A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk 's office,
was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.
She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.
"What I mean is, " explained the recorder,
"do you have a job or are you just a ...?"
"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.
"I'm a Mom."
"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation,
'housewife' covers it,"
Said the recorder emphatically.
I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself
in the same situation, this time at our own Town Hall.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
efficient, and possessed of a high sounding title like,
"Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."
"What is your occupation?" she probed.
What made me say it? I do not know.
The words simply popped out.
"I'm a Research Associate in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations."
The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in m midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right.
I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,
in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.
"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,
"just what you do in your field?"
Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice,
I heard myself reply,
"I have a continuing program of research,
(what mother doesn't)
In the laboratory and in the field,
(normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (the whole family and my pets)
and already have three credits (two sons and a daughter).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,
(any mother care to disagree?)
and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers
and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money."
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she
completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door.
As I drove into my driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!
And I had gone on the official records as someone more
distinguished and indispensable to mankind than "just another Mom."
What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door.
Does this make grandmothers
"Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations"
And great grandmothers
"Executive Senior Research Associates?"
I think so!!!
I also think it makes Aunts "
Associate Research Assistants."

Don't feel like doing anything today. I didn't wake up feeling like this. I woke up pretty early, before the 7:30 alarm and had most of my SP points by 8:30. By 9 I was back in bed with a stomach ache and a headache from satan himself. I woke back up at 11:45
I am sitting here trying to talk myself into jumping into the shower and going grocery shopping. Since there is no milk in the house and I need stuff for dinner tonight you would think this would be easy. Instead I find myself thinking of alternative solutions like borrowing milk from the landlord and eating something else today. Good solution except the freezer is empty except for frozen fruit, chicken, pork chops,(just had these) and ice cubes. I have one can of Progresso Hearty Tomato Soup which I will have for lunch.
My mama said there would be days like this. I just wish she told me how to get through them. Now I am going to eat my soup and hopefully not drown myself in the shower. Monday Monday please be good to me.

I joined the Healthy Eating Challenge. You are suppose to plan your meals for the week. I've done it before, but never stuck to it. I am giving it a go again. It is difficult to balance the nutrients. Some days I am 51-54% on carbs, not bad, especially since I am now eating(drinking)4-7 servings of freggies. Love, love love the Green Monster. My Mom is so impressed that I am drinking spinach. I am surprised she hasn't tried to call Barack to tell him, or maybe she has, but I digress. I filled in this Friday and deleted it. I was at 78.9% carbs. Whoa. I was going to drink my Green Monster for breakfast, as I go to the gym on Friday. Lots of carbs, 53g. 1/2 sandwich for lunch, and a frozen dinner for dinner, I don't cook, refuse to on Friday. I might have to now, or leftovers. Love my Green Monster. TREATL.
This really does help with making a grocery list. Yoplait is on sale this week for $.50 . It is the only thing on sale this week worth buying. Last week I spent over $100.00 and earned 1,180 gas points. They have the same thing this week, spend $50.00 earn an extra 300 points. I will have no trouble(who does) spending the $50.00. Yogurt, eggs, milk, fruit, frozen vegetable(I am out) chicken, 93% ground beef poof $50.00 gone.
1CRAZYDOG if you read this, I deleted my mailbox without realizing those recipes were there until it was too late. Only when you have the time, no rush, can you send slow cooker recipes again? Anyone else that has personal recipes they want to share, please do. As most of you probably know I HATE TO COOK. I had to look up how to cook hard boiled eggs, that is no lie. I do have the SP cookbook, so I have those recipes.

Today was my last appointment for physical therapy. I said to Robert. He doesn't do pool so I won't see him at the pool. They do the tests of range of motion, strength and such that they do on your first day. I met all goals. That is great news. The strength in my arms are in the normal range now, the pain in my shoulders is about a 1. My knees still hurt but we know I have OA and need both knees replaced. He told me to keep going to the gym and pool, that goes without saying. Both of us are very pleased with the progress.
