Eph 4: 27 " and give no place to the devil."
Giving place to something means space or occupancy, opportunity, or room; it's giving something your attention. It also means a spot, as in a space or location, a position, home, or condition or a title. Not giving place means you don't recognize it, pay attention to it, or follow in its way or path. I like to picture it as (in this case) the devil knocking on my door, wanting a place, and I just don't answer the door. I don't do what the neighbors do at halloween.
There is a Jokes-R-Wild store up the road from where I live and every year about the beginning of October the business picks up. The parking lot gets so full people park all along the road just to get their halloween things. If only they realized what they were doing, maybe some of them would stop.
If your priest asks for people to pray for who are dead tell him to stop. He is practicing a pagan ritual. Please read on and you'll see why you shouldn't pray for dead souls. If you don't believe this, please go and read Luke 16: 19-31. And note that Jesus didn't say it was a parable. It was a real experience He spoke of.
Halloween is a celebration of satan. Millions of children will unknowingly "give place to the devil" on Oct 31st. Thousands of churches will sponsor parties replete with cutouts of witches and other symbols of the occult, or they will offer something different to disguise it and say it's Christian. It's still giving place!
Halloween symbols appeared in the United States during the late 1800's. Among these were figures of witches, black cats, a death's head cut from a pumpkin, candles, bobbing apples, masks, parties, and pranks.
The celebration of Halloween has been traced to the Roman Festival of Druids--Roman pagans praying for the dead. History tells us that a Druid god, Samhain, lord of the dead, was honored at Halloween in Britain, France, Germany, and the Celtic countries. Samhain called together all wicked souls who died within the past year that were destined to inhabit animals. The Druids believed that on this particular night the souls of the dead returned to their former homes to be entertained by the living. Bonfires were built on hilltops to light the way for the dead. Suitable food and shelter had to be provided for these spirits or they would cast spells, steal infants, destroy crops, kill farm animals and create terror as they haunted the living. These spirits demanded to be worshiped.
The festival included the use of nuts, apples, skeletons, witches, and black cats. divination auguries, and magic were practiced, seeking knowledge of future events. Black cats were regarded as reincarnated beings able to divine the future. Supernatural beings terrified the people. Practitioners of witchcraft still declare October 31 is the best day to practice their black arts.
The Christian Church tried to eliminate the Druid celebration by changing the name of Halloween to All Saint's Day. The church also attempted, unsuccessfully, to replace the pagan cult worship of Apollo, Diana, and Ymir. The outward forms of such worship disappeared, but the belief in the deities did not. These deistic cults held periodic meetings know as witches Sabbaths, the most important one being October 31.
Pranks and mischief represented the mischievous behavior attributes of witches and fairies. The "trick or treat" came from ancient Druid practice.
One of the basic tenets of witchcraft is the the practicing in which to gain control, by force if necessary, over the behavior of others. When one threatens another, even in jest, they will bear a consequence if a treat isn't given, it is complying with an occult practice that is opposed to Scripture. We are to have no part in the deeds of darkness. Deuteronomy 18: 10-12 forbids us to participate in anything of the occult; it is an abomination to God. "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer or on who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord: and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God."
Christians, I ask you--are you allowing your children to go out "trick or treating?" Now that you know the truth about this, will you still allow them to go get candy? "O, it's just innocent fun, a chance for the kids to dress up, look cute and get candy" you may say. No, it isn't innocent. It's puts a curse on you and your children and you wonder why kids are the way they are today! Look at what they are being taught--or not being taught. If your kid insists on candy, then buy them a candy bar, but leave the devil out of it. What kind of example are you going to be to your children? And what kind of example will they follow and teach their children?
How can practicing the things of Halloween NOT be giving place or room or attention to the devil? Who do you identify with?
Halloween is to satan what Christmas is to Christ.
Who will you glorify?

I have a friend whose granddaughter is a "friend" of mine on another website. This girl has done a lot of harm to her family. I won't go into detail but one of the family members was accused of something and it got really ugly and they all ended up in court. The one involved was found not guilty. So the "friend" gets on this other website and makes a remark about her family issue. I commented that she was the one who created the issue. She then commented back, Not knowing who I am, and started swearing and cursing me, and calling me names. Well, I went back on and commented in so many words that if she wanted to play adult "games" she should be prepared to take the consequences like an adult. That's when the s&*&%t hit the fan!
My friend called me. I didn't recognize the number b/c her name didn't come up on the caller ID so I didn't answer. She left a message demanding that I immediately delete my comments and that if so and so finds out who it is that commented, there could be trouble blah, blah, blah. WHY IS IT THAT PEOPLE CANNOT BEAR TO HEAR THE TRUTH?? I wasn't being nasty or anything near that. Just matter of fact, gently. My phone rang and rang and rang. It was pure harassment. I didn't answer it. Finally I got MAD. The website is a public "place" and I did nothing to warrant all the phone calls, etc. Why is it that someone can say anything they want to say on the Internet and the minute someone responds, that person is attacked? I just can't believe it. What ever happened to freedom of speech?

