OK - I ordered this book as well recently, although I have been doing it already....and it totally works!! Lost 5 pounds the first week and it's so nice to eat a huge breakfast a small lunch and then by dinner it's all you can do to get any food down at all because you are so stuffed! So generally I am eating an apple for dinner, last night I had an artichoke, stuff like that. I sleep better, I have no cravings and I feel really good. Anyone else trying this?

Guinea Pig

Friday, July 13, 2012

Ok, so before ya'll look at my food tracker and freak out, I just want to say that I have decided to be the guinea pig for ya'll (mighty nice of me, huh). I have been researching this big breakfast thing and decided to give it a whirl! The basic concept is to eat a huge breakfast (including dessert if you want it!! Yay!) and then consume your regular healthy meal plan for the remainder of the day. Supposedly it boosts your metabolism and you lose more weight! :) I have read the books and looked over the trials and it seems to be for real. I am going to try it for a month and see how it goes. Normally, I only have cereal or oatmeal with fruit, usually not more that 300 calories total for breakfast, but today's breakfast was a whopping 521 calories (although I did not have a dessert)! I had McDonald's today, but I am going to try and prepare some of the meal suggestions that I found in the books and see how it works! I have heard before that the time of day that you eat certain foods can affect your weight loss, so it is worth a shot. Might also curb those sweet cravings later in the day! Wish me luck! It can't be any worse than the pig-out session that I started out with this week! :)

If anyone wants to try it with me (beginning on Sunday) I now have the menu posted on my personal website! www.henryjs.com. It is on The Biggest WInner page!

Have an awesome Friday my spark friends! :)

Actually that is what I am doing every Sunday when I have breakfast at my parents. There we have a huge breakfast with about everything and I usually eat between 500-700 calories. The first time I tracked I was literally freaking out since I am allowed to eat "only" 1200-1550 calories a day. I thought I would starve to death that day if I ate that many calories in the morning and didn't have many left for all the other meals of the day. Well, of course I didn't starve to death- haha I think I wouldn't be here- and I noticed that I wasn't that hungry the rest of the day and I didn't have the need to eat anything bad at all. So now I can say that Sundays are the best days when I look at my food tracker. I have a huge breakfast but then the rest of the day I only want veggies and fruits and I am always in my calorie range.
I am really curious how your experiences will be. Keep us up on date. emoticon

I remember reading a while back that the first 200 calories or so of the morning don't always register for want of a better description but alas I just cannot stomach breakfast, never have been able to. So curious to know how it works - good luck :)

I've heard that before too, but I just can't eat first thing. Breakfast tends to be my smallest meal of the day. I'll be interested in seeing how it works for you.

Good luck with your experiment! I've never done well with big breakfasts but they probably had a ton of sugar and carbs. It always seemed to me that it made me want to eat all day. Does it make a difference when you eat a breakfast with a balance of protein, fat, whole grains and fruit? Now you've got me curious. I can't wait to see how you do.

i read an article about eating dessert for breakfast, a big piece of chocolate cake, has no more calories than an average breakfast and i guess it jumpstarts the fat burning, i dont know, i will see if i still have the magazine, i personally havent tried it...i am not a breakfast person, i gag in the morning first thing just taking my vitamins and i need about an hour or two after getting up to feel like eating.
maybe my cpap machine has to do with it, i dont know, but, good luck and let us know how it goes, im up for dessert anytime.

Jackie ~ I am not derailed my friend! Just on the slow track to the left. :)

Googie ~ Great words of inspiration! I wish you would add me, so I can comment on your page! :)

Linda, Crowley, Tibi ~ Thanks for the motivation!

Dreading the weigh-in Saturday . . . I have been bad!

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

So, I hope everybody is a having a great week! :) I personally have been on an eating spree! If you look back to my earlier posts, you will realize that this is the week before aunt Lucy's monthly visit. (Yeah, I know ya'll really keep track of this!) This is also another possible reason for the dramatic swelling I recently experienced.

For some reason I am always ravenous during this week! Like a squirrel storing up for some impending shortage of food!! Chocolate and starch cravings galore! Sometimes together! Only this afternoon I was imaging a huge bowl of rice with chocolate drizzled on it! Luckily there was neither close at hand so I settled for a 100 calorie bag of cookies. Unlike some of you may think about me ::cheesy grin:: I am a weakling with a very small supply of will power. I am still tracking it all though! Today, I only had 6 calories left over. We will not discuss yesterday! I only need say that I went waaay over! Since my food tracker is public, ya'll can always go peek and see my eating frenzy! :) I will certainly be glad when this week is over and I can plan for a healthier next week!

All is not lost though! I have faith in me and my plan to reach my first goal this year! Hope ya'll are doing better than I!

I am exactly the same way before my period. Lots of cravings and no willpower and lots of fluid retention. I feel much better right after Aunt Flo is gone. Not near as many cravings and usually that is when my scale will drop. We just have to try to get through it as best as we can and don't put too much stock in the scale.

Hi Jackie, It happens to all of us. The important thing is to recognize it and not let it derail you. Just keep tracking and moving forward. Don't you wish we could forbid Aunt Lucy from visiting?
Hope you had a great night. Hugs, Jackie

Stress is always "stressier" at that time of the month. Do your best to make good choices, one meal at a time, and celebrate even the smallest success!
Had a good breakfast... Yeah! Skipped the second cookie,.. Yahoo!
Give yourself credit, where credit is due, and get back on track one choice at a time.

Don't get upset when you have those days when you eat more - sometimes way more - than you should. emoticon We all go through that.

But don't write off the rest of the week. You can start turning things around and show that darned Aunt Lucy that she's not going to control you! emoticon

A Sparky Monday for All

Monday, July 09, 2012

I hope all my spark peeps are preparing for a sparky Monday! I know I am! :)

Started off a little slow myself this morning, but shifting gears now! I figured it would take me a day or so to get back on track but boy am I dragging it. No gym today, so I am going to have to break out the stepper and/or the walk away the pounds dvd after work. Not going to cry if it doesn't happen though. My calves are still rock hard and trying to recover from all the walking last week!

On another note, I am thankful that Hunter has decided to stay in his mommy's tummy a little while longer! No call last night! :) Hopefully, the doctor's do not find any new changes and decide to induce her today. I really need to get at least half way through my work week before I have to take a couple more days off!

Have a great day my friends! :)

Take is SLOW.... maybe do upper body work out strength training and give your legs a little rest.... a hot bath to soak in to help relax your muscles sound like a good idea.

As far as Hunter.... well you know he will have a mind of his own unless that doctors gives a little push..... and it will be that way the rest of his life. I know you are excited for him to get here, but be patient. *LOL*

Happy Monday my friend. I am feeling better. Thank you for caring and checking on me and for the well wishes!

Maybe Pooh can give you a calf massage. Or, perhaps soaking in a hot tub will help soften those calves.

I'm glad you're ready for a sparky Monday. So am I. My husband went to work today, in spite of having an awful night's sleep. When I talked to him, a little while ago, he sounded good in spite of being tired. I'm thinking and praying that the current crisis has passed.
Have a marvelous Monday. Hugs, Jackie

You have a Happy Monday, too! It does always seem to be hard to get back into the groove after a vacation, but everyone, including me, seems to have had a rough week! (except for DESERTJULZ--maybe she's used to the heat?) Today is my rest day, so at least I don't have to do ST today! I'm still stiff from yesterday.
