Day 10-Rest Day

Saturday, April 21, 2012

B blueberries, oranges, fennel, ginger, coconut water

L cranberries, apple, celery, mint, stevia

D lacinato, cuke, garlic

I’ve been thinking about will power. I was talking to a friend yesterday about the fact that I’m juicing, and she said, ‘oh, I could never have your will power.’ I think I laughed it off at the time, but today I started thinking about it. There seems to be no will power involved for me. I’m just doing what I want to do. How does that involve will power? I read a lot before starting this juice feast and learned from fellow sparkers, people in my community, books and the internet. It seemed like the logical next step for me. I want to be as healthy as I can possibly be and so the choices I make are all in line with that desire. I think that this is where diets fail. They impose on us rather than letting it be a choice that comes from within.

I had a delicious, restful day today and am looking forward to another tomorrow.

Interstingly, Mr. Wonderful has scheduled his rest days now too. They've been riding 100 miles a day in 100 degree heat, so he is taking Sat. off, Sun. is a rest day, and Mon. he does a shift in the sag wagon.

Your juices sound delicious. I love the idea of fresh cranberries AND with mint! Yowza! I can not imagine how the fennel is. What is that like with the fruit? And, what is lacinto?
Me, who's never done what you're doing right now, see that there would be an awful lot of work involved: getting loads of fruits and vegetables, preparing the juices, cleaning up...But the taste pleasure of what you drink - extraordinary! And your visits to your source for produce must also be delightful knowing that you must get lots and lots and considering what might taste good or interesting or be nutritious together. From the outside, from my uninitiated position, it appears like a very big project indeed, let alone all that's going on on your insides. It sounds like this is not at all a-business-as-usual time and thus a time to rest and let the shifts occur. I am vicariously savoring your experience through your postings.

You sound content and calm. Good place. You and your DH sound in sync and glad he is doing okay. I can't ride a bike, much less in the heat. Hats off to him. And you. From someone who is not ready, it may sound like will power. So, take the "compliment" and smile. You deserve it.

Thanks for sharing your juice recipes. I am keeping my eye out for a good juicer and will definitely be coming back for ideas.

Sounds like you are so in sync with your emotions and food choices. I'm very impressed.

Glad you are resting. This feast may change your whole attitude toward the value of rest versus being active and busy. Dr. Graham is a huge advocate of sleep whether one is fasting or not.

Wonderful! I couldn't agree more about having it come from within. It is amazing to me how when we start eating whole food in the natural state this flows naturally and gains momentum.

So happy you rested yesterday. Please don't go gung-ho today. The more you rest, the more you get healthy on this feast.

I completely agree. No willpower here - intention, resolve, discipline maybe. I've been reading about people breaking a fast with pizza lol. No thanks. I guess the fact that there was pizza in my house & I didn't have any might be considered willpower by some. But I'm with you Leeney, it's a choice of my healthy body over a sick fat one.

Day 9-Wiped Out

Friday, April 20, 2012

Day 9

B grapefruit, oranges, bean sprouts, kale--sounds weird, but pretty good

L spinach, tomatoes, carrots, celery

D Romaine, parsley, kiwi, pears--surprisingly good

Oh I can’t believe how tired I am. I had a Dr.’s appointment early this morning and then got in a few hours of work and then a blessed nap. I explained to my doc that I was doing this and that since I was superwoman I probably didn’t need rest. He grinned.

I stopped at the library on my way home and picked up my book club book that they were holding for me. It’s 550 pages, so I’ll have something to read over the next two days when I do plan to take it easy.

I’ll write more when my brain starts working again.

Leeney, I am very thrilled that you are listening to the body's needs for rest. We care and will be waiting for you to return refreshed.

Personally I did something I shouldn't have. I drank 2 cups of citrus juice very fast and now my body is telling me to go to bed. I am doing so right now.

Hugs hon! See you in lala land.

yeah, a nap! Good for you. What book are you going to read? I am always on the look out for a good one.

And, your juices do sound weird! LOL... but I bet they were awesome. Strange, huh? Glad you are seeing your Dr. I need to call mine. Normal yearly stuff. Thanks for the reminder.

Hope your weekend is restful.

Just to clear up any possible confusion. I do drink about a gallon of juice a day. For example, the yummy blueberry concoction I made this morning provided over a quart of juice. The BL&D 'recipes' that I list are just ingredients for my juices. I was tracking for the first few days of juicing, just to make sure I was getting enough calories, but now I have the hang of it and also trust my body more to let me know what it needs.

Thanks for your concern.

I have been making a gallon plus of juice every day. I also supplement with homemade kombucha which is good for digestion. Drink, drink, drink....rest, rest, rest.

Leeney dear, of course you are tired. You are not consuming enough calories! On the Gerson Therapy you drink 13 juices every day.

And as you know, you must ready at first in order to get the benefit of the juice feast. Please don't buck these two bits of information. They come from people who have worked with health and detox for a very very long time. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Day 8-Juicy Week 1 Update

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Day 8

B çoconut water, cantaloupe, strawberries, lime
L çoconut water, pineapple pears
D coconut water, blueberries, celery, cuke, ginger

Craving fruit juices today, so that’s what I’ve been drinking...just could not face greens today!

Week #1 Results

Weight--down 5.7 pounds--@136.3
Waist---lost 1” @ 30
Hips--lost .5” @ 38
Body fat---down 3.8--@32.2
Body fat%--down 1.4%--@23.7%
BMI--down 1.2--@21.3

I have not been tempted at all by food this week. Yes, I’ve thought about it as I’ve driven past places I used to eat, or seen something in an add, but I’ve been letter perfect in my juicing this week and am pleased with the results.

