I refuse to think (much) about the snow

Monday, February 15, 2010

It is supposed to start around the evening rush hour (why not!) and by tomorrow, we're to have upwards of 6 inches of new snow.

Trying to find something good to say about it, I told my DH this a.m. that it will be nice to have a white covering over the dirty snowbanks along side the roads. Also, this WILL help our water table. That's the best I could come up with.

Happy Presidents' Day, folks. We celebrated this a.m. by going bowling with one of our dau (the other couldn't make it) and her 2 boys plus one of their friends. Josh (my grdsn) and Antonio are 4th graders, and two sweet boys. Tyler (kindergarten) did quite well....sort of. LOL He uses the lane bumpers or he wouldn't knock down any pins. The 'gang' of us had a good time, and don't you know, bowling racks up a lot of calories burned! : )

I gained another lb this week - and don't really know why. Maybe changing up my cardio a little will help. Went bowling today, plan to TRY to jump rope tomorrow b4 getting on the treadmill, and will have to dream up some other ideas. When I'm on the treadmill, I warm up, then walk at 4 mph, drop back a little for a few minutes, then try 4.5 mph. Yes, I know some of y'all think I'm such a sissy, but I'm doing SO MUCH better now than I could 6 mos ago. I think my increased exercising (and eating better) contributed to being able to bowl 3 games in a row w/out wearing out. I used to manage only 2 games b4 I cried 'uncle'.

My DH took me to dinner Sat night (instead of Sun) but apparently everybody else went then, too. We wanted Olive Garden, but there was a TWO HOUR wait!! And that was arriving there shortly after 4:30 p.m. Who'd a thunk it? So, we're going to try again tonight.

I've been good w/my eating so far today (yes, I've had lunch) and will attempt a decent showing at dinner tonight, most likely bringing some of it home for tomorrow's lunch. Or maybe I'll indulge and have the leftover for breakfast. I'm not stuck on having only cereal, eggs, or other 'breakfast' food for breakfast. If it's good for some meal, it's good for breakfast, too. emoticon

I thank God for the various things He's been showing me lately about myself. I'm not ready to share specifics, but just know that I have been 'spoken to' by God about some of my attitudes. And I can see His powerful work in relationships. Praise the Lord! God promised to finish the good work He started in me; He doesn't give up on me! (Philippians 1:6)

God bless you all.

I think your exercise sounds awesome. I just creeping up to 3 miles per hour. But I'll get faster, I know, just like you did.

Maybe if I just ignore weather predictions.....

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Maybe if I just ignore weather predictions they won't come true. Now we're going told that being 'touched' by the snow storm on Monday (into Tues) will net us about 3 more inches of the evil white stuff. I'm still waiting for the sun to melt what we have off the roof!

Oh, well, guess what I really need is to go shopping. heh-heh. Actually, I do have a few small items I need and today's a good a time as any, better than some we've had lately for getting out.

Now, I know y'all who live where it always snows big-time think I'm making much over a little, but this has been a lot for us in a short amt of time. I do know it could be much, much worse.

Take care of you, stay warm (and dry) and I'll blog again another day.

The weather is all relative to what we're used to, isn't it? Three inches can be pretty dangerous for people not accustomed to it. Be safe and warm. -- Lou

    I'm tired of snow, too.
I live in northeast Ohio and we get the lake-effect snow from Lake Erie.
I just want to see green grass and blooming flowers!

My dau told me last night that her (3 yr old) son is over the flu. PRAISE THE LORD! Apparently Tamaflu has something to do w/it, too; but the praise belongs to the Lord, because if He didn't will it, it wouldn't have happened, or so quickly.

We're still having winds, altho' they can't hold a candle to what we had the past few days. Another reason to thank God.

And the generally realiable weather forecaster just said that we MIGHT get 'touched' by the next snow on Monday.....his lips to God's ear, please! Frankly, if it didn't snow again this winter, I probably wouldn't mind too much. Sorry, I wasn't going to complain tonight.

