5% Winter Challenge

Monday, January 13, 2014

I have been at my maintenance weight for about 5 years. But I have now added some unwanted pounds due to a hurt foot that limits my exercising, plus the holidays. BTW, I am seeing at doctor at the end of the month for my foot. I procrastinated hoping it would remedy itself but after 5 months, I finally broke down and made an appt.

I have updated my SP's BMI, calories intake/expenditure, and weight goal. I am ready to get back to PAYING ATTENTION!!

How am I going to lose the weight?
Simple - Count calories and commit to burn 800 calories a week.

My exercise plan?
With my foot, I have a low goal to burn 800 calories a week. So, the right food will be 80% of the game. I can walk but not walk briskly. I can do the elliptical but doing the same exercise for 8 weeks won't be productive. I will just need to wear my heart rate monitor and go the distance until I hit the 800.

emoticon on the five years in maintenance! That is so awesome!

And emoticon with losing those extra pounds! It must be hard to have to deal with an injury and for so long. I put off going to the dr too so good on you for finally going! Hopefully, things will start getting better now! Hang in there!

SP's 3 Elements of an Exercise Program for Maintenance

Tuesday, December 24, 2013

1) At least 30 minutes per day of moderate intensity cardio, most days of the week. Lower intensity cardio (55%-65% of your maximum heart rate) is adequate to preserve your fitness level. Aim for higher intensity cardio (70%-85% of your maximum heart rate) for at least three of your cardio sessions per week. This helps your body use more energy (and especially fat) even when you’re not exercising, which will aid you in maintaining your new weight. Read our reference guides for Aerobic Exercise and Exercise Intensity to learn more.

2)At least two strength training sessions per muscle (or muscle group) each week. Building and maintaining your lean (muscle) mass will keep your metabolism up so that you’re more likely to burn calories instead of storing them as fat. Many people who stop strength training after losing weight end up regaining fat even though the number on the scale doesn’t go up right away. By the time it does start going up, they’ve already lost quite a bit of the muscle. You don’t need to be a bodybuilder to keep your body composition where it needs to be for weight maintenance—but you do need be regularly challenging your muscles to do a little more than they are used to handling. For more ideas and information read our Reference Guide to Strength Training or check out our Workout Generator.

3) As much extra “lifestyle activity” as you can. This is a case where every little bit helps. In any given day, we usually spend most of our time doing things (like sitting) that don’t require a lot of extra energy expenditure. Therefore, every little bit of activity you do throughout the day can make a big difference—often the difference between keeping those pounds off or letting them creep back on so slowly you hardly notice them.

I am trying to figure out what is right for me for maintenance. Trouble is--I sort of hate the cardio part! LOL!! But thank you--this is concise and just what I needed to remember.

We could all use these words of encouragement now and then.

Everyone will go through some hard times at some point. Life isn't easy.

Just something to think about... did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive?

Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated?

Did you know the ones who take care of others all the time are usually the ones who need it the most?

Did you know the 3 hardest things to say are I love you, I'm sorry, and Help me.

Sometimes just because a person looks happy, you have to look past their smile and see how much pain they may be in.

To all my friends who are going through some issues right now-- let's start an intention avalanche. We all need positive intentions right now. If I don't see your name, I'll understand.

May I ask my friends wherever you might be, to kindly copy and paste this status for one hour to give a moment of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares.

Do it for all of us, for nobody is immune.
