I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. I won't be online as much the next seven days - my daughter and her family will be here for Christmas.

Be safe, be happy, and remember that Christmas is for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

My Wonderful Spark Friends,

I saw the ortho doc this morning, and have an MRI scheduled for tomorrow. Then I see him again for a consult about the MRI, but not until Jan - his 1st avail appt to see me again. THEN we'll schedule arthroscopic surgery, as my dr feels that that is called for. (The MRI is just to see what all is damaged).

Due to some stuff in my life, I won't be able to get surgery until early February - but at least I am confident that I can get it then. Meanwhile, my knee brace, cane and ice pack are my new (long-term) best friends. : )

While I wouldn't have chosen to have developed Bipolar Disorder or a torn meniscus, and especially at this time of year, at least God provides the medical help I need, and I am most grateful to Him. Re: the BD - I'm doing VERY WELL, thank you.

I'm so thankful God loves me so much that He sent His only begotten Son to come as a fully-divine/fully human man to take my punishment on the cross. God loves each one of you as much, too. The cliche is "Jesus is the reason for the season" but it is so true.

Have a Merry Christmas, everyone.

Graduation and other things

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Sad news first - my knee is not responding to the shot, and I'll be seeing the ortho dr again on Monday. I'm afraid all that's left is surgery, and I'm not looking forward to the recovery time. I very well may not be able to participate in the 5K run in (probably) April to support the no-kill animal shelter where we volunteer. BUT, I'm going to take it one day at a time.

Happy news: My youngest graduated last night from LPN school. She does still have to take state boards to be certified, but she made it thru the year's schooling!
getting pinned - has diploma in hand.

proud graduate after ceremony

Nah, Mom's not very proud. HA!

I have a busy weekend, starting today with a noon basketball game with the 6th graders (my grandson), then a party for DD at 2 at our house. Tomorrow is Sunday School and church, followed by another basketball game at 1, then 4:30 at someone else's house for small group meeting. Whew! emoticon

Wow - look at all the wonderful things going on in your life! You and your family are so blesed emoticon Sorry your knee is being the proverbial party pooper in the whole mix! Maybe you'd only need orthoscopic surgery? I hope it won't have to be too invasive. My DH has knee problems and is avoiding the doc at all costs - I hope it doesn't create more problems for him.

Let us all know how you make out at the doctors today and best of luck - you're in my prayers and thoughts.

Good luck with the knee, mine came out so-so. Mom was a nurse and the cap and dress remind me of when she practiced. Merry Christmas.

Leg update and other stuff

Friday, December 09, 2011

Good morning all,

Ok, it's not a torn ligament - I've torn my medial meniscus (cartilage). We're starting out with a (cortisone substitute) Depo Medrol shot. If that doesn't do the trick, then I may opt for surgery - but I'm counting on the shot to take care of the pain.

That's the good news.

No, there's no bad news at this point. emoticon I'm in a good mood, and things are coming together just fine for the month of December.....finished with Christmas cards and got them mailed last week, finished gift shopping and have everything wrapped, finished indoor decorating, etc, etc. It doesn't always come together this well so quickly, so I'm celebrating the good fortune.

I'll see my psyc. dr in awhile and then we'll grocery shop. I'm already planning to use one of the motorized carts because of my knee - I've used one before and it's a bit awkward, but so much better than trying (and failing) to tolerate leg pain.

God has blessed me with a wonderful husband. I didn't always think so, and occasionaly now things aren't hunky-dorey, but after 42+ years of marriage, we seem to have worked things out and he's so supportive. I'm sure having a wife with Bipolar Disorder is no picnic; but the meds are doing a lovely job, and I feel human and almost whole again. Praise the Lord for His merciful goodness and for instilling knowledge into dr's to help.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Nancy, it's so good to hear that you're doing OK. I, too, have a very understanding and loving husband. I am so blessed, that is for sure. I was at my counselor's office yesterday at the university where I work, and another blessing of mine was that my doctor treating me for ADHD is just across the hall. My counselor thought I should change my meds, so she said, "Why don't we just go over there together right now?" How nice was THAT!? It sure made things more simple!

Have a wonderful weekend! emoticon

I want to thank each of you for your comments on our decorations. I see that my pics of the (artificial) tree don't show all the ornaments I have on it very well. emoticon No matter. I grew up with a Christmas tree that had lots of different ornaments, and that's what I've continued in our lives.

We also started something when the girls were little - we gave them ornaments each year, and when they married and left home, their ornaments went with them - as a head start on their own Christmas trees. That's one reason we've continued the tradition, but using the Li Bien ornaments - our dau and their DH's get an ornament, and each grandchild gets one, too.

Several Septembers ago, we rented a huge house on the Outer Banks of No. Carolina, and had all the kids and the 3 grands we had at that time join us. The weather was perfect and we had a wonderful time. That Christmas, the girls gave me a Li Bien ornament with several of the Outer Banks lighthouses painted on it. How very special.

Thank you, again, for your lovely comments on my blog from yesterday.

How very special. I think giving something that everyone can treasure like an ornament is a wonderful idea. I used to do it when we lived close - I liked to pick up ornaments from places we visited when we lived on the road. Since we aren't with the kids/grandkids for Christmas, I don't know if they still have or use them or not. I also would send the grandkids postcards from places we visited all over the US-thought it would be a history lesson (sort of at least),
