DH and I have been working part of one day a week with second graders. They have been so much fun, it didn't seem at all like work. We're through for this school year, so I'm going to miss them a lot.
The highlight of the year could be the "Fancy Nancy" day, which was yesterday. Fancy Nancy is the star of some really cute kids' books. Anyway, back to Fancy Nancy day - The 2nd grade teachers and students dressed up, some in really nice clothes, and some in interesting costumes. They sat in groups of 4 or 5 students, along with whatever parents or grandparents who wanted to attend. (And us )
To begin the event, the students strutted across the stage one at a time, their teacher introducing them. The girls curtseyed, and the boys bowed. Then they all sat down and took turns reading assignments from the year. At the end, refreshments were made available for everyone.
The students drew and colored pictures to go along with each of their stories, and some of them are quite imaginative and good artists.
During the reading time, "our" teacher brought a present to me - it's a straight-sided vase with flowers in it. The glass vase was decorated by the students, who dipped their thumbs into various colors of paint. Then they made their thumbprints into animals. I stuffed the vase with some skeins of white yarn and took pictures. Let's see if I can attach them, as well as a couple of pictures of the kids.

My oldest grandson (Josh) plays Little League baseball and plays on a travel tournament team. They play some weekends, and always travel. This weekend they're playing about a 2 hr drive from home. DH and I went up there yesterday and were able to watch Josh's team play 2 games. They lost the first game, then we waited a few hours before they played again. The second one was an exciting game, and at the end (called because there was another game to be played on that field) the teams were tied 10-10. These are 13 yr olds.
Seeding and advancing in play are based not only on winning games, but also on how many runs are scored against you. Josh's team didn't win a game yesterday, but they had fewer runs scored against them than some teams did. (One team lost their first game 25 to zip).
DH and I had to return home last night because we had church responsibilities today.
Our dau left a message while we were out today, that Josh's team won 14-3 this morning. They're playing another game now, and may advance from there. Can you hear me cheering long distance?
I so much enjoy watching Josh play. He's been very focused on baseball since before he was in T-Ball, and plays rather well, being the best catcher I've seen on a kid's team.
Grandma's proud.....could you tell?

This devotion comes from Sarah Young, written in "Jesus Calling" as if Jesus is speaking directly to you. Scriptures are from NIV
"Thank Me for your problems. As soon as your mind gets snagged on a difficulty, bring it to Me with thanksgiving. Then ask Me to show you My way to handle the situation. The very act of thanking Me releases your mind from its negative focus. As you turn your attention to Me, the problem fades in significance and loses its power to trip you up. Together we can deal with the situation, either facing it head-on or putting it aside for later consideration.
Most of the situations that entangle your mind are not today's concern; you have borrowed them from tomorrow. In this case, I lift the problems out of today and deposit it in the future, where is it veiled from your eyes. In its place I give you My Peace, which flows freely from My Presence."
Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

This is a devotion taken from "Jesus Calling" written by Sarah Young. It reads as if Jesus is speaking to you. All scripture is taken from the NIV
"Do not resist or run from the difficulties in your life. These problems are not random mistakes; they are hand-tailored blessings designed for your benefit and growth. Embrace all the circumstances that I allow in your life, trusting Me to bring good out of them. View problems as opportunities to rely more fully on Me.
When you start to feel stressed, let those feelings alert you to your need for Me. Thus, your needs become doorways to deep dependence on Me and increasing intimacy between us. Although self-sufficiency is acclaimed in the world, reliance on Me produces abundant living in My kingdom. Thank Me for the difficulties in your life, since they provide protection from the idolatry of self-reliance."
John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
2 Corinthians 1:8-9 "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. In deed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead."
Ephesians 5:20-21 "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

The following devotional is taken from "Jesus Calling" - a book written by Sarah Young, in such a way as if Jesus were talking to you.
"Do not long for the absence of problems in your life. That is an unrealistic goal, since in this world you will have trouble. You have an eternity of problem-free living reserved for you in heaven. Rejoice in that inheritance, which no one can take away from you, but do not seek your heaven on earth.
Begin each day anticipating problems, asking Me to equip you for whatever difficulties you will encounter. The best equipping is My living Presence, My hand that never lets go of yours. Discuss everything with Me. Take a lighthearted view of trouble, seeing it as a challenge that you and I together can handle. Remember that I am on your side, and I have overcome the world."
John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Isaiah 41:13 "For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you."
Philippians 4:13 "I can do everything through Him who gives me strength."
