Makayla!

Sunday, July 20, 2014

Little Makayla was being a freshy and made it so she had to come a few weeks early! Mom dealt with possible gestational diabetes and then pre-eclampsia...but it was soooo worth it!
Makayla made her debut at 6:08 am on Saturday, July 19th, weighing in at 6 lbs, 2oz and 19" long!
Mom, Dad, and baby are all doing fine!

Baby Shower for Ashley

Thursday, May 22, 2014

What a beautiful day it was for a baby shower. The weather was wonderful...I should have held it outdoors. But who could trust the forecasts these days! The house was full and everyone had a wonderful time.

The food was good (pat, pat, pat on my back)! Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures of the buffet set up! Go figure...but here's the cake by Big Y.

The company was better!

It was great to see so many people that I hadn't seen in a long time. Their generosity to the kids was so appreciated. The kids got a lot of nice and needed things!

We are all looking forward to Makayla's arrival around August 10th!

A beached whale in the mirror!

Sunday, April 13, 2014

So, yesterday I decided to go shopping for some new Spring tops. I was actually looking for a red top, but I guess that color really isn't spring. However, i did find a few nice looking tops and some coordinating beige slacks. So, I went into the dressing room to try them on. Ooof! Who is that beached whale? Where did all that blubber come from? How did I manage to let this happen?
Needless to say, I am not a happy camper! Uggghhhh!!! I have a ton of work to do in order to get back into shape...and there's a wedding in August! Well, I really have to "track" EVERYTHING I eat and do! Time to crack the whip! I can do this, I can do this, I CAN DO THIS!

Those silly mirrors are never flattering they show every little over curves! BUT, they do not show the beautiful woman inside. The one that is loved by God and shows that love to her family. That is what your friends and loved ones see the love of God shining through. Tender hugs. Pat

I know that feeling very well, but I also know beached whales who can dress and carry themselves like they are thin. I think a lot of it is mindset - I need to loose some too but seem to be more comfortable as a beached whale - there is beauty there. While its taken me a while to read this, I sure hope you are making progress - emoticon

You can do this, and you are not a whale! You are a beautiful woman who is taking the time and the effort to work on herself for her health and for her well-being. I admire that, but you are NOT a whale!!! When I see those "jiggly parts" in the mirror, I think upon the great painter Reuben, and I call myself "Reubenesque" it's just a gentle way to say "some of that jiggle has to go!" emoticon

Yes you can. The mirror where I get my hair done is one that makes me wonder. I've lost almost ten pounds since my last visit but that mirror makes me think I've gained 20. Let it go and concentrate on healthy eating. YOU CAN DO THIS!!

I have done & felt the very same way! Dressing room mirrors (I told myself) are NOT flattering at all....or is it that I really am as over weight as the mirror shows?! Anyway...hang in there! I just have to tell myself that this is only temporary and I'm on the right track to fixing this! I look forward to the day I can try on clothes and smile instead of cringe! Good luck to you!! You'll be smiling into that mirror sooner than you think!! emoticon

A weird happy thought for my empty nest

Monday, August 19, 2013

I finally got around to cleaning out the school supply cabinet. Quite a bit of K - 12 type stuff in there!
For example some of the better items that will be packed up:

Folders and filler paper, an eraser, some colored pencils, a couple of glue sticks that are still sticky, and place holder tabs.

and

Report covers...oops, no side holders...staples will have to do, index cards, the eraser and place holder tabs again!

and

Used crayons, colored pencils, and markers. Then 2 pencil cases with some used and new pens and unused pencils. Maybe a highlighter or 2!

and finally

Some scrap paper from an old spiral notebook and the dividers with some tabs and the some inserts to label the dividers with.

I also found some beat up notebooks, broken pencils or decent pencils with lousy erasers, and dried out markers. Needless to say they got tossed into the trash. I also found some page protectors...those will be great for my choir music...wonder why they are there...and a stenographer's notebook..that will be great to track my food/water/& exercise during the day so that I can enter it all later. Oh yeah! I also found 3 scientific calculator manuals! I didn't realize I had bought that many...and I thought the kids shared! Lol! (A mind is a terrible thing to lose!)

Not sure why every year I would go out and buy supplies that I already had. Why did my kids feel so privileged that they couldn't use last year's stuff! They had no problem wearing last year's clothes that still fit and were in decent condition. They sometimes wanted to wear last year's clothes that didn't fit and had holes in them. But not the school supplies!

It feels great not to have to get the lists and fight the fight of why teachers need all the supplies they think they need to teach. And spend money foolishly! It's also nice to have 3 shelves available again in that cabinet! A benefit of an empty nest! But I still miss and love my kids!

I love buying fresh school supplies! There's something about a new pen and a fresh sheet of paper! I know, I'm strange...

I agree that the school supply list is way too long and I've been helping in classrooms often enough to see too many kids rip out a fresh sheet of paper to make an airplane or doodle on--now that irritates me!

I need to do the same thing - and every year when the school supplies go on sale, I feel the need to "replenish" the cupboard - doesn't matter that both my girls have been out of college now for over five years!!!! I did find a way to rid myself of all the boxes of crayons. My youngest daughter is now an Art teacher and the other year I sent all my extra crayons and markers with her to school. So many children don't have any, and she could discreetly pass them on to them.

I did much the same thing last year. I still have some stuff--for the baby in college. She asks for folders and filler paper and I still have it. You might check with a local nature center--I know wed take the used crayons and pencils and colored pencils. Maybe a day care would like them, too!

Sheet dilemma

Friday, July 19, 2013

I don't know if it is just me or what, but since they changed the size of mattresses, fitted sheets don't stay fitted as well, but there is compensation with "deep fitted" sheets. However, I'm finding the top sheets do not get the added width. I love having my sheets and blankets tucked in nice and snug when I make my bed, but I can't do that any more when I buy sets. I am thinking I just may have to buy a queen deep fitted sheet and a king top sheet separately. I wonder if that will help...of course I have to get to a store to make sells them separately in order to make that purchase...sheets are not items I purchase online due to I need to feel them...don't want them to rough or too silky. I also wonder how much more that will cost me!

Oh - I have the exact same problem! It's like they added the depth in the fitted sheets, but kept the top sheets the same. *sigh* Manufacturers. Not a clue.

Anne--good luck! Check Lands End and see if their king sheets are a bit bigger--or I guess you actually want queen sheets--they may make theirs a little larger but I'm not sure. Not cheap but worth it.

I hear ya Anne everyone of our king size fitted sheets don't stay on the corners and those elastic things you can buy to help hold them yuck they don't help much either.

I like mine all tucked in nice to, but the top sheet on these kings don't either one good thing about being short though my feet don't hang out lol. Good luck on finding them separately I have never tried that so don't know anything about that one. emoticon

I get my deep ones at Sam's club and the flat sheets seem to have a bit extra to them, too--- but they are not cheap---but best price that I have found---I have to get sheets for 20 inch deep to get the fitted to stay in place.

ELMA1913 7/20/2013 8:38AM

I have to feel the sheets too before I buy them! And they are expensive. I really dislike having to go buy any, but I need to do that also! Hoping someone has them on sale soon - every little bit helps with the budget. Good luck on your search, because I know buying separate ones are hard to do - seems like they are only in "sets".

I hear ya! I currently have 3 different sized beds in my house and I haven't bought new sheets in years! Fortunately, DH's aunt bought some that she didn't like and gave them to us--that's saves a lot of $$, as sheets ar expensive!
