5K? Have I lost my mind?!!

Friday, June 29, 2012

Friday! Friday! Yay! Last day (1/2 day) of work before vacation! I am ready! Although we do not actually leave for Orlando till Tuesday, I am geared up and have my exercise (on top of all the walking) planned. Snacks planned! My child WILL NOT persuade me away from my healthy diet!! I have vowed to behave on this vacation. :)

Ok, so at the urging of a friend I signed baby girl and I up for a 5K walk/run in August! Temporary insanity as I have never done any kind of walk/run race! Need help from my spark pals! As most of you know, I do a good bit of walking and the treadmill at the gym, but what kind of training should I be doing to prepare for this 5K thing?!! HELP!!

I hope all my spark friends have a super rockin' Friday! :)

Awesome! I'm doing the virtual walking 5k on SP. I'm currently in the week 2 training and today's goal was walk 1.75 miles. I actually went a bit over when I used the mapper, it was 1.81 miles!

Join the Spark People 5K Rookie Running Program! I will invite you. I started it at the end of winter and I have never run before and hated running in high school even. And I didn't think I could do it. But the program starts you off easy and each week adds a bit more jogging and less walking and I am just starting the last week of the program now, and each week I was surprised that I could do what it asked. So it works!!!!! I have signed up for the sparkpeople 5K virtual walk/run which is the last week of July. (Don't be too intimidated, even in the last week of the program, you still get little minute rest periods) You can do it! Even if you don't think you can, the program works. Honest.

The 5K your way is a really good way to build up your stamina. I've done two 5K and and am doing the program in the hopes of bettering my time on my next one Labor Day weekend. The first time it took me almost 1 1/2 hours! The second one, 66 minutes. Don't sweat it, seriously. It sounds way more daunting than it really is. It will be hard, you will have to push yourself, but you CAN do it!! emoticon

There is a training for a 5k here on SP.. it is in the challenges I think...... Sometimes when I log in it pops up.

Oh and... my oldest will be 20 in exactly a month... so yep... feeling OLD. *LOL* especially today.

SP has a virtual 5K training program called SP's Official 5K Your Way. It guides you to building up your walking time. Check it out and good luck!

Have a marvelous vacation!!

Sparky Thursday!

Thursday, June 28, 2012

Good morning my spark friends! Tropical storm Debby has gone! Yay! No flooding here. It dried up pretty quick. Expecting highs in th upper 80s today. Looks like it will be super hot for vacation next week. Going to have to drink lots of water to stay hydrated as there is going to be tons of walking at the Disney theme parks! :) I can't wait!

Ok, I know I shouldn't have done it, because I will probably just be disappointed come Saturday at weigh-in if I weigh in higher, but I couldn't resist sneaking a peak at my weight. I only weigh once a week usually because of the fluctuation in weight due to water. I was feeling thinner (if you know what I mean) so I just thought that I would check it out. According to my glorious scale, I have lost three pounds this week! :) I guess I will just have to wait and see if the weight is the same come weigh-in day!

It going to be a great day today! I hope that all my fellow sparkers have a marvelous Thursday! :)

I have been known to peak! I think we all do... so yes we understand....

Keep up the good work and it might be 5 pounds....

Sometimes I can't resist a "peak" either. Some mornings you just "feel" like you're lighter.

It's hot here in St Louis (my boss just came in and said her car thermometer said 108). emoticon Not a good day to be out walking around.

Glad Debby didn't put a dent in your vacation plans. You'll have a great time at Disney (everyone gets to be a kid there). emoticon

Wear some good walking shoes and keep yourself hydrated. emoticon

(BTW - you're doing a great job!)

You're doing so great. Congratulations on those 3 pounds. Hopefully they will stay gone. Talking about hot, we are expecting 103 degrees on Friday and 105 degrees on Saturday & Sunday. Yuck!! Too, too hot for NC. I have never been to Disney. I wish you a wonderful vacation.

Here's a thought: Make today's weight your official one and then don't weight in on Saturday. emoticon I won't tell!

You gave in and weighed yourself? What! Does this mean that you're not going to undermine yourself on Friday? Is Friday a low salt day? Yes, this is how I obsess when I weigh myself before my weigh-in day. It's just so tempting. How could I not weigh myself on the day I realized that I needed to go to the next size DOWN?

You have a marvelous Thursday, too.

Enjoy Disney. In 1999 our Disney vacation was altered by Hurricaine Floyd so I know how those storms can affect things. I think that was the first time Disney ever closed the park.

Working toward my end goal!

Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Good morning spark peeps! I am continuing toward my first goal now that aunt Lucy has left and I have my normal energy back (for a couple weeks). :) I am so grateful that my walking partners at work have not fallen by the wayside and are continuing to plug along with me twice a day! Tried to recruit another coworker yesterday! This one just came back from a month out of the country. He opened the door to the conversation when he commented that I look like I have lost weight! Yay! Another confirmation of my success! I haven't got him hooked yet, but I am slowing reeling him in. lol. Wish me luck!

Have a great Tuesday my spark friends! :)

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day!

Monday, June 25, 2012

Today was another good day! Only three and a half more days till vacation! Yay! Can't wait to go hang out with baby girl #2! Piglet and I are heading over to Orlando to spend five days with her and her hubby. We haven't seen her since Christmas! Mommy is having withdrawals.

I am thoroughly sick of all this rain. Debby needs to move along now. The upside is that it has stayed below 90 degrees, the power has remained on and no more trees have fallen into or around the house! :)

I hope all my spark peeps had a great Monday! :)

I can't imagine going months without seeing one of my children. With my daughter turning 20 in Oct. and moving into her 1st apartment with room mates, for school, in August, I know that the visits home will probably become less frequent, than when she was living in the dorms, last year. Especially since the apartments won't be closing for the holidays, like the dorms do. But, we do want our children to become self sufficient. Fortunately, with my boy only 12, I know I have at least a few more years, before I start experiencing that empty nest syndrome.
In NC, today (Tues.) we are enjoying lovely weather in the 70's. Unfortunately, by Friday, it's supposed to be 98 degrees- and very humid. Unless Debbie heads our way, we're in for a hot, uncomfortable week. Hugs, Jackie

Glad you all are safe and hope it stays that way.... Debby is a pest at best...... although I agree below 90 is great... it was 100 here again today and heat index about 105....
My oldest is coming home from college in 2 days so I know about mommy withdrawal... *LOL* saw him mothers day, but it was just not enough time. Have wonderful time....
