There will be days like this mama said.

Monday, July 09, 2012

Don't feel like doing anything today. I didn't wake up feeling like this. I woke up pretty early, before the 7:30 alarm and had most of my SP points by 8:30. By 9 I was back in bed with a stomach ache and a headache from satan himself. I woke back up at 11:45

I am sitting here trying to talk myself into jumping into the shower and going grocery shopping. Since there is no milk in the house and I need stuff for dinner tonight you would think this would be easy. Instead I find myself thinking of alternative solutions like borrowing milk from the landlord and eating something else today. Good solution except the freezer is empty except for frozen fruit, chicken, pork chops,(just had these) and ice cubes. I have one can of Progresso Hearty Tomato Soup which I will have for lunch.

My mama said there would be days like this. I just wish she told me how to get through them. Now I am going to eat my soup and hopefully not drown myself in the shower. Monday Monday please be good to me.

I find that it's one of the perks of planning meals . . . there's ALWAYS something for meals, because when I plan my meals, I make my grocery list, so there's no excuses.

As well, I do big batch cooking for days just like you're describing.

The key, though is doing the menu planning and the grocery list together.

I have what I call my "perpeutal shopping list". It has stuff I always need like milk, eggs, lettuce . . .things like that. Then I add to it what I need for my planned menu.

Good luck, hope you feel better.

you just joined a new challenge where you plan your meals, making sure everything is balanced... don't let your "days like this" railroad your efforts to a great start with the new goal. Don't give up!
If you are able to eat tomato soup, you can go to the store and pick up the things you need to stay on your challenge goals. If when you get back from the store and you feel like laying down again, you can do that. My mother said when you hit the wall, turn around and put one foot in front of the other and repeat until the momentum is built back up- to either make it to bed, or make it your workout.
SO, turn around and put one foot in front of the other and build up some momentum... even if all you do today is get the groceries and prepare the food you planned, and then watch TV... you will have accomplished a great deal!!!! emoticon emoticon

I always think to myself, it could be worse. It can always be worse. What is the worst thing that could happen? You have a roof over your head, food in your fridge, and people in your life. Sadly, in a month, I may not be able to say the same. But, it could get worse. I could lose my job and that would be worse. So don't stress of what is, be glad it isn't what could be.

Planning meals

Sunday, July 08, 2012

I joined the Healthy Eating Challenge. You are suppose to plan your meals for the week. I've done it before, but never stuck to it. I am giving it a go again. It is difficult to balance the nutrients. Some days I am 51-54% on carbs, not bad, especially since I am now eating(drinking)4-7 servings of freggies. Love, love love the Green Monster. My Mom is so impressed that I am drinking spinach. I am surprised she hasn't tried to call Barack to tell him, or maybe she has, but I digress. I filled in this Friday and deleted it. I was at 78.9% carbs. Whoa. I was going to drink my Green Monster for breakfast, as I go to the gym on Friday. Lots of carbs, 53g. 1/2 sandwich for lunch, and a frozen dinner for dinner, I don't cook, refuse to on Friday. I might have to now, or leftovers. Love my Green Monster. emoticon TREATL.

This really does help with making a grocery list. Yoplait is on sale this week for $.50 emoticon. It is the only thing on sale this week worth buying. Last week I spent over $100.00 and earned 1,180 gas points. They have the same thing this week, spend $50.00 earn an extra 300 points. I will have no trouble(who does) spending the $50.00. Yogurt, eggs, milk, fruit, frozen vegetable(I am out) chicken, 93% ground beef poof $50.00 gone.

1CRAZYDOG if you read this, I deleted my mailbox without realizing those recipes were there until it was too late. Only when you have the time, no rush, can you send slow cooker recipes again? emoticon emoticon Anyone else that has personal recipes they want to share, please do. As most of you probably know I HATE TO COOK. I had to look up how to cook hard boiled eggs, that is no lie. emoticon emoticon I do have the SP cookbook, so I have those recipes.

I don't plan my meals as much as I cook a big bunch of lean turkey and chicken on Sunday so I have that part ready to go for quick dinners throughout the week. If I could figure out a way to cut and store veggies so they didn't rot, I'd have it made. LOL!

Would you mind sharing the recipe for the Green Monster? I'm a smoothie girl and am looking for new recipes.

Thanks!!

It sounds like you are living the healthy lifestyle which I strive to do. Are you drinking the Dr. Oz drink he recommends as it sounds like it. It sounds like you shop at Safeway (Vons) as they have the same gas prom thing there. I haven't yet figured out how you join it as we've recently started going there because the store is new and their produce and meat sections are wonderful with good prices for these hard times.

Thank you so much for the pretty pink carnation as it looks so pretty on my page. How very kind and thoughtful of you to think of me.

Enjoy your evening and upcoming week.

Hugs,

Jill

Good for you on the meal planning, I have a tentative meal plan for the week for dinners but sometimes it is hard to stick too. I eat differently than my honey a lot of the time since I am vegetarian he is not. But it does help with the shopping, and can limit the bad stuff sitting around that causes temptations!!!

Planning meals was part of my life when I had a family. Never missed it. They really appreciated it. Now that it's just me, I keep my meals really simple so they're easy to plan. It helps to plan ahead. When I don't I tend to reach for something that shocks my food tracker later!

When I first stared SP I tried many times to plan a weeks worth of meals.
Was never able to follow through with the plans so I started doing a couple of days at a time (mostly because there are left overs from one meal...going into the next one). I still do a "seat of the pants" type meal plan, refining it where necessary. So kudos coming your way for getting a weeks worth of meals put on paper. I will let you in on a little secret.....I do know how to cook (and don't mind doing it), but I do have a hard time getting those darned hard boiled eggs done the way they should be.
Have a great night....talk again soon. emoticon

Had my last physical therapy appointment.

Friday, July 06, 2012

Today was my last appointment for physical therapy. I said emoticon emoticon to Robert. He doesn't do pool so I won't see him at the pool. They do the tests of range of motion, strength and such that they do on your first day. I met all goals. That is great news. The strength in my arms are in the normal range now, the pain in my shoulders is about a 1. My knees still hurt but we know I have OA and need both knees replaced. He told me to keep going to the gym and pool, that goes without saying. Both of us are very pleased with the progress.
