Something strange and a happy ending

Friday, July 05, 2013

Tonight I was at Walmart and have a story to tell. I got my cart and was heading into the store when I saw a little girl crying and she was looking like she was lost. So I asked her what was wrong and she said she lost her mom. So I said I'd take her to customer service and they could call her mom. So that's what we did, but I noticed a guy watching us and then he followed us into the service area. We were waiting for someone to help us so I asked the little girl questions and found out her name and that she went fishing today and they didn't catch anything. This guy kept watching us and then a lady was free to page the mom. The guy just stood there watching and then the mom came. The little girl ran to her mom, I went in another direction and the guy went back into the main part of the store. Who do you think this guy was?

I'm glad it had a happy ending and I hope the gentleman was who KrazyKat suggested... although, if he was, why didn't he take the little girl to customer service?

I have a family member that worked at one of the stores, There are a lot of employees that go around for security in plain cloths. They get rewards for catching people doing wrong things. Maybe that was the case. I hope anyway. There are some messed up people in the world today.

Its possible that he was the security guy. They usually aren't in "Walmart" attire, AKA undercover. LOL. Glad you found her mom though. I avoided Walmart this weekend and Hyvee it was nuts with all the people here.

A walk is more than a walk

Sunday, May 20, 2012

My husband and I like to walk and here in NW Iowa we have many trails that we can choose from. Today we went out of town north and this trail goes past fields and water areas. We were almost to our turn around point and on the side of the trail was a huge turtle-1/2 on the trail and 1/2 on the grassy area. She had dug a hole and we think she was laying her eggs. We didn't know what else she could have been doing. She didn't look like she was stuck and couldn't move. Tonight we are going to go back to that location and see if she's still there. Next we saw two geese with their 5 babies on the trail and heading to the little pond. It was fun watching them keep their flock together and protect them against "us". We also saw a yellow bird with some black and we knew it wasn't a goldfinch. I guess we are going to have to get a book about Iowa birds. Last fall we removed all the old bluebird houses and put new ones up. My husband made more than 15 houses for the trails we walk.
So for us a walk is more than the exercise we are getting, it's enjoying nature.

Your area sounds like where we live! It's farm country, and I enjoy the wildlife and birds. We had 5 cardinal pairs at our feeder last week. Sometimes it's a little too close for comfort, though. Once I snuck down to the creek to take care of some business. When I heard a twig snap, I looked and there was a porcupine! Ouch! Pulled up my britches and got out of there in a hurry.

It sounds glorious. Adds so much interest to a walk in a beautiful area. We have to drive to get anywhere interesting here in the Thames Valley.

I too love to walk in the woods with my husband. They are my favorite moments. Always. I love that your husband makes blue bird houses. It is always so lovely to put energy into a place you get energy from.

Sounds wonderful! If that turtle is still there, or you do discover a nest, I think there are local agencies who will come an block it off to protect it.

Spring is such a wonderful time to go for walks in nature! Everything is coming back to life again, whether plant life, or birds and animals having their young. I find that nature walks are as restorative to the soul and spirit as they are healthy for the body! emoticon

Looks like we made it!

Saturday, April 14, 2012

My kids gave me tickets to a Barry Manilow concert this weekend. So I took a day off from school on Friday. We started the day with a good breakfast at a pa and ma restaurant. Then we drove 3 1/2 hours to hubby's sister's house. We went to her grandson's program at school and it was pretty cute. Bugs was the theme of the program. Then we spent the afternoon visiting and playing games. That night my SIL and myself had a fabulous time listening to Barry, man he can still sing those songs that make the whole world sing. Today we got up and had blueberry waffles for breakfast and then walked for 60 minutes around a lake. Now we are home again and it feels good to be back. It has been a pretty great weekend! emoticon

I heard he was financially ruined and had to start over . . . one of many . . . someone stole from him . . . he said he thanked God the fans were still there for him when he had to hit the road and start over from the beginning . . .

So glad you had a good time.

Sunday the 15th

Sunday, January 15, 2012

I had a great weekend! I love being home on the weekends. We had been in Omaha last weekend to see our son, which was a great time. But then coming back and working all week made me feel behind before the week began. So being home this weekend was a time I really appreciated. I cleaned and did the grocery shopping. Then today watched football after doing my schoolwork for this week. My husband and I walked yesterday and today; 60 minutes both days. With my goal of getting those 1000 fitness minutes each month, there aren't many days I can slack. Now on to a new week of students.

Blogging?

Saturday, January 14, 2012

Being on a team that has weekly challenges has been great for me. I have challenged myself to do things that move me out of my comfort zone. And this week is no different; we have been challenged to do a daily blog. I have done some blogging before, but have I haven't been comfortable doing it.
So here goes, day 1. Last week was a horrible week for sleep, eating and exercise. Was it because of that darn full moon? That's what I'm going to blame it on and this is a new week without a full moon. So here's to a fresh start! Started the day with a breakfast of oatmeal, moved on to 65 minutes of walking and slept very well last night. emoticon

I try to blog every day. It helps to put things down on paper for me. Even at night when I can't sleep, I find if I get up and write down my thoughts that I can then go back to bed and sleep. A friend of mine had her husband pass just recently and was having trouble sleeping, so told her to write her thoughts on paper and talk to him that way. Says it helped her greatly and she is doing good now.