Things started catching up to me today. I slept for 9 hours last night, but was still dragging this morning. I decided to skip the gym today, so I just stayed home and sat and read, guzzled fruit juices, and did some work on the computer. My brain felt fuzzy too. Not thinking really clearly. Could it be that ‘you know who’ is right and I do need more rest? LOL! I did go out this afternoon because I had a massage scheduled. Wow! It was just what I needed. I told my friend Michelle, who was doing the massage, what I was feeling and she gave me a wonderful relaxing hour. No working out muscle knots this time around. So this was my gift to myself for a week of juicing. I have next week’s gift all picked out already, but things change, so we’ll wait and see. I’m going to try to take it easy for the next couple of days and see what changes that brings.

So aside from the weight and measurement stats I posted on my first week, I’ve also noticed that: My sense of smell is incredible, mental clarity is improved...this one comes and goes, my complexion looks brighter, energy levels have been good...up until today, and I’m getting more adept at dealing with emotional issues as they come up.

I’ve been going back and re-reading blogs of all my fellow juices who have traveled this path before me. I owe you all so much!

Mr. Wonderful is in Las Vegas and they are taking a rest day after doing 2 days across the desert of over 100 miles each day.

And god said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed: to you it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29

Love the Genesis quote. I'm not juice feasting yet but I feel like I am. Each morning I bring 3 32 oz of green smoothie and also a 32 oz of grapefruit/ginger/apple juice to work. lol

You are doing fantastic!

Honey, I am loving hearing your progress. I stayed home today, yes, you-know-who had a good idea. Do you buy young coconuts and use the juice or purchase coconut juice? It sounds wonderful but I've only had a young coconut once. Do you juice the "meat"? Just curious.

I am beginning my morning with my lemon water and some coconut water and then I am going to have pray with my sisters and rest until about 10:00 am - I just want to be lazy today. Keep it up and please enjoy your feast and shot of life as it comes about!

Day 7-A Day Late!

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Day 7

B blueberries, pineapple, orange, fennel, cucumber, ginger-omg, juiceheads, you gotta try this one!
L Romaine, pears, grapefruit, parsley-another good green one
D apples, oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes, celery

Well the guys are done with the lawn and as soon as they left the birds descended. They love organic stuff as much as we do! While they were here, (the men, not the birds!) I did a ‘Raworganicvegan’ on them! I was making my breakfast juice and thought I’d offer them some. They loved it, of course. Breakfast is always my favorite juice of the day. Well of course we started talking about juice, food, organics, etc., and before I knew it I was telling him what his mother should be eating...and not eating...to help her arthritis!

My dreams have been very colorful lately. I think I’m processing a lot of stuff while I sleep. Sometimes the message is clear to me and other times, like last night, I just wake up and think omg, I gotta call Steven Spielberg!

I hear your advice, friends, about slowing down and taking it easy, but since I’m retired and the little work that I do is sedentary, I feel I need to do my gym time. I can restrict my activity to my water aerobics class and take it at an easy pace...maybe. Trouble is, I don’t know how to do ‘easy.’ When I work out, I push. But I’ll work on it. Maybe I’ll go to the back of the class with the talkers!

I was so busy that I didn't get around to posting this yesterday. Went with a friend to see Anne Lamott, one of my favorite authors, last night. She was wonderful.

So I'll be back later with a week 1 recap.

How fun spreading the word. Sometimes you can't help it! ;0

I don't always believe one way is the only way but in this case, I too am voting for you to take a break for at least a day. Not that any of us get a vote! LOL... but as long as you are on the subject.

Can't wait to see the movie!

I can tell by how you write you are a busy body.... nothing wrong with that.
I will say that early on in my fast (30 days) I did nothing extra... and I do mean nothing. Everybody is different however so, what your body says goes.

It's something how easy a healthy life is to spread around. And it's easy to share once you have started one. Way to spread healthy living around.

Leeney, there is also a block about simply laying low. Your body will not heal as much as you are intending for this fast unless you slow it down. If I could make one recommendation I'd say STAY IN BED one day totally. I mean it hon. You are wasting time being busy when your body is telling you to slow it down so it can take over.

Day 6...I think

Monday, April 16, 2012

B cantaloupe
L celery, cuke, kale, apples, lemon, ginger (That worked, thanks, Freeze!)
D mango, strawberries, carrots, beet

I am so tired today that it’s all I can do to keep my eyes open. Other than that, life is good. My body is still adjusting to juicing and I never know what a day will bring. I went to the gym and spent some time in the sauna, ran a bunch of errands, had a class for an hour and that’s it. When I got home, the guys I use sometimes to take care of my lawn were reseeding and spreading leaf much for me. I’m trying to go green with our lawn care and battling Mr. Wonderful who is sometimes known as Mr. Chemical! But while he’s away...

Speaking of whom, today they rode 114 miles in the Mojave Desert. No phone or email service for a couple of days. I tried to post a pic, but can't seem to do it with my new computer and way to tired to fuss with it.

Yes, please rest. And I have a feeling that you're not getting enough juice. Karen is la Expert on that though, but it just seems to me that you're light on calories. That will make you feel mighty tired mighty fast.

Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to write to us.

We are just redoing our front yard. Not much space so we are doing lawn. I have acres to do garden, raise weeds, etc. I wanted one nice small lawn area to play with the grandbaby!

Slow down and take it easy. Put in a movie! Kick up your feet. You are doing great.

Way to go on a green yard. Hope DH isn't too disappointed.
