The Dreaded Shot

Monday, April 23, 2012

Thank you all for your patience with me over the past 4-1/2 months, about my knee. I got my gel shot this morning. I hate needles, and it was into my knee, so I was dreading it. Besides that, it's a gel, not a liquid, so I was fearful.

I finally sat myself down this morning and told God that I had to give it to Him, because I was becoming very anxious, etc. I felt much better. God does that for us when we give things to Him.

The dr sprayed something on my knee to freeze it, but even so, the needle did hurt some. The worst of it was the (thick) gel going into my knee, and even that wasn't unbearable. I found out when I got home and looked it up on the internet that I'm not supposed to be on my leg much for the first 48 hours - which is a real laugh, because my job tomorrow at the poll is to be on my feet, taking care of the voting machines. Oh well. I'll sit when I can.

It'll take the best part of 4 weeks for this gel to be fully effective, but it should start helping after just a few days.

A very dear friend emailed a picture of her hand so I could squeeze it when I got the shot. emoticon She is such a thoughtful friend.

Like many other parts of the hemisphere, we're experiencing near winter. The high today is to be 45 degrees F, and while we've been getting rain since Saturday night, we might get some snow between now and mid-day tomorrow. Go figure!

Y'all 'need' to go to YATMAMA's blog about Herman. I laughed 'til I cried.

Have a great evening, and a fantastic week.

I've had injections in my heels and in my back. The ones in the heel hurt the most because the anesthesia can only go in so far. So I do feel your pain and hope this treatment helps ease that pain for you. Isn't it nice to have medical treatments available to help get us back to a semblance of normal when it's available? Thanks for caring and helping with the voting. -- Lou

I'm so glad it went alright. I often find that the anticipation of a procedure is much worse than the procedure itself. Perhaps there will be a stool near the voting machines that you can perch on for some relief!

Hoping that the shot starts to give you some relief soon. I have never had one of those shots, but DH has in his elbows and he isn't happy afterwards but it did help.
Try to take it as easy as you can tomorrow.

I hope you do get to put your leg up though and don't damage it tomorrow. Wouldn't want to go back through that dreaded needle, LOL.

I understand your fear of the shot, I would have been terrified. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as you expected. I hope it helps soon.

I'm glad the shot went better than expected. Now I'll pray that it only does take a few days to start working.
What a thoughtful friend indeed! How sweet!
Wow, it's 70 and sunny here, just try to focus on that:)

Piano concert in Washington, D.C.

Sunday, April 22, 2012

Good Sunday, Y'all,

Last eve DH and I drove 2 hr to Washington, D.C. to a reception and concert. Miss Fan-Ya Lin is a junior at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. Born in Taiwan, she started piano lessons at the age of four. She decined admission offers from Julliard and another internationally renowned music conservatory to attend Weber State. Since coming to Weber, she has placed first in many prestigious competitions, including taking first place in the 2010 Music Teachers National Association Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition. Ms. Lin donated the Steinway piano she won to Weber State University.

We sat entralled as she played several classical pieces. So yes, the two hours each way in the car were well worth it. If you ever get the opportunity to listen to Ms. Lin, either in person or on CD, don't miss it.

Because of that trip, we were not able to attend Tyler's ballgame. Yesterday was opening day, team picture day, several games played day. The baseball complex was a madhouse. We made (12 yr) Josh's game yesterday morning, only to see them lose. emoticon Josh is a strong player, and does well in several positions, but he shines as catcher. I'm really looking forward to a few months of watching him play. Tyler (9 yr) doesn't do as well, but it's fun to watch his games, too.

I couldn't make it to church today, which made me sad because I appreciate the fellowship and our pastor's sermons on Ephesians. My knee is acting up a lot this morning, but the ice bag and I are fast friends. Oh well, God does know what He's doing by allowing this, and allowing it to drag on and on. I do see my ortho dr tomorrow, so maybe we can do something to make it better.

I miss being able to exercise as I want to; but am using the treadmill (S-l-o-w-l-y) and some strength training exercises. Must be why I've stayed the same weight. Well, this, too, will pass. Meanwhile, I'm learning to love myself no matter how I look. And that's an important thing.

Blessings on you all.

Sounds like you really enjoyed the concert. So glad you were able to make this trip and hope the dr can shed some light on the knee. Have a wonderful week.