We're doing well. My two PA kids and families are doing well. My York (PA) dau's DH made it safely to work on Wednesday, and home again since. : ) Another thanks to God.

Are you getting the idea that I'm praising and thanking God for His ABUNDANT blessing to us?!!!
emoticon

I spent 56 minutes on the treadmill today, going various speeds, and SP says I burned a lot of calories. As if I hadn't guessed. : ) Then I spent some time doing strength exercises. Oooff! I got out of shape these past several weeks. Guess what I'll be doing more of in the days ahead.

And celebration: I stayed w/in my nutrition goals today, getting several servings of fruit/veggies. I missed protein by 4 grams, but I'm not concerned. It's just one day.

Thank you all for all your encouragement. I couldn't do so well w/out it.

Wed afternoon about 2 pm

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

This snowstorm is probably worse than the one we got over the weekend. My DH went out this morning and made a few swipes with the snow thrower, only to find our drive covered in another 2 or 3 inches by the time he'd swiped at the neighbor's drive. I'm hoping he will stay in until tonight or tomorrow a.m.

No only did we get wetter snow starting yesterday afternoon, but now that it's less wet, the wind is blowing it into HUGE drifts! The wind is expected to be steady at 25 or so mph, w/gusts upwards of 35-40 mph.

We're hoping the snow will stop by evening, and the wind is to die down sometime tonight. sigh. I really have no way of knowing how many inches this time (on top of the 20-22" we got on the weekend), but before the wind picked up, I figured we had about a foot of new snow. And it's been coming down like there's no tomorrow.

Fortunately, "I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know He holds my hand...."

I am somewhat concerned about my EMT s-i-l. This time he didn't leave a day early for work, not leaving home until 10 a.m. today. (He was due in at 2). Once again, the snow has been coming from the south, and the Governor closed all the highways in our part of the state. Brian has to drive nearly an hour (in good conditions) to get to work, and as of noon, his wife hadn't heard anything from him. I hope that means he made it safely to the firestation. My dau didn't seem too concerned, but I'm thinking that was for my benefit. sigh.

Ok, enuf horror stories. We have electricity, food, and toilet paper :- ) and God is in Control. He will carry us thru as He sees fit.

All the rest of you who are suffering in this storm, stay home, stay inside, keep warm! I may just go back to bed!

(groaning) You guys are really getting socked with this one! I heard the wind all through the night and it's still blowing but the snow has stopped. I think we got maybe 3 more inches but it's hard to really judge with the wind blowing it everywhere! I got all our paths, porches, and the deck shoveled off and the flat part of the drive out to the top of the driveway hill which dh said he'd do with the blower. Keeping the outside birds fed has been fun! We have LOTS of birds today!

!!!! emoticon!!! It came and went in the time it took me to find the icon but it was nice to see!!

I am going to take out more oil sunflower seeds and take the rest of the afternoon "off." I'z tarrd! emoticon

more snow!

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

We're bracing for a 2nd snowstorm. They're predicting 10 or more inches on top of the 20 or so we got over the weekend. My DH and I are rescheduling the medical appts we had for tomorrow because the storm is to start this afternoon and run thru tomorrow eve.

Stay warm, everyone!

We got only 4 so far but there is more due after 9pm. We've had a lot of snow this winter...more than in several winters... but about what it used to be before the last active solar cycle. We'll probably have a few snowy winters and then the sun will go through an active cycle and it will get warmer. I think the solar cycles run around 11 years in duration if I recall correctly.

Anyway, I enjoyed getting out to shovel. We had a nice interlude and the sun even came out for a brief moment or two. I earned over 500 calories in my venture and, while I'm a little tired, I feel great! It's relatively warm at 32 degrees and wonderful working weather!

Hope you don't get too much! It is starting to stack up here and we've had much less than you!!
