KatrinasDream

Saturday, September 27, 2014

Recently I met a girl named Helene who was walking across the United States. I met her in my hometown of Joplin at McDonald's where I was taking advantage of the free coffee. Her mother-in-law was Katrina who had met President Roosevelt and also Churchill when she was 8 years old. She is the one who started Katrinasdream.org and was in favor of the ERA. Helene was walking across the U.S. to get the ERA into the Constitution. She is quite a girl. I found her to be very inspiring and she found me to be inspiring. I felt like I could never fit up to her dream or her goals. She videotaped me and put in on You Tube. She wanted me to talk about my life and how things had affected me. She also put me on her sight of katrinasdream.org. You can get to the video from there. To walk so much is quite an effort. She had been walking for months and made it from Sacromento to Joplin. She is going to talk to the United Nations and then go on to Washington D. C. to talk there for the senators and representatives. She talks to some in the various states she goes to. She saw me as the typical woman facing hardships in a man's world. Anyway I do a lot of walking myself and so I can't go as far as her but I can make an impact here where I live. Hope

I am in Joplin right now, part of the South Central Regional Roundup. Walkers from 17 states and one foreign country are participating. The headquarters hotel is La Quinta on Range Line Road, but that was filled and I am at the Days Inn, almost next door. Do you know it? We have one more walk tomorrow, at George Washington Carver's Farm, and then we drive back to St. Louis. We have already walked the Frisco Trail here, the MSSU campus, and the Recovery Walk featuring the memorials around where the tornado hit.

Why don't you contact the Dogwood Trailblazers in Joplin and walk with them some time? They would love to have you. Check out clubs.ava.org or glenconyers@sbcglobal.net.

TKR

I finally had my Total Knee Replacement and things seem to have good with it. I'm in a lot of pain but only because I have to keep pushing my knee to bend and to straighten out so it has to hurt until I get it to do right. I'm at my oldest daughters apt. and it was so good of her to put me up. My youngest daughter had also said I could have stayed there with her but I wasn't sure about her dogs. I didn't want any accidents. I almost stumbled over my oldest daughter's cat last night though so one is just as bad as the other. Both girls are so good about being considerate. Things are coming along nicely. Soon I'll be back walking again. Hope

I had my Total Knee Replacement about 2 years ago. I am SO glad I did it...and you will be too. Follow instructions regarding your physical therapy and get yourself out there walking ASAP. The sooner you start walking, the faster you will heal. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

Heart problems.

Tuesday, June 03, 2014

I am due to have a TKR done in July. They did a preop on me and found out from the xrays that I had scarring on my heart and they believe I had a mild heart attack sometime. I'm hoping its a mistake or due to the many times I had pneumonia. Hopefully this will blow over and I can have my surgery. Prayers would be appreciated. Hope

I'm sorry to hear about the findings regarding your heart. Do you have to go for a cardiac (heart) clearance to have the surgery? I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way. emoticon

Surgery

Monday, May 19, 2014

Well I'm finally having the surgery for Total Knee Replacement on my other knee. It's set for July 8th. Hopefully its the last of my pain for awhile. Not only do I have arthritis but I also have fluid on my knee which he recently took out so he's not able to remove it again for a while. That's ok though because I have bone on bone so it would have been necessary anyhow. Other than that I'm doing pretty good. To those I've not been able to get back with thanks and prayers to all my friends. Hopefully I'll be back exercising soon. Hope

We are like two peas in a pod Hope, only you are one step (no pun intended) ahead of me. I need to have TKA/TKR on both my knees but I don't think it shall happen anytime soon for assorted reasons. I do wish everything goes well for you & without a hitch. I'll be thinking about you along with everyone else. Take good care. emoticon emoticon

A fellow who I walk with regularly had knee replacement surgery in January. Yes, he was out for a while but getting physical therapy, which wasn't easy. I've been walking again with him for about a month or more. I walked 3 miles with him tonight, and he was going to do twice that. He is determined to get back where he was.

Just spoke to a fellow worker who had surgery four weeks ago to have his left knee replaced. He was actually walking with a cane. He was doing great and I'm sure that you will be there and better for it in the end.