What a treat to see Ms. Lin play! So glad you got to go.
I hope Josh and Tyler have a fun season even if their teams don't do so well.
Sorry you couldn't make it to church. I don't have to tell you God loves you wherever you are or aren't. I forgot to mention on the thread that I loved what you said the other day about striving to be Christ-like. I keep thinking about that! emoticon

Little League and This and That

Saturday, April 21, 2012

Today is opening day (and team picture day) for little league. The ball complex was every bit as crazy busy/crowded as I figured it would be. DH and I didn't go for the opening ceremonies, but we got there before Josh's team started playing. Josh was catcher - a job he does VERY WELL....and that's not just grandma speaking. Unforunately, the 'Dodgers' lost their first game. Well, you figure half of the teams that play today have to lose. emoticon

Josh's younger brother plays later this afternoon - if the rain holds off. Now understand, I'd love for them to play, but we're pushing drought conditions. And that after last year's over-abundance of rain. Snow and rain normally run about 36 inches - last year we got slightly over 71 inches. I wondered if we were going to sweep out to sea - and we're MILES from it. LOL Right now, they're predicting rain (some of it heavy) thru Tuesday.

Speaking of Tuesday, that's election day, and I urge you to go out and vote (just once).

DH and I will be working at the polls, and what long day it will be! Maybe I can blog it on Wednesday.

I hope you all will worship in the church of your choice. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hope you got the games in and then some much needed rain. We know what that is like, we are in the extreme category down here. We got a light rain today but not what they predicted which makes me sad.

I hope the team catches up with Josh. Sorry, you know I couldn't resist the pun. Hope you get rain, I wish I could send you some of ours.
Hmm, we vote by mail but I didn't get a ballot yet. Thanks for the reminder.
Have a beautiful celebration at your church too!

Voting is so, so important and I appreciate that you mentioned it. So few people are vocally encourage others to do so. I do believe that my friends and family get sick of me filling them all in with our local politics but, now more than ever, it is essential! Glad you had a nice day at the games and I concurr about the rain. We are so dry here in NH. I was shocked that the family that lives behind our house (small strip of woods between the two yards, has a bonfire tonight. Dumb! Especially as it is very windy on top of it. Here's hoping they don't set my house on fire!~

Skein, Hanks of yarn

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Someone asked me what a 'hank' is, and when I tried to describe it, words failed me. Since a picture is worth 1,000 words - here's the picture. (on Spark Page)

School today (need to wash my hair posthaste). No school tomorrow because they have an early dismissal (at least once a month!!). Have a great day, everyone. emoticon

Oh how I wish we lived closer so you could help me improve on the crocheting my granny's taught me.
Hope school was fun and hair was washed, lol!
Thanks for your concern about the caffeine headaches, I was worried about that too because I didn't want them to pile up on top of the fever headaches I already had, so I made sure and started early on the green tea and fever reducers. Seems to be helping a lot. Thanks Nancy! Have a most wonderful Wednesday. emoticon

Warning! Whine, whine, whine

Sunday, April 08, 2012

Warning. This blog starts with a lot of whining....

At my annual physical a couple of months ago, I was told I'd lost another 1/2 inch in height....that makes a total of 1 inch over three years. I finally got my DH to measure me today, and I really DID lose a half inch this past year. I cried awhile, then wiped my tears. I'm upset because I've been taking extra calcium and Vitamin D for years now - why, how could this happen? I feel powerless to do anything about my life - I'm shrinking, my knee hurts, I'm tons over-weight, whine, whine, whine. emoticon

So, I've decided to do what I can. I spent 30 minutes on the treadmill this evening, at the whopping great speed of 2 miles per hour, then did some strength training. The heck with pain. I'll be using an ice pack shortly on the knee.

I've been tweaking my food intake somewhat, but will have to do better (yes, I track on SP). And I'll try to love myself as I am, not as I want to be.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Good going for not giving up. Some days our pain prevents us from exercising but if we do what we can on our good days, we have been successful. Hope your pain goes away soon. -- Lou

I had the same issue a few years ago with losing height... lost a whole inch... just had a bone density last week... now I have osteoporosis in my lower spine... the doctor's orders are to take strontium which helps absorb calcium, take vitamin D, magnesium and do weight bearing exercises, which I can't do much of because of a bad shoulder, and upright exercise, such as running and walking.

Osteoporosis can be reversed with hard work. We can do it!!

I think no matter what, it is a fact of life that we just get shorter as we age. My dad used to be 5'7" and by the time he passed away, I don't think he was even 5'1".
I hope you don't overstress your body, but do whatever you can.
You can vent here ANYTIME-that is what we are here for!!!

Nancy, I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I don't blame you for venting and/or whining, but I just think of it as being frustrated with the aging process, which is understandable. Do what you can to make yourself feel better. No matter what, I'm still convinced you're hiding wings and I think you're a wonderful friend:-)
