The Black Hole

Just a quick entry from me. I am in complete Sparkpeople withdrawal.

I returned back to work full time this past Monday. For two days I have been in the black hole of work in the hours of 8-5 pm. We have been completely slammed. Every moment is consumed by catching up with work, planning work, work, and follow up work. The ONLY time I am not doing one of the previously mentioned is when I'm pumping. Which thankfully has not been interfered with. I am already exhausted, overworked, and stressed and it has only been two days!

So far, our planned schedule has worked and we're able to have some family time together in between our crazy schedules. I even opportunities to get a walk or a workout in with the Baby Bjorn. I've been able to bring my lunch and snacks everyday to work and track my calories using the Sparkpeople App on my Blackberry. However, I have missed the luxurious time I used to be able to spend perusing through articles on Sparkpeople and finding fun ways to rack up points. It kept me motivated and interested.

My 34th birthday was yesterday and when I have time, I have some reflections I'd like to share on what I've learned and what my long term goals are. This was the happiest birthday I can remember and not just because of our new addition....but that is for another blog.

I miss my Sparkbuddies! Send me little messages if you get a chance! I may be in a staff meeting about to reach for a mini twix or Krispy Kreme. You're message will remind me there is a whole group of people that wants me to stay skinny!!

Will be a challenging weekend...

I'm feeling really good this week! I truly enjoyed my last two days of maternity leave with my little girl before I return to work full time on Monday. I'm trying to keep positive and instead of being sad that I am going back to work, I am grateful for the time that I had. I am also grateful that my husband will be home with her. It is a comfort level that I cannot even describe.

I felt like a rock star this week with my program. Eating in my range, exercising regularly, and just overall feeling great! However, there are quite a few events this weekend that will make tracking food difficult: A night out with hubby tonight, big cookout tomorrow, and dinner with family on Monday. I am reminding myself:

~It is OK to go over a little from time to time (especially on my birthday!)
~I will still make healthy decisions and have a good time
~I will not "ruin" these happy events by stressing myself about what I can't eat (there are no "bad" foods) or thinking of how many calories something has once I've made a decision to eat it

My sweet hubby has planned a wonderful night for us tonight and I plan to enjoy our time together!

I will keep you posted on how I do :)

Also, I'm still wearing the pedometer and have STILL not broken 10,000 steps! This will continue to be a challenge due to my cubicle job. I'm looking for opportunities to get more steps, but it will likely just have to be by extending my workout walks.

    I envy your positive thinking!! I go back to work next week and all I can do is tear up anytime I say the W word. I need your strength! Keep it up girl!

    Good thoughts, good for you! I've struggled with a desk job for the past 13 years and, like you, wear a pedometer to make sure I'm getting my steps. Here are some hints that may help you. I get up from my chair every hour and walk around the office or go outside and walk around the parking lot. If you don't have the freedom to do that, at least stand up when you're on the phone and step in place. (If anyone asks, you're shaking out your leg muscles!) Take 20 minutes in the evening and dance with your baby. She'll love it and you'll benefit from the extra steps. My personal favorite is to park in some other parking lot in the morning -- two buildings over -- and walk to my building. Again, if you can't do this, pick the parking space farthest away from the door and park there. You probably won't have a lot of competition for that spot. Good luck!!

Back to the grind, struggling to find time

After a great Memorial Day weekend visiting family, we are trying to learn our new routine of work, baby, and family time. I did just OK on vacation, but was able to walk 2 out of the 3 mornings we were there. DD did so great in the car for her first road trip! She was hamming it up for her grandparents, too.

I'm learning that I have very little time to actually spend with my DD and DH since he is working nights now. Right now until things get more settled, the most consistent exercise I can count on will be an evening walk with the Baby Bjorn. Not exactly a hard core workout, but at least I'm moving.

    You have the right attitude! You are moving and baby is learning that moving outside is fun and something you do on a consistant basis. Great job!!

Sorry DH is on nights, mine is too. I'm still on mat leave but when I go back in 2 weeks I'll never get to see him either. Its really tough but I hope you guys adjust well and cherish the time ya'll do have together. :) I know we sure do! emoticon

Forgot a Tip...

I forgot a great tip I found...

In the "track more nutrients" feature I added saturated fats. It has really been an eye opener of some of the foods I eat regularly that push my saturated fats over the recommended amount.

There is a whole list of things you can track. I currently have calcium, fiber, Vitamin C, and saturated fat in addition to the "regular" nutrients that SP tracks.

    I also track saturated fats as well as a bunch of other nutrients. It's such a great feature in the tracker.

Morning Walk

Just a quick note. Enjoying time with the in-laws. They haven't seen DD since she starting smiling and she is being a real ham! (so cute!)

Tracking food will be hard this weekend, but I will try. (MIL is an excellent cook!) I did kick my tail kicked with a morning walk. DH watched our daughter so I could really book it. In laws live in a hilly neighborhood and my legs were burning when I was done. Felt GREAT!

At least I got a little cardio in before the big cookout this afternoon!

Please thank someone who served in our armed forces this weekend!
