December A Fresh Start

Saturday, December 01, 2012

I did't get the FitBit Yesterday but it still might come today,I hope. (our mail comes in the afternoon)
I'm not going to use that as an excuse to stop me from being healthy and loosing those few pounds i want to lose.
I started with a healthy 12 ounce glass of water as soon as I got up, had a black coffee, and I made Steel Cut Oats with half a banana, a tablespoon of flax seed and a tablespoon of peanut butter mixed in.(SO GOOD)
We then had a small glass of left over smoothie. Done now til lunch.
Now to just make sure I move and exercise.
Have a Great Day everyone. emoticon

In answer to Spatten2001, I didn't get the Fit bit yet (now I hope it comes Monday)
and I usually but whole flaxseed and grindit in the bullet and keepit in the freezer and use it from there. I have bought and used it already ground when I found it on sale.

I hope you received your FitBit -- I absolutely love mine! My real problem with exercise is that I don't like it! However, I will say that I am more conscious of walking daily since I started with the FitBit in October. Curious -- is your flax seed whole or ground?

I ordered my FitBit

Thursday, November 29, 2012

My Fitbit is on the way. I can't wait to get it. I need to get motivated again. I am in a lazy slump and my eating is awful. I am a vegetarian but I have been a junk food junkie.
Sooo, December 1st I am going to eat like a sane person and exercise like I mean it.
I am hoping the Fitbit comes in by then (fingers are crossed) but if not I will start without it.
I have got to get back on track. I am 3 pounds up and i want to be 7 pounds down by Dec. 31st.
I have my work cut out for me. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yay!!! I weigh in at my doctor's on 12/11 and if I'm down 10 lbs, I get my Fitbit. I'm so excited!!! It is sitting on my bookshelf staring at me, but I really want it as a reward. Every time I look at it, I tell myself - Keep you eye on the prize! I hope you have a wonderful December and enjoy your FB!

Happy Day to All

Thursday, November 22, 2012

I just want to wish every one a Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate today and a Happy Day to those who don't.
Today is also our 39th anniversary. I am happy that it is. So many don't make a few months let alone years.
We have had our fights and problems but we have stuck together through thick and thin and I couldn't have had a better husband through it all. He's still as wonderful as the day I met him and decide he's the one.
I still Love him and I know he loves me. That is a plus in any relationship.
I love you all,too.
Have a Happy Day! :)

Stroke update

Thursday, August 16, 2012

I don't know why I took so long to update. It's been 1 year and 5 months since his stroke. He is doing good. He had to learn to walk and can do really well until he gets tired and then he gets a bit wobbly.
His eyes are pretty good except the left side, his eye is numb and he still is vertically challenged.
The left side of his head and face is still numb (in a wierd way) that if it rains or snows hard it stings.
His whole right side is also numb and it stings in a different way. He said his arm is constantly freezing but it is strong. He never lost strength. plus he can't tell if something is hot or cold with his right side.
I am hoping to find a holistic doctor and get him off different pills.
He is now a vegetarian like me (after watching Forks Over Knives) and he is always trying to do something and keep busy.
We were told he was very lucky and if he wasn't in such good shape he might have died.
Oh yes, he had a rotator cuff repaired this last March (it was a complete tear) and after that healed for awhile a tree fell on his same shoulder. (Causing a seperated shoulder) Now that has to heal.
BUT he is doing good and if you saw him you wouldn't know all this has happened.
Now we are both trying to eat healthier and exercise.
I am know he will keep improving.
Thank you all for your prayers, I know that helped a whole bunch. emoticon

