Before you roll your eyes back and X out of this blog...read what it says, you may be very surprised! Just hear me out. The following is an article from 2006. Following this article is what we have personally found out about this food program.

Low-Fat Vegan Diet Rivals Oral Diabetes Medications in Federally Funded Study; Study Participants to Describe Their Experiences at Briefing with Researchers with George Washington University and University of Toronto
WASHINGTON—A low-fat vegan diet treats type 2 diabetes more effectively than a standard diabetes diet and may be more effective than single-agent therapy with oral diabetes drugs, according to a study in the August issue of Diabetes Care, a journal published by the American Diabetes Association. Study participants on the low-fat vegan diet showed dramatic improvement in four disease markers: blood sugar control, cholesterol reduction, weight control, and kidney function. The randomized controlled trial was conducted by doctors and dieticians with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), the George Washington University, and the University of Toronto with funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation.
The vegan diet represents a major departure from current diabetes diets, in that it placed no limits on calories, carbohydrates, or portions. “The diet appears remarkably effective, and all the side effects are good ones—especially weight loss and lower cholesterol,” says lead researcher Neal D. Barnard, M.D., PCRM president and adjunct associate professor of medicine at the George Washington University. “I hope this study will rekindle interest in using diet changes first, rather than prescription drugs.” Diabetes rates have climbed rapidly in recent years, and more than 20 million Americans now have the disease, which is linked to kidney failure, blindness, and cardiovascular disease."

I can attest to this as a true publication because I and my husband have followed “Dr Neal D Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes” and for the first time in years...yes I mean years my husbands blood sugars have been normal (91 to 101) every morning! This is amazing because we have been unable to keep his blood sugars down to normal more than just a couple days in a row. He’s even quit taking 1 of his diabetes pills already!
Also since we have been following Dr Neal D Barnards dietary advice for controlling inflammation, both mine and my husbands arthritis pain and stiffness is gone in the early mornings! I love it…no more slow standing back grabbing pain from arthritis in the mornings!
If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend Dr Neal D Barnard’s book “Foods that Fight Pain”. Its research from all over the world and not just one mans opinion; moreover, it really works and we’ve only been following his plan (strictly) since January 10th! Woohoo!

Wow, Dusty! I'm actually looking up this book on Amazon right now. I must admit, I haven't been intentionally doing anything to combat my diabetes except taking my metformin faithfully every night. You have sparked my interest with something I would like to look into. He has other books out, have you checked those out?

Law of the Garbage Truck

Subject: Law of the Garbage Truck

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were
driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a
parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his
brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of
the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really
friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined
your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver
taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes
they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.
Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

Christmas Cookie Rules...

1. If you eat a Christmas cookie fresh out of the oven, it has no calories because everyone knows that the first cookie is the test and thus calorie free.

2. If you drink a diet soda after eating your second cookie, it also has no calories because the diet soda cancels out the cookie calories.

3. If a friend comes over while you're making your Christmas cookies and needs to sample, you must sample with your friend. Because your friend's first cookie is calories free, rule #1 is yours also. It would be rude to let your friend sample alone and, being the friend that you are, that makes your cookie calorie free.

4. Any cookie calories consumed while walking around will fall to your feet and eventually fall off as you move. This is due to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.

5. Any calories consumed during the frosting of the Christmas cookies will be used up because it takes many calories to lick excess frosting from a knife without cutting your tongue.

6. Cookies colored red or green have very few calories. Red ones have three and green ones have five - one calorie for each letter. Make more red ones!

7. Cookies eaten while watching "Miracle on 34th Street" have no calories because they are part of the entertainment package and not part of one's personal fuel.

8. As always, cookie pieces contain no calories because the process of breaking causes calorie leakage.

9. Any cookies consumed from someone else's plate have no calories since the calories r ightfully belong to the other person and will cling to their plate. We all know how calories like to CLING!

10. Any cookies consumed while feeling stressed have no calories because cookies used for medicinal purposes NEVER have calories. It's a rule!

THE BAD NEWS IS...IT'S A LIE! Don't undo all your hard work losing those pounds by indulging in holiday cookies...it's not worth it and you'll hate yourself in the morning!

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror,
and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.'

So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.

'H-M-M,' she said, 'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.'

So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only
one hair on her head.
'Well,' she said, 'today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail.'
So she did, and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up,

looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
'YAY!' she exclaimed. 'I don't have to fix my hair today!'

Attitude is everything.

Be kinder than necessary,

for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,

Love generously,

Care deeply,

Speak kindly.......

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...

It's about learning to dance in the rain. That’s Attitude!

Life is what you make of it…
If your attitude is bad…to you, life is bad.
If your life is sarcastic…to you, life is cynical.
If your life is full of smiles…you bring happiness to others, you’re unselfish.
If you life is a daily challenge…your life is whatever you do with it…using your attitude!
So buck up! Your attitude is totally in your control and at your disposal 24/7
