weight this morning 130.8
I know I ate on plan, under 50 grams of carbs and exercised enough and I know this is not likely water weight, so could it be that I'm building muscle as fast as I'm losing fat? Time will tell. In any case, in the past I know I would have worried about this seeming lack of weight loss. But now I know that the day-to-day weight is irrelevant and even the weekly average may be irrelevant if my body replaces fat with muscle.
I'm planning on 1700 yards swimming and some running.

Very wise. If you're doing the activities that build muscle and not over-eating, the number on the scale is not the best measure.

weight this morning 130.6 pounds
I swam 1600 yards, mostly freestyle, and ran/walked 2 miles. Total calorie burn about 800.
I'm tired and hungry tonight, having a few extra snacks, some hot chocolate made with Xylitol, a low-carb muffin made with coconut flakes, flaxseed meal and pumpkin.
Time for bed now so I'm ready for another swim tomorrow.

Oh the muffin sounds good, do you have the recipe? Glad you got a swim in, I don't swim well, thrash is more like it, but the pool near me is jut too cold, I get cramps even after being in for while doing water arobics.
Have a great day!

For anyone who is interested in learning about ketosis read here

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Here is a very good introductory article about ketosis and what it is. It is the first in a series and I consider it a must-read for anyone interested in low-carb eating.

Russell38 is correct - ketosis is much maligned and misunderstood. People get all itchy discussing how we should avoid it. Being new to a gluten free diet, I can't always explain why my body is reacting positively to a new way of eating. So thank you for linking to articles such as this one. It goes a long way in helping to explain what ketosis really is and why it isn't something to fear. emoticon

I love the full term.. ketosis/ lipolysis. Lipolysis is the melting of fat, which is what you are doing. All it means to be in ketosis is that instead of burning the carbs you eat, you are using the fat on you hips, butt, and gut for fuel instead. Fat is stored energy. We are meant to use it up. Ketones/ ketone bodies are released when fat cells break down.

Ketosis is maligned, and not spoke of, because hospitals, and pharmacies are making a fortune off sick people.

I had not heard of the word, followed the link and it is quite a bit of information there. I have copied it to study it more. Thanks

My physicians don't believe the explanations, but they love the results. Peter Attia's blog is a great place for information, and if you ask a question, he will respond.

My doctor's mentioned DKA to me too, since I am diabetic. They seem confused when I do the opposite of what they say, and get healthier..lol.

Weight this morning was 130.8 lbs.
Today was a very active day. I swam 1500 yards, ran 3 miles and walked another 2 miles. I also did a little bit of horseback riding and horse grooming (upper body workout this time of year with horse covered in mud) . emoticon
Totally calorie burn should be around 1200 calories, total weight loss should be about 1/3 of a pound.
Now it's dark and we will play some guitar. I'm hoping to teach my daughter some folk tunes and all the stuff that I grew up playing this winter plus some Christmas music.
Just wish we had a wood stove to make a fire. Maybe next year.

Do you realize that you are living such a blessed beautiful full life, that many of us envy? I say this with a smile and know you know this.
I smile for you and the joy you are living.
My daughter has been playing guitar almost a year now and loves it.
What a gift to always have music in your life.

Still no weight loss - but pushing hard towards the finish line

Sunday, November 25, 2012

The self-imposed finish of my 40 day plan is Dec. 11. Unfortunately I had to save all the hard work until now because first a cold kept me from exercising for about 3 weeks and then I started to get allergy symptoms and then I ate a little more over Thanksgiving. My weight stayed at about 131 pounds through all of this, not bad given everything. Now I will give it a final push for the next 17 days. My swimming is up to 1400 yards today and increasing by 200 yards every time I go, about 3 times/week. My running is slow at the moment but I'm increasing distance slowly from 2 miles yesterday up to 6 miles in about 2 weeks. Strength training is happening again, too, although with slightly smaller weights. If I can stay on plan with both eating and exercise I should be able to drop at least another 3 pounds, maybe as much as 5 pounds with most of that being body fat, putting me right where I want to be for maintenance. emoticon
After that maintaining should be easy as long as I'm healthy.

Great on you for not giving up. The scale may not show it yet but you are making progress with your swimming and strength training. You are an inspiration. :)

Very exciting to be so near your goal, I can almost hear the positive energy coming off this blog entry. ;-) I marvel at how you are able to be so devoted to exercise. I can't do it other than walking the dogs daily. Just bores me to tears. Good thing I have to work so hard on our property or I wouldn't get any. I'm trying to kick myself into taking up yoga again and going to the pool once a week. You inspire me, as always.

You are doing so great and the plan is wonderful! I love how you just go with the flow and bounce back with looking ahead so positive. Great to see someone who is doing so well so close to maintenance and keeping the attitude so positive and productive! It is working for you! What a positive person you are! I enjoy reading from you, so much. I know many who could learn from your example! emoticon