Well, here I am 60 pounds lighter and you'd think I could be happy with that. In a sense I am happy that I got farther than I thought I actually could. But still there's that "ultimate" goal before me and I seem to be hovering at the same weight.
For one thing, I have bad arthritis all through my body but it's worse in my SI joints. These are the two joints that connect your pelvis with your spine in the lower back. I've been treated with shots and ablations. Now that last treatment went well and it's been over or about a year ago I had both sides done. I haven't been able to walk as well lately and after sitting for a while at this desk, I start to really hurt. Pain pills do nothing for this because it's nerve pain and unless I want to be dopey all day, well I just don't want to take the chance driving while under near-sedation! Sleep Apnea is enough with daytime sleepiness, thank you anyway, I'll pass.
I did go to my doctor about it and he prescribed Flexoril but that only helps a little with the muscle lock-up. Stretching helps more than anything. So I modify my workouts if I do them at all and do the stretching, hoping for some relief. This is how it is when arthritis takes a disliking to you! And damp days like today are the worst. I don't know why humidity and I just don't get along.
I hope in my lifetime they could actually find a cure for arthritis and degenerative disc disease because I sure could use one...or both! It zaps my energy and ability to move like I want to move and although this may sound like an excuse, it's really not. I miss working out and I miss being able to move freely. It was the one thing I could count on to get the weight off and stay off. As it is now, I hover. A little up, then down, then a pound up, a pound down. I think I'll look into the support group at the hospital. Maybe there's an answer to my "dilemma".

"He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters."
Sheep need a lot of grazing room, a lot of greens to be nutritionally satisfied and fed properly. Sheep are mainly plant eating animals and they spend much of their time eating and then ruminating or chewing their cud. They like to graze and then, like people after a big Thanksgiving dinner, stretch out on the couch and let all that good stuff digest!
Sheep, like people, seek a place of rest and relaxation. Sadly, in our world today, little "R & R" is found. The shepherd makes the sheep comfortable and makes them lie down and rest because he knows that if they don't chew the cud, it won't digest properly and problems will follow. This cud-chewing process can take several hours a day and the shepherd knows that the sheep must be relaxed and stress-free.
David was a shepherd in Israel where the terrain is anything but lush with green pastures. Israel's pastures are mostly on hillsides holding only clumps of grass sparingly dispersed. Was David seeing things? Yes, and no. I think David was seeing the provision of the Lord likened to green pastures where sheep can graze to their heart's content and have no lack. Then, only after all the cud-chewing process is finished, the sheep will drink. Sheep prefer a pool of still water as opposed to a troubled sea of unrest. I believe David was comparing his inner life and relationship with God to that of the sheep he cared for.

Psalm 23: 1, "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want."
If we were to separate the things we have, sorting into two piles things we need and things we want, I know the "I want" pile would probably be 10 times higher than the "I need" pile. Things we want today are not necessarily the things we'll want tomorrow; and the things we need today may not be needed tomorrow, either.
What do people want most? Have you ever stopped to consider this? The majority would probably first respond with material "things" like a new car, a new house, a new boat, the newest iPod, the latest iphone. Have you ever noticed that whatever the manufacturers put out as "new" we all just have to have? Well, not all of us, but the "techies" are usually first in line.
A little child will see something in a store be it a grocery store or toy aisle in Wal-Mart and scream, "But I want this, I want this." And may even cry and stomp their feet. What goes through a kid's head at that moment? The same thing we think when we think, "I want this." It may be disguised as "I need this" when you really don't recognize the difference.
The Lord knows our needs and our wants. People need and want satisfaction. Some, more desperate for it than others, will go to great extremes to find it and at any cost. Some want riches and fame and then when they get it, they can't handle it. Not because it wasn't what they wanted, but it wasn't what they really needed.
"I shall not want." What a powerful statement. It means I won't lack for anything, I won't fail, lessen, decrease or have any cause to fall. When you have all you want, you don't need anything! Our Great Shepherd is able to supply our every need; especially the ones deep down inside that drive us to find satisfaction that only He can provide.
