I can't believe how incredibly fortunate and blessed I am to have found SparkPeople. Everthing I need to reach my goals of developing and maintaining a healthy life-style is right here.
Right after making the decision to loose weight, that was my initial motivator, I was referred to PT by my ortho doctor. Following my left hip replacement surgery four years ago, scar tissue developed because the incision was reopened twice to repair a problem. So, along with the scar tissue, which has attached to my upper thigh muscles, bursitis has returned to that hip. As if that wasn't enough, muscles around the hip and upper thigh were tight from lack of use.
Loosing weight, still a motivator when I found SparkPeopleand, became less of an issue for me. Gaining strength and flexibility became my primary goal. Of course I follow my nutrition plan and have enjoyed discovering new recipes that I share with my family. I faithfully do the strenght training at home and Cardio in the pool that was outlined for me based on the info I provided. Each week I've added more exercises that focus on my lower body with a little cardio (marching) thrown in. I even put the exercises I do at home into a circuit training format that I learned about in the Healthly Lifestyle section of the site.
So, okay. About three weeks ago I start getting to the pool early to do some water jogging, walking and lunges. Around that same time an article appeared in my email asking, "Are You Ready to Run? Join the Inaugural National Running Day June 3rd." Hmmmm, I thought to myself, I wonder if I can do my running in the pool on that day. After a little research and a little talk with my doctor, I made the decision to start training for it using the "Spark Your Way to 5K" system. I asked the lifeguard at the pool to be my coach using the AquaJogging method to condition my body. We've determined that 25 minutes of continuous running in the water using the aquajogging method is equal to 3.125 miles or 5K. I'm there, I'm ready to do my run on June 3rd.
Excited and thrilled about my weight-loss (20 lbs since Mar ), the loss of inches, little things like being able to walk up staris without taking baby steps, and my elevated spirits; I decided to join the Sweatsuit to Swimsuit Boot Camp that started last week. I'm nearning the end of the second week and feeling stronger and even more motivated than I ever imagined possible, two dress sizes smaller.
So, I get a call nearly two months after being referred, from PT telling me my prescribed program has been approved by my inurance. Yesterday I went in, informed the therapist what all I've been doing since my initial examination. She told me my range of motion had improved a great deal and that my recovery may not take as long as initially predicted (8 mos to a yr). The focus will be to continue working on stretching and strengthening my hip and upper thigh muscles, except her exercises are very intense.
I'm much more physical than I've ever been in my life and lovin' it. I'm running as fast as I can to keep up with myself!

"What makes you laugh" was the question of the day in one of my team's forums. Ironically I had just received an email, you know the ones, that have silly themes. Well, this one had dancin' little kittens telling me to do some dancin' -
I found myself not only smiling but laughing out loud. I put some music on to warm up for my Boot Camp Workout and started dancing. I then went to the pool for water aerobics where there was even more music and I just kept right on dancing, smiling, and laughing. You would have thought I brought in $1000.00 bills for everybody.
There's a notion in theatre that there are two things we do not do on stage: Yawn and clear the throat because both are contagious. Well, I can now add two more: Dancin' and laughing.

I was excited to see how much stronger I was doing the Day 9 exsercise, which is the same as the Week 1, Day 2 lower-body workout. My upper thigh muscles are looser and stronger (if that makes any sense). Seeing results motivates me to continue on. So, I immediately followed up with the challenge workout, the 6-minute Hips, Glutes, & Thighs Workout; and WHOA!!! those squats let me know there is still a lot more work to do. Then the lunges did the trick, sweat started pouring and the workout became a major challenge, a good challenge though.
Now that I've done them both I FEEL GREAT!!! Even though my upper thigh and hip muscles will be feeling the workout for a few, I hope to work out some of the kinks in the water for my cardio.

Okay, so I was up late last night enjoying my immediate and extended family with a Mother's Day dinner at TGIF. I did pretty good and stayed within my nutrition ranges. However, the night was very emotional for me and so was the morning when I talked on the phone with my sister in Seattle, WA (I'm in San Bernardino, CA).
I was determined to do the workout for today, the 10-minute Cardio Kickboxing Workout, before going to church this morning. I struggled through it for the first 5 minutes. I'm so glad I finished the workout because after the jumping jacks, about half way through, I began to have more energy and the sweat started pouring off of me.
The rest of my day has gone well and I must say that's pretty awsome because after getting off the phone with my sister I was contemplating staying home from church. By struggling through the workout I gave myself the opprotunity to receive Blessings all around: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Spiritual.
I really want to continue to be this committed throughout the boot camp, because if I do I see the benefits being overwhelmingly wonderful.
