Holidays and the importance of preparation.

Saturday, December 26, 2009

I can't stress enough the importance of being prepared for every curveball so that you can remain in control of what you eat. That took a major back seat this week when I was at my sister's and brother in law's house for the holidays.

1. They have NO nutritional food in the house at all. And they have a baby, which makes this only more sad.

2. They don't cook at home. They don't even have any food to cook in the house. They've been living on cookies and candy and crackers the entire time i've been here. Literally they have no food in the fridge. They have doritos in the cabinets and about 3 dozen holiday cookies.

3. My subtle mentions that we should go food shopping fall on deaf ears. We've eaten out every meal, which is only one meal a day here!

4. They give my nephew cookies for breakfast! he's only 15 months old. I find this absolutely disgusting and makes me want to slap them both. They are both very sensitive, so I just need to keep my mouth shut about it, but it breaks my heart and makes me furious.

It's literally been hell on my diet being here. As much as I love seeing them, I think it may be a while before i get back here. It's too difficult to maintain my daily routine here, and that makes it very stressful for me.

I am so excited and cannot wait for Monday when I leave here to go to MA to meet up with my boifriend and his family. I will be able to get back into my routine there, and I've already expressed to him how much I need to get to the grocery store to get some vegetables and other healthy foods.

So, I won't be weighing in until the second week of January. I am pissed about this, and mad at myself for getting in this situation. It is what it is and I just need to make the best of it this weekend, but I won't find myself in this predicament again.

It breaks my heart to picture a 15 month old eating cookies for breakfast :( Sorry you had virtually no healthy food options available to you. Hopefully the rest of your holiday break included some real food!

ack, that's gotta be so hard to be around.

i hosted xmas eve dinner at my house and REALLY tried to consider the likes and dislikes of my in laws, but basically they won't even TRY any of the vegetable dishes. only meat and potatoes and mac 'n' cheese. it was awkward, sad, and frustrating. and of course the kids pay close attention to how their parents react to new/healthy foods so they are learning not to want to eat veggies either!

Ugh, it is hard to see other people making poor health choices--especially when you love them, and want them to take care of themselves!! I struggle a lot with this with my girlfriend, trying not to be a nag, but at the same time trying to subtly move her to make healthier decisions.

I definitely had much the same experience over the holidays with my family and gf's family. But I'm glad that it's all over now, and I can go back to eating/exercising on a regular basis. :-)

The holidays are only two weeks out of the entire year, even if you eat everything in sight and don't exercise, you can't ruin the months of amazing progress that you've made!

Oh my gosh, what a way to live! I can't imagine spending the money to go out every day when I can make such delicious food at home!! I hope somebody got them cook books and grocery store gift cards for Christmas, hahaha.

The nice thing is, it's going to feel GREAT for you to get back on track, so at least it won't be hard to go back to normal.

Wow, that's a lot to cope with. I'd have flown off the handle at them - cookies for breakfast?!? For a BABY? They shouldn't be eating any processed food at all, at that age! I hope you feel much better to be back on track. Maybe the deprivation of healthiness will make you enjoy being healthy even more!

trying to avoid the mall by creeping around lingerie land....

Monday, December 21, 2009

I posted a few weeks ago about going on a bra hunt, as I have shrunk a LOT in that area. I went to a fancy boutique and got sized and pretended I was going to spend $90 on a bra, psych!!! I might have wasted the poor lady's time, but she sized me, which was the whole point, that and trying on bras to hunt for on ebay immediately. Well, this bra that I found does not seem to exist outside of their store. So i went to macy's to find a bra yesterday. I found one, and it fits perfectly, is a 34D, compared to the 38E that i was before! AND was only $27 on clearance.

I was so excited to browse the lingerie area, I was in there for over an hour, and I HATE malls, christmas music, and other shoppers, a LOT. I found such cute stuff, that's not too expensive, and I can't wait for the holidays to be over and to reach my goal weight AND to reward myself, and my boifriend, with some CUTE lingerie!

Jezebel puts out some cute, retro style but pretty good quality and cheaper than the others I saw. I can't wait to fill up my dresser with fun prancy things!

size 6????!!!!

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Today I caught up on all my holiday shopping and i'd been obsessing about holiday pictures and having a good outfit for christmas, because I am a femme just like that! =)
I was going to hit up Macy's or Ann Taylor, but found myself in Ross (which is a discount store just like Marshalls) and found this awesome purple dress in size 8. I run to the fitting room, pushing and shoving all the way through the masses of meandering shoppers. I had boots, skinny jeans, and three layers to take off, so I got into the dress and it was too big. It is a knit and a bit stretch, but definitely too big. And not that cheap either. So i put back on ALL my clothes, scarf jacket ect and hurl myself back into the throng of shoppers to hunt for a size 6, thinking of course they won't have one, and at first they didn't! I decided to keep looking for a dress and hidden INSIDE another dress, so someone was clearly trying to hide the dress, was the size 6!!!! i couldn't believe it, I ran to try it on again, waited 30 mins for a fitting room, again, and off with all the clothes. In the end, it was so worth it because this calvin klein dress was 75% off! even cheaper at checkout than the tag said! So.... drumroll pleasee.... size 6!

FYI- this was me a year and a half ago in xl, 16+

Two Week Challenge; Friday results

Saturday, December 19, 2009

I took the batteries out of my scale; so no more weighing in until the end of the year.
I made a GIANT batch of eggplant rolatini on Thursday and have been eating that for most of my meals. It's really pretty good on the carb front, but it has a lot of salt, so I am feeling pretty bloated and water weighty.
I STILL have those damn chocolate cookies in the house. I am going to give them to my neighbors I think, they are right across the hall and british, so they probably eat stuff like that, right?!
I FINALLY made it to the gym last night and kicked A$$ on the elliptical. I had fun, sweated it out, and the 45 mins flew by. I am hoping to get another session in today, but I have holiday shopping and SO many errands to do, so we'll see...

As far as yesterday, here's how I did on my challenge!
Friday!!!!
Breakfast
1 slice julian's bread (13 g fiber-1 net carb)
1 slice of TJ black forest ham
1 large egg fried
1 slice of swiss cheese
large iced coffe w 5 shots of sf vanilla 3 tbs half and half

Lunch
4 eggplant rollatinis
1 cup spinach

Snack
1 thin mint cookie about 5 g carbs (eeks!)
1 low carb smoothie w/ whey protein from gym

Dinner
4 eggplant rollatinis
celery and cheddar pub cheese

Workout
740 cals; 45 mins on elliptical

bad girl treat!
3 thin mint cookies
