Weekend dread . . . a continuation of a blog reply

Another spark member posted that the weekends were the worst for her due to family events, eating out, etc. My reply to her got me thinking, but I didn't want to make her blog 'all about me', so I decided to post my own and continue with my comments. I replied to her that eating out was not an issue for me as we do not go out much. Not enough time most days! My worst problem is my husband! He doesn't seem to get the whole "I do not need to eat that" thing and "I am trying to lose weight mister!" As I have no health issues due to my weight (yet), he loves me just like I am and tells me this often. He is coming around a little better this week though. I think he has figured out since we joined the gym that I am serious about losing the extra weight. He has graduated from candy bars to buying me sugar free ice cream. ;-) I guess some improvement is better than none! It can be very difficult to eat healthy with a spouse who is not on board. We were eating healthy together about two years ago and both lost around 40 pounds. But then he was diagnosed with liver cancer and started chemo treatment. He couldn't eat the same anymore and I gained every pound plus five more back with all the stress! He continued to lose. Although he still has the cancer, he is pretty well most of the time and has his appetite back. He eats pretty much what he wants (even though I try to tell him that he should eat healthier because certain foods feed the cancer) and I stay busy trying to avoid most of what he eats! Since I am the cook, this is sometimes difficult and means making entirely different meals. I am lucky that our fifteen year old daughter likes healthy food (and is not overweight) and eats whatever I am having! As I have said before, she is my current inspiration and my gym partner. We team up on him sometimes and plan a healthy (but still delicious) meal and he has no choice but to eat it! Here's hoping for a healthy, candy bar free weekend! I hope the same for ya'll! :-)

    Thanks Flowers! I need all the friends that I can get. :-) I admire you for putting in the extra effort and going to a grocery store for healthy choices instead of eating junk. I have slowly been changing the way I eat and trying not to backslide too much. Adding the gym three days a week has been the best goal yet! I hope you have a great weekend!

    Hello!
Thanks so much for the encouragement on my blog! It's great to meet someone else who is just starting out here. I have been on SparkPeople for a while now but I am taking it seriously this time since I always gain weight once I go off the site. First, congratulations to you and your husband for catching the liver cancer and getting his treatment. The best he can do for himself and your family is to eat those veggies and get some exercise!!! I'm sure he gets lots of encouragement from you and your daughter hehe. I was married once when I was younger and I know how hard it can be with the weight struggle (I gained 60 pounds in two years!). I have tried the "all or nothing" approach in the past and have found it does not work for me. Instead of totally trying to revamp everything, I am setting mini-goals for myself each month that gradually accumulate into 12 healthy habits learned by the end of the year. For example, this month I am cutting out all junk food and fast food when I am out on the road. If I need to eat something while I'm out, I drive into a grocery store and pick out some fruit or something healthy so I don't starve. Thanks for the comment on my blog...I hope you don't mind if I add you to my list of friends! I can't wait to see some progress photos from you, too! :)

So it's Friday and weigh in is tomorrow. I did pretty good this week. Went to the gym as planned, ate a lot of healthy foods (a little unhealthy) and I feel really good. Hoping for a great weekend and planning for the week ahead!

Went a little off track today. Had lunch with a coworker and it was not a healthy move! Who new that little piece of chicken, a biscuit and mashed potatoes was over 700 calories! OMG! Next time, I will be bringing a salad to our lunch and let her have the rest! No use crying over spilled milk now though. Still have my motivation and I am going to jump right back on that train in the morning. :-D

So I am sitting here last night with my honey and then suddenly I here this breaking sound! I start to cringe ~recognizing the sound as a tree cracking ~ waiting for it to fall right on top of us, but it never does. Phew! Close call. My hubby goes outside to investigate and low and behold there is our massive tree down, roots pulled up and it is laying across the fence! :-( Thanking the Lord that it fell right and not left! Got a look at it this morning and it was a massive tree!

Anyhow, the gym was great, again! It still amazes me how you can go in all half asleep and grumpy and come out wide awake and chipper! lol Hope ya'll have a terrific day!
