend STEVEN2GO2. I think you'll really enjoy it. It came from a website called The Daily Mailer.
"This is such a genius and fun idea, I wish I was there to see all the smiling faces of the women taking part in this hilarious French stunt with the obvious goal of getting them working hard and exercising. By the end of it, they not only had tremendous fun and a story to tell, but burnt a huge amount of calories."

I hope you have a wonderful week-lots of laughter and exercise and stick to your plan! That's my goal!
