Stress v. Worthwhile

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Still no house. Our budget is limited, the market is limited for the budget... this all boils down to stress.

I'm still living in a B&B. I miss my husband terribly, but we will be here in approx 10 days, can I hold out for that much longer? Well, yes, because really, I have no other choice.

Food has been GREAT some meals, and fast food (although healthy) for the most part. I can't keep this boat afloat right now, I just keep tipping. There's so many others things going on, and so much uncertainity, it is hard to stay focused and positive.

I went down with a killer migarine yesterday from the sheer possibilities and I feel it still sitting up there so I'm trying hard to be calm, positive and just keep moving around. I'm seriously considering a massage although I'm concerned about the dollars behind that.

Let's hope our good karma shows up anytime!

I spend an impressive amount of time on realtor.ca

We're in the market for a new house, it goes with the new province, new city, new job, etc.

My husband and I originally came out here together and looked at houses. We found two that we thought would work. When we came back, after listing our house (about 10 days later), the one house had foreclosed, and the other was still on the market.

We did a lot of research to find out where in the foreclosure process the first one was at, and didn't get very far, until yesterday, where the laywer said we could enter an offer, but it still is pending in court and there is no guarantee our offer would be a) accepted, b) even what the bank had in mind, c) we would have to wait & have no idea when the closing etc would be. Basically continue in limbo, with hope, for another 2-3 weeks.

Fast forward to yesterday, we offered (a low-ball bid) on the other, and were rejected, and the house sold to the other buyer.

Neither house was fantastic, they need a lot of work, but that's what we were looking for. This is a dream that we have as a family, my husband would like his own project. I'm so frustrated because now we are still apart, we still don't have anywhere to live, I've been here a month, and I just want to see him again and be settled.

Enter stress eating which I have barely avoided - I got myself a vitaminwater - a treat - and that's it. I'm still jonesing for an Egg McMuffin. It's likely in my current state that I will give in.

Aw that is so frustrating! I'm not in the market yet but I love watching hgtv and seeing the process, and I know just from watching hos tricky it can be! I know you'll find something, so don't give up! and in the meantime, try to avoid that egg mcmuffin! Although I know its just sooo hard when you are stressed to remember your commitment to yourself..but its so important. I firget sometimes too, but when I do resist temptation in the face of stress, I feel so much better knowing I did! I hope that happens for you too! Good luck - both with resisting the mcmuffin and househunting! emoticon

Don't give in to that Egg McMuffin! Surely, there must be a substitute. On the other hand I can sympathize with you and your dilemma having been at that point myself. You will need all of the encouragement you can get.

Hypoallergenic, but hungry.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

I'm having a hard time with breakfast on this hypoallergenic diet. I'm just not eating enough protein, and this is hard to do without a stove. Rice/almond milk doesn't really have much protein like real milk does.

But I'm working on it. Last night I ate a cup of rice over my normal caloric intake because my poor body was just starving! I tried to drown it out with water and even a vitamin water on top of it (I thought the cane sugar might help), but nope! Nothing..... still majorly hungry. I watched a movie to distract myself - no - still hungry!

Cookin' up a storm & making it to the TOP of the mountain

Monday, November 16, 2009

Met with a naturopath on the weekend. I really think this is going to put me on the right track, and she asked me to have an hypoallergenic diet for 4 weeks. Then when I told her I only have a microwave and bar fridge, she thought I should wait. I disagreed, and called up my mother who is gluten/wheat/yeast-free and asked her how I could do this, as she as been through it before. She gave me very good advice, and I followed it.

I stocked up on veggies and fruits at the grocery store last night, and cooked in my one microwavable dish for several hours. It was so nice to wake up this morning, down my omega-three fish oil with a juice chaser, take my multi-vitamin and then skip off to work with breakfast, lunch and my swim gear (for swimming @ lunch) in my bag. It felt SUCCESSFUL, and it was super easy! I did in in less than ten minutes.

I hit the slopes for the 2nd time of the season yesterday. I challenged myself to go up the HUGE lift that takes you to the top of the mountain. It was so windy, my face and lips went numb. A little farther down though, it was a really nice ski. I managed to get three runs in, in my hour and a half timeframe (my endurance, well I'm working on that one!) I was skiing more fluidily, and it felt much better. Guess my muscles are adapting! I didn't take as much breaks either.

Microwave Cookery ONLY - Please help!

Friday, November 13, 2009

Call me old fashioned, but I like to cook my food in pots/pans/streamers, etc. I a lot of small appliances so I don't have to use the oven when something smaller would do, although I have cooking and baking in there too.

So right now, when I only have a microwave and a bar fridge (which as they do, freezes everything on the top shelf) I don't quite know what to make/do. My friend, Miss A, has provided me a wonderful egg white sandwich recipe, but now even is wearing thin.

Any help in this area on veggies that can be left out of the fridge, or healthy recipes you can cook in the microwave, would be appreciated!

I found that with our garden in the summer time alot of veggies will stay fresh for a week on the counter. I have left broccoli, cauliflower, carrots(unpeeled), and so forth on the counter. Try buying veggies whole like that. I know in our stores you can buy carrots with the greens still on. The only thing I wouldn't recommend leaving on the counter is lettuce that needs to be refrigerated. They also make microwave cooking books I have seen them at Border's Book Store. Maybe the Library would have some so you didn't have to buy them?
