Sniff, sniffle, sneeze

Sunday, December 27, 2009

As hard as I tried to not do it, I managed to catch my husband's cold. Nuts!

I'm taking aspirin for the miseries and headache, and continuing extra Vit C to help my body heal. Haven't decided whether or not to exercise at all today. May give myself the whole day off.

I'm planning to watch my nutrition intake, though. In fact, it's about time for a snack. Mmmm, fat-free yogurt sounds good. Maybe with a piece of whole wheat toast sans butter.

Y'all take care of yourselves out there!

We usually cut way back on the dairy products during a mucusy cold. I don't know if that is fact or fiction, but that was one of the things mom always did for us.

Bless your heart, Nancy! I hate that you caught that after working diligently to NOT catch it! Hope you will be able to relax and stick with healthy foods that will make you feel better and your mental state sounds ready to do just that!

Hoo boy, it is REALLY snowing here now!

Merry Christmas to all!

Friday, December 25, 2009

I hope your Christmas is wonderful.

I had a goal to be down to 150 lbs by Christmas - very reasonable goal. But, I allowed depression and stress to 'cause' me to eat emotionally and I didn't even get as much exercise as usual in these past 4 weeks. Consequently, I didn't make my goal.

Now for the good news: With God's help (and knowing that others are praying for me, too) I'm turning my back on that and moving forward - or as Paul wrote in his epistle, "Leaving that which is behind, I press on towards the mark (my weight/eating goals)..." Granted, Paul wasn't talking about healthy PHYSICAL lifestyles, but the idea is the same. I refuse to let my downs/bads of the past few weeks derail me from my ultimate goal of good health (as far as I can influence it), and a lower weight.

Bob gave me the 5# dumbbells I wanted for Christmas, and our new treadmill is to be delivered next week, so along with my renewed determination, I AM ON MY WAY TO WINNING THE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE!

Closing this blog now - on our way to our daughter's for dinner, and enjoyment with our PA family. Trying to not miss our MS dau/family TOOOO much! : D

God's richest blessings on you all.

This year was hard on my weight loss efforts as well. The good news is that with every waking day is another chance to try harder and do better. Trust God and you will succeed.

Beautiful sunny day!

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Our trip to the animal shelter with the boys was good. Tyler had a blast petting the kitties (they're about 9 mos old) while I cleaned their room. Tyler wanted to help, so I put him to work picking up the little toys, let him mop a little and he helped carry the 'cleaned' litter boxes back to their place after I'd finished the floor. Grandma's little helper. He loves cats.

After we came home, we baked gingerbread men and then went out to lunch. I had a root beer (no caffine, but empty calories, I know) and a Whopper Jr. Again, maybe not the best choice, but I had a real 'taste' for the burger, and I've been tracking my food all day. Had a good breakfast: oatmeal with raisins.

Tonight is candlelight services and afterwards my husband will drive the church van riders to see the Hershey Christmas lights - all 2 miles of them. Really cool displays - the usual Santa, reindeer, etc, plus a Victorian section, fantasyland section, and others. We went with our small group last week. The van riders don't drive, so they rely on someone else to take them places. We thought this would be a real neat treat for them, and us.

I refuse to even THINK about the freezing rain we'll get late tonight into tomorrow. It's to warm up enuf to just be rain during the day. But again, you'll notice that I'm refusing to even think about it. LOL

Merry Christmas everyone.

Again, thank you for your service to our sheltered pets and for setting such a positive example for the boys. I'm sure those who go to view the light displays will be grateful for the ride. Thank you, too, for caring about others so much. Merry Christmas. -- Lou

Today's high got all the way up to the low 20's! Brrrr!!!

I'm sorry that we're to get a 'wintery mix' late, late tomorrow night and have it turn into rain on Christmas Day. I've been enjoying seeing the snow on the ground. Well, there's lots of winter left for more of the white stuff. The naked trees look great with their covering of snow.

We got the snow blower fixed, so we're ready for more snow. It was good exercise, but LOTS OF SWEAT to clear those 12+ inches off the driveway this past weekend.

Tomorrow is our time at the animal shelter and we'll be taking our two local grandsons because their babysitter has Christmas Eve (and New Year's Eve) off. The older boy likes to walk dogs with his Grandpa and the younger one is looking forward to playing with the kitties while I clean their room. : ) Planning to bake gingerbread men when we get home. Hope the boys LIKE gingerbread. LOL

ordered a new treadmill! - updated

Monday, December 21, 2009

Found a treadmill that I want; but the store was out of stock. HOWEVER, they expect to be able to deliver it either late next week or shortly after the 1st. I'm SO excited. Walking around inside my house makes me dizzy! emoticon

I confess to not getting much exercise today - still 'living off' the unexpected GREAT amount of calorie burn I got shoveling snow the past two days. LOL

Beautiful sunshine again today. Praise the Lord!

UPDATE: Thank you all for your responses. It'a Nordictrack - I don't remember the model, but it isn't a real complex one. It does have iFIT capability, and I don't know if I'll ever use that, but who knows. Maybe some day I'll decide to do that, too.

emoticonGood for you!! That is exciting! My treadmill has a broken place on the cog that makes the incline work and it is looking like we will have to buy a whole new motor as they don't show that part separately. Couldn't get anyone on customer service today so hoping to tomorrow. I can use it flat but that really doesn't get my heart rate up much anymore. I sure miss it!

A treadmill is so great, especially when the weather isn't good enough to go outdoors. Plus, you can watch videos or TV while you walk. Good for you. -- Lou

Know what you mean about going in circles. Did that when I rode my three wheeler and then started going down to the lake. That was more fun than going around my neighborhood (it's a rectangle) with one way in and one way out. So I did not have to worry about traffic too much but when I go to the lake I have to cross two intersections. One is ok but the other one the drivers seem like they want to run me over. Not all of them just some.. Have a great time working out on your new treadmill. We don't get snow but if we did it probly would be gone by lunch time. (Florida) emoticon