Great News! So glad that he is doing so well, but sorry that he has had to endure further pain with the tree falling on his shoulder after the rotator cuff repair, which is a very painful surgery in itself! Prayers and hugs continue your way from me! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm sorry this update took so long. I'm not that good on blogging. here goes.
March 9th we thought my husband had the flu. He had a terrible headache behind his eyes and was dizzy and sick to his stomache. We did" flu things" for him.
Friday 3/10/11 he woke up the same only he couldn't walk or stand he came almost flying or falling out of the bedroom and landing on the couch.
Gave him asprin, tried to get him to eat and he threw up. He said his eyes still hurt and was so dizzy.
He was on the couch and said he was going to stay there. I left for work (had to only one working) and said I'd call him at 9. Our son works near our house and always checks on us,too.
When I called he had a hard time answering the phone and when we finally connected hesaid come home now he can't see and feels bad.
I flew home and when I got there he was still on the couch and said he couldn't stand.Dizzy.
I called my son and told him I had to get him to my car to the hospital.(I thought the road would be too bad for ambulance to get up(snowy at the time) and if they got stuck we would never get him out.
My son came and him and his friend carried him to my car. My son drove us to the hospital.
He had to keep his eyes closed all the way. Too dizzy.
We have no coverage and we never see a doctor. He had a doctor a few years ago when we had coverage and he did take him back as a patient.
The hospital checked him when we got there, he never lost any strength in his arms or legs, never had the mouth droop, never had any memory lapse (i was so crazy he had to tell me our son's number) never thought stroke.
The hospital gave hoim an antivert and blood tests and cat scans and everything was "good" I guess. The doctors and nurses were so good to us.
They said they were going to see if he could stand and of course couldn't plus he was leaning to the left preety much. they decided to admit him after awhile.
They called in a neurologist who sent him for an mri. she said she thinks he had a stroke. I was in shock. My husband wasn't, he said he thought that's what happened.
The mri showed he had a stroke in the left side of his brain in the back.(Medulla oblongata)
He was 5 days in the hospital and then I had to bring him home. They tried to get him in a facility (no names) but they wouldn't take him without insurance. They got us Home Health Care a nurse and a physical therapist came to help him. He didn't need an occupational therapist because he could use his hands and legs (just couldn't walk or sit straight)plus the vision was double.
They were wonderful, she came twice a week ad worked with him so he could learn to walk first with a walker then a cane (still has cane but does great) He did get a card so he is in therapy now twice a week. They are going to do extensive therapy soon where he will go longer. They said in 30 some years they had only one other stroke similar to his.
He can walk now pretty good until he tires and then he stumbles around a little (to his left) His eyes were very vertically challenged and for awhile would just be jumpy. They seem to be coming together more (although his vision did get worse the doctor said) his left side of his face (especially his eye) is numbish his eye does hurt him at times. He said it feels like his left side of his face is like a charred piece of wood.
His right side of his body (from the neck down to his foot) this includes the groin area, is numb to the touch. He can't tell if he is holding hot or cold in his right hand His voice is raspy but he could always talk and his right arm to his hand always feels ice cold to him even though it is hot to touch.
He is recovering quickly, even at the hospital he could find center when they told him he was leaning and would walk with us supporting him. His eyes are the worst thing and we keep praying they will get better, too.
His one therapist that is studing the brain and stokes said that people don't usually recover when it's the Medula. Forgive Me, I don't do well with medical terms and things like that.
BUT!! This is it so far.
I bet you all are sorry you asked for an up date. :-)
We hope you will still keep him in your prayers,we sure do need them.
I'll let you know when he's all better.
Love you all.

My prayers are with you both, and I know this is taking its toll on both of you in its own individual way. The power of prayer is great, and he is recovering little by little as time passes. It is wonderful that he has made such great progress, though he still has a stretch to go yet.

Many blessings.

So sorry to hear about your husband. My husband just came home from the hospital as well. He had major surgery and was n the hospital for a week. He's doing find, but has a feeding tube in his stomach and will have it for about 6 to 8 weeks. He had the lower part of his esophagus and the part of the stomach connected to it removed.

Anyway, just wanted you to know you're not alone. Our prayers for your husband's complete recovery.
